Today, May 10, 2022, launches in TBC Classic the Shattered Sun Offensive and with it the last patch of the expansion. A short time later, players will be able to embark on the final raid, Sunwell Plateau. When this is finished, many will have “played through” the new edition of WoW: The Burning Crusade.
TBC Classic launched in June 2021, just under a year later the content is over in a sense. That may not seem all that unusual at first. But with a view to the further WoW Classic plans, which are even already being forged for Cataclysm Classic, developers will not only have to look at when or if to drop an expansion, but also make sure that Classic WoW versions don’t eventually catch up with the retail version.

WoW WotLK Classic: Beta update for dungeon emblems, DK start and bugs
10, 11 or 12 years?
WoW expansions usually run for a good two years, Classic versions seem to run for only one year. If WotLK as announced still in the year 2022 is released, the Classic versions are only five expansions behind the current WoW version. In less than 15 years the Classic versions would have caught up. And in the soon-to-be 20-year history of WoW. (buy now ) this is not unrealistic.
With era servers, they apparently don’t want to drag out the Classic content that much, at least they’re ruled out for TBC for now. Maybe that’s why they don’t necessarily want to skip rather unpopular addons like Cataclysm, because the gap between the Classic and the retail versions would then melt even faster.
Is Classic content being released too quickly?
Already in the re-release of vanilla WoW, it was wisely decided to phase. Because releasing content at the normal pace would have simply caused too many players to bail out after a while. In the championship – Season , the waiting times between raids were even shortened once again.
This didn’t really bother anyone, at least there wasn’t a huge outcry. In fact, it was more the players’ desire to get Classic content out faster. Even in TBC, there is only slight criticism that the Sunwell Plateau is coming a bit earlier than expected. Most players seem ready for new content.
Even though some joke about “getting into Classic Shadowlands ;-)”, this scenario is not that far away anymore. Do you play WoW Classic and do you think the content is “rushed”? Which Classic version would you go all the way with? We are looking forward to your opinion in the comments.
