Do you know that? You could swear that Darth Vader said, “Luke, I am your father.” His line was, “No, I’m your father.” That’s what we call the Mandela effect. We want to apply that to WoW. Do you have any memories of moments from 15 years ago that didn’t even happen in WoW Classic? Write us in the comments!
WoW (buy it now) Classic is now 15 years old, so the Mandela Effect is often noticeable in conversations with many vanilla veterans. The Mandela Effect describes an event that a large group of people collectively misremembers. This phenomenon was named after Nelson Mandela, who died of pneumonia in 2013. However, in many accounts, people swear that Mandela died in prison back in the 1980s. So their memory has played a trick on them.
That’s exactly the kind of thought experiment we want to do with you. What are your memories of Classic that later turned out to be false? Let’s get started, then.

I first noticed the Classic Mandela effect when I started playing on a private server a few years ago. As a Druid, I noticed that I didn’t really have any resurrection in my spellbook. Even though I was playing Druid at level 60 at the time. Even though I was playing Druid at level 60 at the time, I could have sworn I had a real resurrection in the spellbook besides my combat resurrection.

Mhm, well I could have sworn I naked my victims in duels in Classic and wet them with a level 1 dagger. HA – THAT WAS TOO!
Ok, now let’s get serious:
Do you guys still remember the introduction of the Arathi Basin in WoW: Classic? Comparatively late, namely with patch 1.7 in September 2005. And although you can read about it everywhere on the internet, the date just doesn’t fit my personal feeling. Maybe it’s because I only leveled the last levels of my rogue in Arathi Basin, but I don’t remember how long it took me to reach level 50+ back then. I created my first character (a warrior) in the spring of 2005. From today’s perspective, it’s actually unimaginable that it actually takes months to reach the endgame of an online role-playing game…”

I always like to think back to the classic times when I explored a fantastic world with my adventurous dwarf hunter. But when I tell friends about it, they can’t share my enthusiasm. They’ll tell me, “What Dwarf Hunter?”, “You weren’t playing WoW back then”, and “You were playing Guild Wars instead during WoW Classic.” huh That damn Mandela effect…. (Editor’s note: kidding…)
What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
