WoW Cataclysm Classic to be announced

The April 19, 2022 will be celebrated by fans of the online role-playing game World of is longed for like no other date this year. Because we will finally find out where the WoW journey will go in the . What is coming with WoW Patch 10.0? Will the faction boundaries be softened even further, after Patch 9.2.5 then already cross-faction group play has brought? Can we expect a story about dragons? About old gods?

While the future of WoW’s live servers is uncertain, and in recent weeks and months countless rumors sprouted from the ground, the way seems set for the Classic servers of WoW. Very likely, there will be a – Season of the championship for The Burning Crusade Classic. And then, of course, soon Wrath of the Lich King Classic … right? Or will there? An insider contacted us in advance via Discord and revealed something that sounds absolutely unlikely.

The Skip

Supposedly Blizzard’s master plan is to skip Wrath of the Lich King Classic and go straight to WoW (buy now ) Cataclysm Classic to go over. WTF? Why?

As we had reported, the people from Blizzard just recently sent a survey to selected players. The topic: How likely is it that you would play Wrath of the Lich King Classic? In addition, the survey also asked whether you played Wrath of the Lich King in the original, how likely you would be to play WoW and Classic again if it weren’t for the faction imbalance on the servers, and whether respondents would still play Burning Crusade Classic. Surveys like this to blatantly random players have been Blizzard’s go-to tactic in recent years to get a general sense of opinion.

WoW WotLK Classic is cancelled?!

The Thing: WoW Burning Crusade Classic is slowly but surely coming to an end. Although Zul’Aman has just been brought to the servers. But after that only Quel’Danas and the Sunwell Plateau will come. Then Burning Crusade is over, and for the fans of the Classic experience it was obvious that WotLK Classic will come. It’s a bit strange that a survey about the possible WotLK gameplay and the general desire for such a Classic version comes so … late?

We admittedly can’t quote our informant verbatim, but he, let’s call him Jesais Pas, said that the feedback on the survey was “underwhelming”. So WotLK would still be an important addition to the WoW cosmos, but the survey seems to have landed with the wrong players. There would be almost no support at all and no interest in playing WotLK in a Classic version – something that, quite honestly, we absolutely cannot imagine. And so the plan is supposedly to skip WotLK and move on to Cataclysm.

According to Hazzikostas, every area of WoW: Dragonflight should be able to keep up with Zereth Mortis in terms of endgame – our editor is more than skeptical.

WoW: DpS and healers are overrated! 5 Tanks create +25 Tazavesh InTime!

Why would you still pack healers and DpS when in WoW you can even do Mythic Plus dungeons at level 25 in tank-only groups?

LoL, Cataclysm Classic of all things?

Ever since it was announced that there are not only , but also retro versions of the expansions, we’ve been of the opinion that BC Classic and WotLK Classic make perfect sense, albeit a bit less than WoW Classic itself. But Cataclysm Classic? Isn’t the point behind the Classic servers the experience of WoW BEFORE the Cataclysm changes?

If the folks at Blizzard were really going to go with the plan of the WotLK skip, then why also jump to one of the most unpopular expansions that will once again throw the world of Azeroth into chaos and destroy half of what Classic fans just got back with WoW Classic? Why, if you’re going to skip expansions in the Classic cycle, not skip straight to Mists of Pandaria?

Cataclysm brought Goblins and Worgen into the game, but also blatantly turned Azeroth upside down.

“The hardcore classic fans can play on the stop servers, after all”, Jesai’s Pas said, mutatis mutandis. “Besides, the Dragon expansion, with its Azeroth reordering of WoW, does play into the theme of WoW’s future, after all. Not without reason it’s in Hearthstone is going into Naga areas like Vashj’ir..”

How? What? Does this mean that we can expect Cataclysm 2.0 on the live servers with WoW Patch 10.0? We hope that the developers of WoW think again very carefully! Whereby … maybe they got over the Cataclysm disappointment (Cataclysm wasn’t really bad, just content-poor in the endgame) and thought about a meaningful Azeroth reboot.

The only question is whether this really makes it necessary to skip WotLK Classic. We’re curious to see what will happen now on April 19, 2022. Speaking of which: We put together the graphic above ourselves, because no, of course there is no official footage of such a hair-raising rumor! A hair-raising rumor we made up ourselves, of course, for April 1, 2022, in case you hadn’t thought of it yet.
