With the pre-patch of WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic, Blizzard’s revamped dungeon finder has also arrived in the classic world of Azeroth. Guess how well the “bulletin board” style group search goes down with many players?!
Already shortly after the Announcement of WoW: Wrath of the Lich King Classic on April 19, 2022, it was clear: The topic of dungeon finders is polarizing. While one camp congratulates the Blizzard decision makers for wanting to completely dispense with the automated Crossrealm Dungeon Finder from Patch 3.3, other Wrath fans hate the deletion. In fact, for many players, the tool is so essential to their personal gaming experience that they would completely forgo WotLK Classic without the Dungeon Finder.
Blizzard’s solution is live!
Since then, the Blizzard developers have made it clear time and time again that they will want to continue to make the anti-dungeon finder camp happy. Their solution to the various problems around group search in TBC Classic: a rework of the old group search system without crossserver or automatic functions. We had already presented the “gem” to you.
With the pre-patch, the “new” group search went online for the first time on the Classic live servers on August 31, 2022, and many players took the opportunity to try out the tool in practice. After all, it is supposed to help you find other players for certain content and get the spam out of the chat channels by the way.
The reality, however, doesn’t look so rosy. Here are just a few of the problems with the new dungeon finder that are causing bad vibes (via Reddit):
- Chat spam is still present, but has now expanded to other channels such as trade and world defense (because the LFG channel has been restricted). As a result, it is now even harder than before to find groups and communicate with players.
- The new dungeon finder is way too cumbersome. It takes three or four clicks to get a query in the system, and then you have to constantly update the tool.
- Since everyone is free to choose their role, players keep signing up as tanks, only to pretend they don’t know about it. Without a real tank, the groups can then usually dissolve again.
- Often enough, players don’t even notice that, for example, their rogue has been marked as a healer or their healing paladin as a tank, as a default setting after logging in for the first time.
- Time and time again, players seek a specific role for an otherwise ready-made party, but characters keep coming forward wanting to take on other roles simply because the system allows it. Some even sign up again and again – each time accompanied by an alert sound. So anyone who wants to build a group will need strong nerves.
- The tool is already being used for troll attempts and griefing.
- In addition, there are bugs, for example that the UI layout can change when you log in to the tool with a certain role – which can be problematic especially for healers.
In summary, the critics state that the LFG Bulletin Board as well as the Mythic Plus group search from Retail work much better. If the developers had not restricted the LFG channel, most players would simply ignore the tool. What is your opinion on the tool?
