Vayne is the champ with the highest single-target DPS in the game. Due to her True Damage, not even tanks can defend against the ADC and she is also super mobile due to her Tumble. Does Vayne have a weak point at all? Yep: Early Game and AOE Damage! Vayne is the only champ in League of Legends that doesn’t have a single AOE spell, which makes teamfights a bit tricky and positioning and focus a lot more difficult. We’ll show you how to get through the bad Vayne Early and turn her into a 1v9 Hyper Carry!

Vayne Guide: Runes and Item builds

Runes

On Vayne there is only one keystone for your runes and that is Press the Attack in the Precision Tree! Press the Attack triggers at the exact same time as the Passive on your W. This gives you the highest Single Target Damage you can get with Vayne due to the Bonus Damage. After that, you can go for Triumph or Overheal. As a Legend, I recommend Alacrity for extra Attack Speed, which scales incredibly well on Vayne. With Vayne, you’re a tank shredder, so the last thing you definitely want to bring is Cut Down to do even more damage on targets with more life!

In Second Tree, go for Domination. Taste of Blood and Ravenous Hunter for more self-healing are the best choices here.

Items

For items, the best mythic on Vayne is Immortal Shieldbow. It has all the stats Vayne needs, the passive gives her even more sustain with the shield to survive long in team fights and the Mythic Passive gives her even more damage and life. Guinsoo’s Rageblade is an absolute key item on Vayne, allowing her to build stacks in fights and become even stronger. Wit’s End is not only a good choice when the enemies are very AP heavy, but also fits perfectly with Vayne due to its passives and the extra magic damage.

Kraken Slayer is a playable option for you but is currently no longer meta on Vayne (patch 11.18).

Vayne Guide: Early Game

With Vayne you have your weakest phase here! Vayne has a very short range, her damage is rather meh without the necessary scaling and as already mentioned you have no AOE damage. Your goal is to farm as much as you can and wait for your first items. Vayne has big problems with poke on the lane and champs like Caitlyn use their short-range shamelessly. Therefore, use your Q-Spell mainly for dodging and escaping and never for poking! Once you’re too far ahead, you’ll have no escape and be easy prey for your opponent.

Vayne’s whole power is in her W. When you’re fighting, always stay focused on a champ so you can properly utilize the stack and True Damage. This is why Attack Speed is so important to her because it allows her to proc her W Passive that much more often. Your goal in the early game is to play the lane balanced because then you are already ahead in the mid-game!

Vayne Guide: Mid Game

Here you can slowly see why Vayne is one of the best Hyper Carry Champs in the game. If you already have Immortal Shieldbow and Guinsoo’s Rageblade here, you are already an absolute powerhouse! The advantage Vayne has over other ADC’s is that enemy armor doesn’t matter to her. While other Carries have to buy Lord Dominik’s Regards, Vayne can invest her gold in even more Attack Speed and will still do more damage to 400 Armor Malphite than a Jinx. Use your True Damage, do as many Auto Attacks as possible, and try to peel yourself with the Stun on the E and your Invisibility through the Ult.

The only weakness Vayne has, like every carry in the mid and late game, is that she is a very squishy target. That’s why Immortal Shieldbow is currently so efficient and gives you enough sustain to survive a Zed Ult. Of course, Vayne works best with tanky CC supports like Nautilus and Leona. Use these duos to second whole team fights to carrien. But a Yuumi-Vayne bot lane can also be very toxic to opponents.

Vayne Guide: Late Game

The strongest phase with Vayne! It sometimes feels like an Auto Attack Simulator, because that’s all you really do. For the mid-lane, about 3 autos are enough for the top layer it might be 6 sometimes… You just have to activate your Ult and with Q and your Invisibility dodge all spells that could one-shot you. If no one can get to you and you get some peel, you can just run down the enemy team.

But here, above all, positioning is required again. Just don’t allow the opponent to get to you and you can carrien the game all alone 1v9. GA is also recommended as the last item here, because if you do get picked up, you have another chance to take out all the opponents. Your goal here is: Make as many Auto Attacks as possible, don’t get caught, peel yourself and survive as long as possible!

If you want to play Vayne really well, you really need to learn how to kite enemies. Then you’ll take hyper carry to a whole other level!

Vayne Guide: Good and Bad Matchups

Vayne actually has exclusively bad matchups on her lane. This is mainly due to her weakness in early and her short range as ADC. Vayne’s hardest matchups on the bot lane are Caitlyn, Jhin and especially Xayah, who can escape any Engage with her Ult.
