Some players were banned during the night today. According to information from Activision, RICOCHET should be active in Asia first. Did Activision here a targeted misinformation exposed to be able to eliminate as many cheaters and hackers as possible right on day 1.
According to ModernWarzone he can confirm that a new ban wave has reached us in Call of Duty and Warzone:
“Well Im a weapon grandmaster. RIP 2+ years of grind and 2700$ spent. Ranked top 1 for Asia for damage since start of Cold War and only used VPN and plunder exploit. I didnt even update my game yet and received a ban. I got shot ton of gamplay lmfao. Avtivision is just Nuts.”
Such comments confirm that Activision does not accept VPN and is taking action against it.
Additionally, it seems that RICOCHET has already been loaded onto players’ computers with the update. Zesty has published a post on Twitter where he claims to have found the alleged file, which has a size of 2.32 MB and is a .sys file.
On Facebook we also received messages that bans have been carried out and users do not know exactly why they were banned.
For this reason, we explain again how RICOCHET works and what can lead to bans.
RICOCHET is a system that works in several ways. Firstly, the anti-cheat is located on the servers, and secondly, it is located on the users’ devices via PC kernel drivers. But it also uses machine learning to help detect suspicious behavior.
The driver is started immediately when the game is launched and the RICOCHET logo should be part of the loading screen. It then monitors all software, processes and applications running in the background during the game.
Activision announced that the CORE DRIVER will only be active in the Asia-Pacific region. Which does not mean that the server-side system is not active yet!
What actually is a kernel driver?
Windows is basically built in several levels that programs and drivers can access. The deeper the level, the more access rights they have to the system. A kernel driver may access the deepest level 0, but must be programmed bombproof for it, since even the smallest malfunction brings the entire system to the crash. In addition, it is of course also a question of security which driver is allowed to penetrate so deeply into the operating system.
The problem is that many cheat programs also gain extensive access to a PC and then have more rights than an anti-cheat, which can only access higher levels. Therefore, such defense systems often rely on kernel drivers.
Reasons that can lead to a ban:
The affected players on Facebook have mentioned that you play on a console, namely PS5. The RICOCHET Anti Cheat is not active on consoles. However, it was also mentioned that the said player had logged into a friend’s computer and played 1.2 rounds there. If this friend now uses suspicious software or even plays via VPN, it is possible that accounts that have gambled on this hardware will also be banned. As we know, Activision also carries out hardware bans.
Any software that affects the game, whether it’s cheat programs or VPN’s, will be detected by the cheat system and the affected player will be banned directly.
The targeted exploitation of glitches also gives the player an advantage is not allowed according to the usage rules. Here, too, players will be banned without any ifs and buts.
Simply put, you risk a ban for anything that does not correspond to a natural gameplay or deliberately manipulates the gameplay.
What happens if RICOCHET thinks you are a cheater?
If the Anti Cheat System marks you as a cheater, it is not yet clear what the consequences will be. Warzone has banned accounts in the past that have been associated with cheating. A Q&A between Content Creatorn and Activision revealed that RICOCHET creates matchmaking pools that separate “trusted” and “untrusted” accounts. This could mean that those have suspicious files but are not officially confirmed cheaters. This means that “trusted” players will no longer be able to join the same lobby with “untrusted” players. Activision did not leak any further info.
What about CronusMax, -Zen & XIM adapters?
Speaking to Youtuber JackFrags, the team at RICOCHET let slip that the server-side technology does have the ability to recognize these devices as well as the scripts. This can be implemented through the machine learning of the system. However, this requires the cooperation of Sony and Microsoft. Thus, it remains to be seen when the anticheat will recognize and punish these systems.
