Heroes (Dota 2)

The heroines and heroes (original: “Heroes”) are the primary playable entities in DotA and Dota 2. In a game, each player takes control of one of the 112 playable heroines and heroes. Each hero and heroine is a character with different attributes, abilities and roles. Each heroine and hero can also be categorized by the default attacks, which happen either in melee or ranged attacks.

Valve plans to develop their own heroines and heroes for Dota 2 after the release of the classic heroines and heroes from DotA Allstars, as Erik Johnson previously announced in a 2014 interview. After the release of Arc Warden in December 2015 and that of Underlord in August 2016, the first hero developed exclusively for Dota 2, Monkey King, appeared in winter 2016, although it was at least based on concepts from classic DotA and appeared there as an event boss opponent. The Dueling Fates update announced in August 2017 confirmed the release of two completely redesigned heroes.

Riki: “I speak softly, but carry a sharp knife.”

Riki, the Stealth Assassin Riki Ikon.png (Shadow Assassin), is an agility hero from DotA and Dota 2. He is a Radiant melee unit whose strength lies mainly in stealth. In the game, he can take on the role of a Carry and Escaper. Riki’s strength lies in ambush and his high agility: he can target enemy heroes out of nowhere and eliminate them quickly. In direct combat, however, he is often outmatched. Smoke Screen lets Riki throw a smoke bomb that slows enemies down, makes their attacks miss, and silences them. Blink Strike lets Riki teleport a short distance behind a unit, which he deals additional damage to if it is enemy. His passive ability Backstab allows Riki to deal a large damage bonus against any unit he attacks from behind. The damage done is based on Riki’s agility. Combining these three abilities, Riki can kill enemy heroes in a matter of seconds. Riki’s Ultimate Permanent Invisibility grants him permanent invisibility, but it is interrupted when he attacks. In addition, it is not immune to True Sight. The transitions from visibility to invisibility are reduced with each level of Riki’s Ultimate. Aghanim’s Scepter does not buff the Ultimate.

Riki stalks the battlefield, unseen by the enemy. He chooses his moment carefully and bursts forth in a puff of silencing smoke, stabbing at his foes before they even know he’s there.

“Riki was born the second of three children into the great dynasty of Tahlin. With an older brother preparing for succession to the throne and a younger brother who was coddled and sheltered, Riki, the little middle son, seemed born to the art of invisibility. He cultivated this art and it eventually saved his life the night his people were betrayed and his family slaughtered. Of the entire royal family, only he survived, small and agile, unobtrusive, using the smoke as cover. He fought his way from the royal lands, taking advantage of surprise, cutting the throat of one enemy fighter after another. Now free from his royal duties, Riki uses his talents in another field of endeavor: assassin. He silences his enemies and hones his skills, hoping one day to exact revenge on those who killed his family and robbed him of his birthright.”
