The FIFA 23 career mode has been unveiled and brings some new features. But are they enough to make the mode more exciting again?
This is what was presented for the FIFA 23 career mode: With the help of a new trailer EA Sports showed what new features you can expect in FIFA 23 Career Mode.
A distinction is made between the “classic” career mode – the variant where you lead a team of your choice to the top as a coach – and the “player career”, in which you take over your own player.
The coaching career has been perhaps the most important offline mode for many players for years. There, you can push your favorite club to great heights, sign and sell players, shape talent, and win titles that might not even be possible in real life.
But at the same time, the career is always accused of stagnation, with only minor changes. How does it look this year?
Career mode brings real coaches and playable highlights – What else?
What does the career mode bring new? In the coaching career, the most exciting change is that you can finally take over real coaches. Instead of using your own avatar, you can simply take over coaches from the real world, such as Pep Guardiola or Jürgen Klopp.
You can then use these coaches in any club, in your “own club” as well, and you can also customize their outfits. However, they don’t seem to have any special abilities compared to other coaches.
The second interesting change concerns all those who prefer to manage but still like to play the matches a bit in between: You can now select “playable highlights” of a match in the career.
That’s where most of the match is simulated. But if your team has a promising attack, a penalty kick or something similar, the game will automatically take you to that spot. You then play the situation yourself before jumping to the next “highlight”. You can choose whether you want to play all highlights or only the offensive highlights.
Up until now, you’ve been able to simulate an entire match, watch the interactive simulation, or jump in and out of the match as needed. With the “playable highlights” the simulation possibilities are completed.
What else does the coaching career bring? There are a few other new features. These include:
- The “Transfer Analyst”. It tells you if your transfer was a good deal and if your investment in a new player was worth it. This should help you improve your negotiating skills.
- You can now customize a third jersey and the goalkeeper jersey for your own clubs.
- There is now a more accurate budget overview of your club.
- There are “Dynamic Moments”. These are new cinematics that will accompany the most important stages of your career. This can concern a breakthrough as a player (in the player’s career), but also transfer market behavior.
- There is a new main menu in the career mode. This is much more similar to Ultimate Team:
Are there any other innovations? The other innovations are mainly in the area of the “Player Career”. There are now different personality types for your players, and the stats in the playstyle are based on them.
You can develop your personality not only in press conferences or on the pitch, but also through events off the pitch.
For example, you can give gifts to fellow players, be seen at birthday parties, and the like. This complements the new player career features from last year.
The problem with the career mode: It’s almost a tradition that fans want new features for the career mode.
This year, with the playable coaches, something is added that players have wanted for a long time. Over the last years there were also innovations like the own club in FIFA 22 or the improved training and talent system from FIFA 21.
However, many elements from the career mode often remained similar to the predecessors over the years, there wasn’t really a real “complete overhaul” of the mode.
An often requested feature that some players would like to see, for example, is an online component to play the career with friends – or even against them. That’s missing this year, too.
Story-wise, too, little has been happening in the career lately. Reports about the games or about your club in the news center repeat themselves quite fast, also in the contact with players you don’t see too much variety.
Will the new features in FIFA 23 be enough to excite the players? What do you think about the new features? Tell us in the comments!
An important innovation this year is the crossplay in FIFA 23, but this has no application in the career for the time being.
