Due to the coronavirus COVID-19 the soccer came to a standstill some time ago. No soccer also means no new Team of the Week (TOTW) for FIFA 20. But what will happen now? And what about future in-game events?
Electronic Arts rewards players for their real-world achievements with a spot in TOTW, but what actually happens when there are no more real-world achievements? No one can count on unpredictable events like the Coronavirus and its consequences – will TOTW 26 remain the last team of the week for now?
The effects of the Coronavirus on FIFA 20
The special inform cards from the Team of the Week have been the object of desire for all players since the start of FUT mode, as the cards come with increased stats compared to the players’ gold counterpart.
The shutdown of soccer due to COVID-19 has of course an impact on FIFA 20, for example all Esports events of the FIFA 20 Global Series have been suspended indefinitely.
Also a possible 27th Team of the Week will not take place, as Electronic Arts announced on Twitter.
Replaced the new Team of the Week with brand new Team of the Week moment cards. A team of 20 special cards based entirely on historical TOTW teams from previous FUT titles.
With the difference that the players have been assigned to their current club and their overall rating adjusts to their ongoing FUT 20 upgrades. Manchester City’s Kyle Walker, for example, was given a center back card based on his special card from FIFA 18. However, since he already has an 86-inform card in FIFA 20, the TOTW moments card comes to an overall rating of 87.
TOTW Moments cards, just like TOTW cards, can be drawn in packs for one week. They also show up in draft games and can be part of future FUT targets. Full details on the new cards can be found in EA’s Pitch Notes.
What consequences can be expected?
To make one thing clear: The suspension of real soccer and all other sports and major events is definitely the right decision.
Of course, this also has consequences for the further course of FIFA 20, especially since there is no end in sight so far. On Twitter, Electronic Arts shares that they are trying everything to adapt to this ever-changing situation.
All in-game content for the coming weeks, if not months, is likely to be affected. These include, for example:
- Man of the Match cards
- Player of the month
- UCL and UEL Live cards
The Headliner and OTW cards will receive additional upgrades if the corresponding players make it to the TOTW moments teams, the officials have already confirmed that. However, the lack of the aforementioned special cards obviously limits the potential of the best players in FIFA 20.
It might be worth selling cards like UCL Live Éder Militão or UEL Live Anthony Martial, as their value is guaranteed to drop with continued forced rest.

FIFA 23 WILL BE THE LAST PART OF THE GAME SERIES UNDER THIS NAME
FIFA 23 will be the last part of the game series to be released under the name of the world governing body and in collaboration with EA. So it is not surprising that the partnership of EA and FIFA ends with the upcoming game FIFA 23.
