Team Information :

Evil Geniuses is an American multi- organization. EG rosters are represented across 9 disciplines including , CSGO, and . The EG brand itself was at the dawn of the industry in the distant 2010s. We present to you the history of EG’s Dota Division.

First impression

The first mention of EG dates back to 2011, but the “evil geniuses” started playing actively in 2012. The initial lineup included international players:

  • maelk
  • demon
  • misery
  • fear
  • Lacoste

However, with such a roster, EG was not destined to conquer the heights of the scene. All in the same 2012, the team was waiting for changes. First Lacoste and MiSeRy left the team and soon DeMon went to the bench as well. The place of the two deceased players was taken by BuLba and UNiVeRsE, and DeMoN returned to the list.

With such a squad, the “evil geniuses” reached the main tournament of the year – The International 2012. At the championship itself, the team took 9th-12th places, which was a pretty good result, since few expected more from them.

However, the result did not satisfy the team and the squad fell apart. Throughout 2013, EG searched for their game and at the same time for the optimal line-up. They missed The International 2013 this year, the only year since 2012 that Evil Geniuses did not appear in the tournament.

The team began to gain momentum in early 2014.

Become giants

In 2014 the EC roster was changed. The schedule looked like this:

  • Fera
  • Arteezy
  • universe
  • zai
  • ppd

EG started winning. In March 2014, the team placed 1st at the Monster Energy Invitational and later placed 2nd at the Netolic Pro #5 West.

In April, EG wins MLG TKO America and JoinDOTA League – Season 1 America and also qualifies for Starladder StarSeries – Season 9.

At StarLadder itself, the team takes third place. Back in May, EG won the ESL One Frankfurt – American Qualifiers and The Summit 1 American Qualifiers.

It should be noted that as of StarLadder StarSeries – Season 9 leader EG Fear has been replaced due to a hand injury. First he was replaced by EternalEnvy and later by Mason.

With mason, the team managed to win the first The Summit and the HyperX D2L Western Challenge and took 2nd place at ESL One Frankfurt 2014.

Without fear, EG had to play at The International 2014. Despite the replacement, the team managed to take 3rd place, exceeding all fans’ expectations.

However, a brilliant result was never a guarantee of composition retention. That’s what happened to EG, who got caught up in a whirlwind of line-up changes after playing at TI4.

EC Championship

The changes did not come immediately. Fear returned to its position and the team continued to perform at international championships.

In October 2014, the team won the 10th StarLadder StarSeries – Season before taking 2nd place at ESL One New York 2014. EG later took first place at DreamLeague – Season 2.

In December 2014, EG placed 4th in The Summit 2 and 3rd-4th in Dota Pit League – Season 2. This was the last tournament with such a roster.

In January 2015, zai and Arteezy left EG and SumaiL and UNIVeRsE took their place. With this roster, the team took 3rd place in Dota 2 League – Season 5.

In February 2015, EG sensationally won the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2015. Later, the team took 2nd place in several major championships: JoinDOTA MLG Pro League – Season 1, The Summit 3 and ESL One Frankfurt 2015.

In July 2015, EG won the third – Season of Dota Pit League and the team faces the biggest challenge – performance at The International 2015.

EG came into the main tournament of the year as one of the favorites. The players themselves were extremely optimistic, and ppd prematurely announced EG’s victory. Peter’s words were confirmed on August 8th, 2015 when Echo Slam gave a final win over CDEC on UNiVeRsE EG. EG was the first North American team to ever win The International.

Post-TI period

Almost immediately after The International 2015, Aui_2000 was dropped from the roster, which made no small contribution to TI’s win. His place was taken by Arteezy and once again returned to the camp of evil geniuses. During the next year, EG was accompanied by constant lineup and player reshuffles.

After several championships with the formed squad, the turnover started again. In March, Arteezy and UNiVeRsE left the EG list and were replaced by BuLba and Aui_2000. Already in June, BuLba left the squad and moved to Team Secret, from where UNiVeRsE returned to EG, who left there in March.

In the same month, zai rejoined the team and aui_2000 was no longer needed for the second time. Much to our surprise at The International 2016, EG was able to finish 3rd despite constant changes in the team.

However, even finishing third in 2016 after first in 2015 didn’t help EG maintain the lineup. After TI, ppd left the team and in September Fear retired as a professional player.

All in the same September, EG announced the roster for the upcoming – Season . It includes: Arteezy, SumaiL, UNIVeRsE, zai and Cr1t-.

EG spent the next – Season with dignity. The team placed 3rd-4th at the 2016 Boston Major, the 2017 Kiev Major, won the Manila Masters and placed 2nd at the 2017 EPICENTER. However, a number of good performances were marred by 9th-12th place finishes at The International 2017.

After appearing in TI, Zai left the team and MISERY took his place in December.

Throughout 2018, EG couldn’t find their game, which eventually led to more replacements. Fear and misery left the squad and s4 and Fly took their place.

TI 2018 and beyond

At TI 2018, EG sparkled with new colors. The team looked reasonably confident until the second round of the playoffs, where they lost sensationally to OG.

On the bottom row, EG initially dealt with VP and later knocked out last year’s champions Liquid. However, PSG.LGD prevented the evil geniuses from taking revenge on OG and knocked the Americans out of the tournament.

At TI8, EG finished 3rd, which will accompany them in the next – Season .

In the 2019 – Season , EG was definitely a stable and strong team. They finished 3rd in almost every major tournament of the – Season : the Kuala Lumpur Major, the Chongqing Major and the MDL Disneyland Paris Major. Exceptions were DreamLeague – Season 11 and EPICENTER Major 2019 where EG finished 7th-8th and 13th-16th respectively.

However, good performances throughout the year didn’t help EG at TI 2019 where the team finished 5th-6th.

In September 2019, s4 and SumaiL left the team and Abed and RAMZES666 took their place.

2020 year

2020 started on a positive note for EG: the team finished 2nd in DreamLeague – Season 13, but things went wrong with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The team continued to win at local championships, but the region did not allow full performance in international tournaments.

The last tournament before the next roster change was OMEGA League: Europe Immortal Division, where the team finished 5th-6th. RAMZES666 left the team in November and iceiceice took his place

Organization and prize money

The manager of the team is Fronz, the coach of the Dota 2 squad is BuLba and the captain is fly. EG has worked with a number of large companies including Monster Energy, Razer, LG Ultra Gear, America’s Marine, Motorola, Secretlab, Twitch and PEAK6.

Since the inception of the Dota roster, the organization has already won over 20,000,000 in prizes.

Dota 2

Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena title from Valve. The successor to the extremely popular 3 modification DotA (Defense of the Ancients), Dota 2 was the company’s first strategy game and was released on the download platform Steam on July 9, 2013. The game is a free-to-play title that can be played completely free of charge and is financed through in-game microtransactions, similar to Team Fortress 2.

Dota 2 is – unlike other big MOBA titles like League of Legends – free to play with all heroes. However, game items can be purchased in the Dota 2 store, but all of them have no effect on the gameplay. Only cosmetic items like different skins for the heroes can be purchased. Just like in Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Portal 2, it is possible to create your own content via the Steam Workshop.
