The official release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is not far away and yesterday’s CoD Next stream caused even more excitement than initially expected. There it was announced that a new raid mode will soon captivate many PvE players. Just like in Destiny 2.
What was announced in CoD Next? On Thursday, September 15, 2022, the “CoD Next” stream started. In it, Activision shared not only a lot of new stuff about Warzone 2.0 and its mobile variant, but also about Modern Warfare 2.
One point of the interview also mentioned a new PvE mode, called “Raid”. If you’re from the loot shooter faction and like to tear apart monsters with your fellow guardians in Destiny 2, you’ll be familiar with the term.
It is, a crunchy PvE activity where players have to work together to get to the objective and complete the mission. Such a popular mode from Destiny 2 is now to come to MW2.
Here’s the multiplayer trailer from Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 again:
Raids just like in Destiny 2 only with three players
What are Raids in Destiny 2? In Destiny 2, raids are a 6-player activity with no integrated player search. Guardians must therefore gather their comrades themselves. Once the squad is in place, the players embark on a “big mission”. It is the task of the guardians to defeat the final boss in order to banish the threat against humanity.
In Destiny 2 you will have to face many bosses
However, the path to the final boss is filled with pitfalls. There are many jump passages, puzzles, and even intermediate bosses to stop you in your tracks. So while MW2 isn’t an MMO, the shooter could still adopt some mechanics from sci-fi developer “Bungie” into its universe.
What could the raids in MW2 look like? In CoD Next, some hints about the raid mode in MW2 have already been revealed in the process. These include:
- The mode will be designed for 3 players
- There will be puzzles and crisp battles
- A raid will last for several hours
- And also strategy is important to progress in a raid of MW2
This is apparently a scaled-down version of the well-known raids from Destiny 2, but what could certainly be interesting for players would be an option for an integrated player search.
CoD has its own player search system. Therefore, there is a possibility that the developers could now implement this for their raid mode as well. Something that Bungie is planning to do, but has not yet implemented in Destiny 2. Guardians of the space shooter have to search for players themselves to even be able to tackle the multiplayer activity.
It’s quite possible that mercenaries won’t have to struggle with finding suitable fighters on their own. However, it will be some time before the release of MW2’s raid mode, as players will not be able to truly enjoy the shooter and its content until November 16.
What do you think of the raid idea for MW2? Would you try it out or even celebrate it? Let us know what you think in the comments!
