CoD will probably not be included in Game Pass for the time being.
Microsoft, thanks to its acquisition of Activision, will soon have one of the most well-known and biggest brands in the gaming world in its hands: Call of Duty. Since the company usually releases first-party games in their subscription service at launch, it actually stands to reason that once the acquisition is complete, we’ll also be able to play CoD in Game Pass as soon as a new spin-off is released – right? In fact, there are arguments that this won’t be the case – at least not in the near future.
Deal between Sony and Activision could prevent CoD in Game Pass.
Various leakers and insiders have confirmed that Activison and Sony have a contract that guarantees at least three more Call of Duty parts along with exclusive benefits for the PlayStation. This contract should also include that the brand is not allowed to appear in Game Pass for that long, because that would be a clear weakening for Sony. Even the takeover cannot change this agreement, as the PS5 exclusives Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo, which were developed by studios that are now part of the Xbox team, have shown.

These CoD parts are definitely still coming to PlayStation: The first offshoot of the deal is this year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Those who play on PS4 or PS5 will apparently get to enjoy the beta sooner than on Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S.
According to various reports, no new part of the series will be released in 2023 for the first time in 18 years. Instead, there is supposed to be a Warzone successor next year. Warzone 2 is supposed to be unveiled in 2022 and bring various innovations with it.
The next main part of the CoD series is then not to be released until 2024. With this game, the contract would be fulfilled. So the franchise could come to Game Pass in 2025 at the earliest. If the two-year rhythm is maintained, it would not even be until 2026.

What happens to Call of Duty from 2025?
It’s entirely possible that CoD will appear in Game Pass from 2025 or 2026 onwards at their respective launches. However, that doesn’t mean that the series will necessarily become an Xbox exclusive. In fact, it’s likely that Microsoft won’t miss out on cashing in on the PlayStation versions.
There’s a whole other possibility, though, as perhaps all CoD games will eventually become Free-2-Play, just like Warzone is now. At the very least, though, there will be a dedicated subscription service for the franchise, which will bring with it various benefits and bonuses.
Do you think CoD will be on Game Pass at some point at release?
