The Tropas are an army from Call of Duty: Black Ops. They are soldiers from Cuba who serve under Fidel Castro. In the campaign, they only appear in the first mission, Operation 40, but they still appear in multiplayer as a playable faction. In Call of Duty: Black Ops II they appear in the mission Pyrrhic Victory. Thousands of Cuban soldiers and pilots were shipped to Angola in the 1980s to help the MPLA fight UNITA and South Africa. Alex Mason and Jason Hudson infiltrate a hut full of tropas to call Jonas Savimbi for help because the newly found Frank Woods needs to be evacuated. They are discovered by Raul Menendez, who is working with the Tropas, whereupon Mason takes him hostage. Menendez fights back and is able to throw Mason to the ground, but he is more nimble, shoots him in the face and flees. The Tropas rush after the three, but the trio manages to escape thanks to a UNITA helicopter.

Info
- The term Tropas means “troops” in both Spain and Portugal.
- Although the AK-47 is even on the Tropas’ logo, they don’t use the weapon once in the campaign.
- If you play with the Tropas (or with the NVA) and use Bulletproof Vest, you have stripes on your shoulder that read CCCP, which means USSR in German. The same is true for the Spetsnaz.
- The Tropas are the third faction from Latin America, the first was the Brazilian Militia and the second the Havana Police Department.
- The raider model of the Tropas wears exactly the same backpack as the Op 40 and the winter model of the Black Ops.
- Ironically, the Tropas and their homeland only appear in the first mission in the campaign, but still, most of the multiplayer maps are set in Cuba.
- The hardliner model of the Tropas wears gloves when you play, but if a third person looks at your hands, they are not covered.
- The multiplayer announcer of the Tropas is the only one who calls thunder by its actual name, the others just say B-52 or area bombing. But he doesn’t always do that, sometimes even he resorts to nicknames.
- There is a glitch where the announcer does not announce that dogs are coming to the battlefield.
- One of their sayings, “Lanzando granada pegada,” translates to “Throw sticky grenade!”. A more accurate translation would be “Lanzando granada pegajosa!”, meaning “Throw sticky grenade!”.
- If you get wounded, the character sometimes yells “Enfermo aqui!”. However, this means “I’m sick,” meaning ill. The more accurate translation would have been “Herido aqui!”.
- There is a mistake, when one of the tropas places a claymore he says “Plantando dinamita”, but dinamita means dynamite and in Spanish there is no specific word for claymore. So the correct pronunciation would have been “Plantando Claymore”.
- In the Wii version, the tropas have a different song when spawning.
- In the campaign mission where the Tropas appear, they hold the Scorpion like a gun.
Call of Duty
The Call of Duty series has existed since 2003 and in addition to various spin-offs, including for the handheld systems Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, 14 major titles of the series have now been released. Ever since the first part of the series, great emphasis has been placed on the online multiplayer mode in addition to the single-player campaign, which is also reflected in the development of the shooter series. Since the first Call of Duty, World at War, which was developed exclusively by Treyarch, each part also included cooperative challenges that you could play together with friends. The latest installment, Call of Duty: World War II, also features an extended multiplayer mode that puts you and your friends in the combat zones and famous battles of World War II. Using the divisions, you’ll be able to choose between the deadly sniper and the brute armored division and support your comrades in battle. In addition, World War II also has a zombie mode “Nazi Zombies”, as in its predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops. Face the monsters of the Third Reich and win glory and honor.
