3 developments that are really worthwhile

In Pokémon GO, the World Cup event is currently taking place, where you can look forward to numerous spawns and bonuses, as well as various event attacks. We at MeinMMO have taken a look at which monsters you should definitely develop.

Which event is it about? Pokémon GO is currently running the big World Cup event, which is being held to mark the Pokémon World Cup in London. Of course, this event is all about fighting, which is also reflected in the research and bonuses of the event.

One of these bonuses gives you special event attacks if you evolve selected Pokémon during the event period. We took a look at what these attacks are and which monsters are really worth it.

How long are the attacks available? You can get the event attacks during the entire event period, i.e. from August 18, 2022 at 10:00 local time until August 23, 2022 at 20:00 local time.

Which 3 developments should you get?

What are the event attacks? For the World Cup event, Niantic has selected a total of 5 Pokémon that can learn an event attack when evolving. These are attacks that you already know from the previous Community Days and that can only be learned outside of such events with a Top Instant TM or Top Charge TM.

You can teach these monsters the following attacks until August 23, 2022:

AttackDevelopment
Rock throwerRizeros to Rihornior
Sinister FistAlpollo to Gengar
Wet TailKarpador to Garados
Star PunchMetang to Metagross
IncinerateDartignis to Fiaro

Which of the attacks is most worthwhile? Basically, all of the above event attacks are strong, which is why you can use them in any case. However, 3 of the monsters mentioned are particularly worth developing, which is why we would like to briefly introduce them to you below.

Rihornior

Pokemon Go Rihornior

Rihorn normal (left) and as Shiny (right)

What kind of Pokémon is this? Rihornior is a soil and rock Pokémon from the 4th generation of games. It can evolve from Rihorn via Rizeros. You can recognize the rhino-like Pokémon by its gray-brown body and orange armor.

Why is it worth evolving? Rihornior is especially interesting for players who are looking for a strong candidate for the raids. It can namely benefit from high attack and stamina values in particular.

However, Rihornior also benefits from the event charge attack Rock Thrower and, in combination with the instant attack Catapult, does a decent amount of damage to the opponent. This makes it the best rock attacker in Pokémon GO.

In the GO Battle League, Rihornior scores slightly lower compared to other monsters. Only in the Master League is it an option with a moveset consisting of Clay Cuff, Rock Thrower, and Surfer. But even here, you should rather go for better candidates.

Does Rihornior exist as a Shiny? Yes, if you’re lucky, you can encounter a Shiny Rihorn from Field Research during the World Cup event and evolve it into Rihornior via Rizeros. You will recognize the shiny Rihornior by its grayish body and yellow armor.

Note, however, that you must use a Sinnoh Stone to evolve Rihornior. You can read where to find it and which evolutions are useful with it in our article below:

Pokémon GO: Sinnoh Stone evolutions – 10 that are worthwhile in 2022

Metagross

Pokemon Go Metagross
Metagross normal (left) and as Shiny (right)

What kind of Pokémon is this? The Steel and Psycho Pokémon Metagross is from the 3rd game generation and is the last evolution of Tanhel. During the World Cup event, you can find Tanhel in the Field Researches and evolve it accordingly via Metang. You can recognize it by its typical metallic appearance.

Why is it worth developing? Metagross is a true all-rounder and thus well suited for use in raids as well as the GO battle league. In both areas, it can use the event attack Star Strike, which causes a lot of damage to the opponent.

And its attack and defense stats are also quite impressive. With a moveset consisting of Cartridge Strike and Star Strike, it quickly brings its opponents to their knees as one of the best attackers in Pokémon GO.

In PvP battles, Metagross is a good option, especially in the Master League. It’s best to use an attack combination of Cartridge Strike, Star Strike, and Earthquake.

Is Metagross available as a Shiny? Yes, with a little luck you can catch a Shiny Tanhel and evolve it into a Shiny Metagross. The Metagross will then be distinguished from its normal variant by a yellow cross-shaped decoration in front of its eyes, as well as yellow feet.

Fiaro

Fiaro normal (left) and as Shiny (right)

What kind of Pokémon is this? Fiaro is a fire and flight Pokémon from the 6th generation of games. It has two pre-evolutions, Dartiri and Dartignis. You can recognize Fiaro by its raptor-like body and its red-gray feathers.

Why is it worth developing? Unlike the other evolutions on this list, Fiaro is slightly weaker in attack, stamina, and defense. Nevertheless, you should get the Pokémon with its event instant attack Incinerate.

With this, it can really score points, especially in the Hyper League. Fiaro is 16th in the PvPoke rankings with a moveset consisting of Incinerate, Dive, and Nitro Charge. So if you like PvP battles, you should take the opportunity to develop one.

Does Fiaro exist as a shiny? Yes, Shiny Fiaro is already available in the game. Again, you must catch an iridescent Dartiri and then evolve it accordingly. Visually, the Shiny variant differs from the normal form only by a slightly darker red coloration of the plumage and a brownish body.

Are the attacks of Garados and Gengar also strong?

Garados: The water and flight Pokémon is basically also a real all-rounder, but can convince with the event attack especially in the GO Battle League. There, its Crypto variant lands in 35th place in the Hyper League and 17th place in the Master League of the PvPoke ranking with a moveset consisting of Fire Ember, Wet Tail, and Crunch.

In the Raids, it is also one of the best attackers in Pokémon GO, but here you should rather rely on an attack combination of cascade and hydro pump. It is therefore especially interesting for trainers in the GO Battle League.

Gengar: The last evolution of Nebulak can score especially with its high attack value and thus also joins the list of the best attackers. However, the Spirit and Poison Pokémon also relies more on other attacks there, such as a moveset of Dark Claw and Licker.

In the GO Battle League, the event attack Finster Fist is basically used, but Gengar only ends up 72nd in the Hyper League here. And it hardly plays a role in the Super and Master Leagues either.

So the attack could be used especially on Mega Gengar in fights, since it is relatively fast charging and thus quickly takes away the shields of the opponent.

How do you like the charging attacks for the WM event? Which monsters will you be developing? Or would you have preferred different attacks and Pokémon? Feel free to post your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments and share it with other trainers.

During the World Cup event, you will also have the chance to secure additional limited research through promo codes. Here we have compiled an overview of all codes for you.
