Fortnite was removed from the App Store due to changes made by Epic Games. Epic didn’t put up with that, sparking a legal battle between the two companies. Now, however, Xbox has created an option that gives players the chance to finally play Fortnite on Apple devices again.
Why was Fortnite banned from Apple? Any app that sells something in their games and is displayed in the Apple store must cede percentages of the game’s revenue to Apple. These percentages range from 15% – 30% of the revenue generated.
Epic, however, no longer wanted to be forced into these levies by the corporate giant. Therefore, the prices for the in-game currency “V-Bucks” were permanently reduced. Now only Epic takes the full profits they make from buying the V-Bucks.
Apple didn’t like that and unceremoniously kicked Fortnite out of the App Store. This sparked a legal battle between the two companies, which ensured that Fortnite is still not issued to the Apple Store until Epic makes these levies again.
Xbox, however, is finally giving you the chance to play Fortnite on iOS devices again. We’ll show you how to do it.
How you can finally play Fortnite on iOS again.
Epic Games’ CEO is also touting the new Xbox method on Twitter, promising no necessary subscription or unnecessary costs that Apple will force on you.
So to be able to gamble on your iPhone or iPad, here’s what you need:
- A Microsoft account
- An Internet connection
- A device that has a browser
Once you have all of these things, you log in to Xbox’s site and can start playing on your device right away.
Will Apple do anything about this? Basically, Microsoft has created a cunning loophole for Epic Games here, where players have the chance to gamble despite the Fortnite ban.
Whether Apple will put up with this, however, is unclear. It will be difficult to do anything about it, since everything runs through your browser.
It’s also unlikely that Apple will block Microsoft’s site to prevent you from playing your colorful BR shooter. However, if Apple does comment on the matter, we will let you know directly.
What do you think about Epic finding a way to make Fortnite playable on iOS devices after all? Do you think it’s good, or is this way not official enough for you and you’d rather wait until the Fortnite app is working again? Let us know in the comments!
