In the World Team League (WTL) Summer 2022 finals are upon us, with the world’s strongest teams battling it out for the title. In a group phase lasting eleven weeks, seven of twelve participating teams have recommended themselves for the play-offs.

The order within the table determines the starting position in the final round, which you can imagine as a ladder. Waiting at the top of the final Dragon Phoenix Gaming (DPG), which secured the first place in the ranking during the exciting final week of the group stage. KaiZi Gaming (KZG), which finished in second place, awaits accordingly in the semifinals, third-place Alpha X in the quarterfinals, and so on. So if you barely qualify, you’ll have to fight your way through all those teams to grab the title.

WTL Summer 2022 – Play-offs

So what does the final round fixture list look like? These games are waiting for you:

• Round 1: Team NV vs. Kwangdong Freecs – August 12, 2022, 12 o’clock
• Round 2: PSISTORM Gaming vs. Round 1 Winner – August 12, 2022, 2 p.m.
• Round 3: Shopify Rebellion vs. Round 2 Winner – August 13, 2022, 12 p.m.
• Quarterfinals: Alpha X vs. Round 3 Winner – August 13, 2022, 2 PM
• Semifinals: KZG vs. quarterfinal winners – August 14, 2022, 12 p.m.
• Final: DPG vs. semifinal winners – August 14, 2022, 2 p.m.

The past group stage was arguably the most hotly contested in the league’s history, with more teams in first place during the – Season than ever before. In the end, however, reigning champions DPG managed to pick up the necessary points to finish top, despite some surprising setbacks.

The team owes this mainly to the work of Joon-ho “herO” Kim. He is currently in top form and won the latest edition of the GSL – the most important league in “StarCraft 2”. DPG signed herO shortly after his return from military service in the South Korean army, taking a risk because normally returnees never reach their old heights. However, the Protoss player seems to be an exception and rewarded the trust the team placed in him. He won 17 of his 23 games during the – Season and secured victory in the final week’s deciding game against archrivals KZG.
DPG’s lineup enters the race with slight favorite status – but defending the title will by no means be a walk in the park, as Byeong-yeol “Rogue” Lee, a key performer for the champions, is about to start his military service and is therefore no longer properly in training.
