One of the most popular World of Warcraft expansions you can soon get again from new experience. The Wrath of the Lich King addon is scheduled to arrive in WoW Classic before the end of 2022 and will once again take you to Northrend and into battle against Arthas Menethil.

When will Wrath of the Lich King Classic be released?

After being reported a few days earlier by the fan site WoWhead, a release date was posted for a few minutes on the official website of Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Now it has been officially confirmed with a trailer: On September 27, 2022 at 00:01 German time appears WotLK Classic.

Along with the trailer, a 50% experience event started which is now available in WoW Classic and runs until the start of the expansion. So if you still want to level up a character now, it will go twice as fast. Alternatively, you can deactivate the boost at the innkeeper of your respective capital.

Wrath of the Lich King Classic pre-patch now live

The pre-release patch includes the following features:

• “Become a death knight”: Death Knights are fallen heroes of Azeroth who have been resurrected as undead to serve the Lich King. You can now create and play World of Warcraft’s first hero class. More information about the Death Knight can be found on the official website.
• “Learn the Art of Inscription”.: Wrath of the Lich King brings back the first version of the Inscription profession. It allows you to become an Inscription Master and create items such as scrolls, tomes, or glyphs. More information about the profession can also be found on the official website.
• “Get ready for a chase”.: You can earn achievements in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. With the release of the pre-patch, you can now view and earn achievements from WoW Classic and Burning Crusade Classic. The achievements come in different categories – such as quests, exploration, dungeons & raids, and more.
• “Survive the Zombie Plague and Scourge Invasion.”: With the pre-patch comes the preparation event for Wrath of the Lich King Classic. During the week of September 6, suspicious shipments will arrive at ports. These will infect anyone who comes into contact with them with a deadly plague. Two servers for the “New Beginning

The release of the pre-patch also brings two new realms for players who want to start fresh and build a new community with new characters and players:

• Thekal (PvP)
• Giantstalker (Normal)

There are a few rules to follow for these restart realms:

• Characters on new start realms may not be upgraded for 90 days
• You may not perform character transfers to the New Beginning realms for 90 days
• Death knights cannot be created on the realms without a level 55 character on the same realm.

What new features are coming with Wrath of the Lich King?

In addition to a new storyline and events surrounding the machinations of Arthas and his minions, you can look forward to the following features:

• New maximum level: Level 80
• New class: Death knight
• New profession: Epigraphy
• New area: North End
• New instances and raid
• 10-player and 25-player raids
• Achievement system
• In-game character customization thanks to barber
• Quest tracking (if it will be released is still uncertain, according to Blizzard the tool is still in development)

If you decide to play a Death Knight, you will not start with him at level 1 as usual, but at level 55. In the case of WoW Classic, he is even available shortly before the launch of the new addon, so you can already play him up to level 70.

What are the differences between Classic and Vanilla?

While Blizzard still lived a strict #NoChanges policy at the beginning of WoW Classic, things are already different with the release of the second Classic addon. In a blog post, the developers explain that these changes from the original vanilla version are there to revive the old WoW feel.

Specifically, the following points are changed:

• Wrath of the Lich King launches with patch 3.3.5: With this, death knights are not as exaggerated as strong, as back at the beginning of the expansion in 2008.
• No Dungeon Finder: Blizzard wants to strengthen the social aspects of group finding and therefore abandons the dungeon finder tool. Instead, Blizzard is working on a new UI for the group search tool. So you don’t necessarily have to resort to the good old chat channel, but you can find each other via the tool. This way, you won’t be automatically thrown together, but you’ll still have a pleasant overview.
• Naxxramas gets harder: Those who beat up Kel’Thuzad on the fly back then will need longer this time, because all enemies in Naxxramas get a health and damage buff.
• Emblems of Honor drop at launch: While the item system changed several times during the course of the expansion, a uniform line is now supposed to ensure clear goals. Emblems of Honor and Emblems of Heroism will be available at the launch of the Classic expansion.
• Personalized Arena Raitings: PvP team scores fly out and are replaced by personal scores.
• More choice in the barber: At the Barber, you can also equip your character with modifications and hairstyles that only made their way into World of Warcraft after Wrath of the Lich King.
• There will be new Fresh Start realms: With the launch of Wrath of the Lich King Classic, there will be a number of new servers where you can start fresh and not be subject to the influence of existing players. This should be especially exciting for those who are new to WoW Classic with WotLK.
