Unlike in the current retail WoW, there is no artificial time gating in the Classic Trilogy that allows flying only after the expansion has been running for about a year. Here you level up, collect gold, and then simply buy the riding skill. In the blog published today, Blizzard explains how to learn cold weather flying in Northrend.
Once you reach the snow-covered landscape of Northrend in Wrath of the Lich King Classic™, your mounts will take you to your desired destinations, but only on the ground. With Cold Weather Flight, however, you’ll soon be able to face the biting cold in the skies above Northrend, so dress warmly and get ready.

GET YOUR PILOT’S LICENSE
To learn ‘Cold Weather Flight’, you must have reached level 77 and be proficient in ‘Experienced Riding’ or ‘Flight Form’ (Druids).
When you are ready, you can visit the following teachers to learn Cold Weather Flight:
- Hira Snow Dawn, who you will find at Krasus’ landing site in Dalaran. Hira also provides you with the Cold Weather Flight tome, which allows your side characters to learn Cold Weather Flight starting at level 68.
- Roxi Ram Rocket in Camp K3 in the Storm Peaks.
- Pilot Vic at the river fork in the Sholazar Basin.
CALL CAN NOT HURT
Of course, you can learn the skills ‘Experienced Riding’ and ‘Skilled Riding’ from the Cold Weather Flight teachers, but with the appropriate reputation they cost less at Maigra Sharpfeather in Valianz Fortress (Alliance) or Wind Rider Samamba in Warsong Fortress (Horde) in the Borean Tundra.
Depending on your reputation at Honor Hold (Alliance) or Thrallmar (Horde) in Hellfire Peninsula, you may be able to get even bigger discounts from Hargen Bronzewing in Honor Hold or Wind Rider Jahubo in Thrallmar.
LITTLE USED MEANS AS GOOD AS NEW…
Need a cab but haven’t mastered ‘cold weather flight’ yet? Don’t worry. “Honest” Max at Camp K3 in the Storm Peaks has borrowed mounts for everyone level 77 and up. But be warned: these flying mounts are a bit cumbersome and stubborn. They only fly at 60% within the Storm Peaks, Sholazar Basin, and Icecrown.
READING INSPIRES YOUR SIDE CHARACTERS
After your first character reaches level 80 and learns ‘Cold Weather Flight’, you can get the Foliant of Cold Weather Flight for your secondary characters from Hira Snow Dawn. Any side character you want to level in Northrend will need a Tome of Cold Weather Flight to take to the skies starting at level 68.
