On May 19, 2021, the pre-patch of WoW: Burning Crusade Classic will turn the Azeroth we know from WoW Classic inside out. In this special, we’ll tell you which new features you can look forward to – and which ones you can’t.

With the maintenance work on May 19, 2021, the WoW: Burning Crusade Classic pre-patch lands on all currently available WoW Classic servers. But what is actually in the update? What innovations and adjustments can we look forward to? In this special we want to answer exactly these questions!

May 17 Update: The Burning Crusade Classic pre-patch is scheduled for this week, and we’ve added the latest insights to our rundown of what’s new in the patch.

Division of the Classic world
Before you can log into the Classic servers after the pre-patch has been implemented, you have to make a decision: Do you actually want to experience the Burning Crusade content with your characters or would you rather switch to the new Era servers? Or would you like to do both with one or more characters and spend 35 euros per character? We already explained exactly how this election works in the following article:

WoW: TBC Classic – This is how clone service / switch to era servers work
Also available as part of the pre-patch is the character boost at level 58, which you can purchase through the Dark Portal Pass ($39.99) or the new Deluxe Edition ($69.99) .

Update: Incidentally, it is already clear how the German Era servers will be linked on May 19th in order to offer Classic Era players a sufficiently large community. In the DE region, the following realms will be linked:

Lakeshire and Everlook
Lucifron, Patchwerk and Transcendence
Dragon’s Call, Heartstriker and Venoxis
Update: As of May 19th, server transfers for characters are said to be available again, with an increased gold limit of 5,000 gold pieces .

The highlight innovations from the pre-patch
In the following we present the most important features of the pre-patch:

We get access to Blood Elves (Horde) and Draenei (Alliance) as well as their respective starting areas and capitals.
The horde gains access to paladins via the new peoples, and the alliance is allowed to lead shamans into battle for the first time.
We are allowed to raise the Jewelcrafting profession to 300.
The talent trees of all classes will be revised and expanded with new talents.
The honor system will be revised, the value resilience introduced. It will also be possible to play skirmish games in the first arenas. Additionally, you can now purchase Honor system gear and weapons (including Rank 13 and 14 items) for Honor and Battleground Tokens. You no longer need a specific rank.
The experience required to level up between levels 20 and 60 will be reduced. Quests give more experience between level 30 and 60, as well as dungeon quests between 1 and 60. Elite quests between 1 and 60 are simplified. Also, dungeon loot will be improved across the board, and there are now many more quests to be found in Dustwallow Marsh.

What else changes with the pre-patch?

The Burning Crusade Classic will use Patch 2.4.3 as a foundation in many areas, and this will impact the pre-patch as well.

The cap on debuffs that can be applied to enemies at the same time has been increased from 16 to 40.
Many consumables are split into Combat Elixir and Guardian Elixir. You can only use one Combat Elixir and Guardian Elixir at a time. If you throw in a flask, elixirs are not usable at all, since a flask is treated like a guardian and combat elixir.
Items no longer provide a percentage increase in Critical Hit Chance, Hit Chance, or Dodge Chance. Instead, the so-called “Combat Rating System” is introduced for all values.
More on this: WoW: TBC Classic – buff cap, values, AoE damage – that is changing

Skill ranks that were previously only available through books can be bought from the class teacher.
All Priests gain access to Fear Ward .
Cast Speed reduces the global cooldown of spells to up to 1 second.
Low rank spells cast by high level characters benefit less from plus healing and plus spell damage.

Players can be summoned in front of the respective instance via meeting stones.
Quests from Silithus give more reputation with the Cenarion Circle.
The PTR no longer has the dungeon limit of 30 IDs per day.
