WoW TBC Classic: War Gleven of Azzinoth

In just under a week, the time will finally come! On January 27, 2022 opens the Black Temple in WoW: opens its doors.! Oh, and the Battle for Hyjal too, of course. The latter raid instance, despite its connection to Warcraft 3, is much less popular with many players. The numerous trash waves get on your nerves at some point, and frustration can also quickly arise in Archimonde when an unfortunate death triggers a chain reaction that ends in the umpteenth wipe.

Legendary good loot

The Black Temple on the other hand, has a similar atmosphere and flair as Naxxramas and comes with nine antagonists, including Illidan, one of the most iconic antagonists in Warcraft history. And that same Illidan drops the strongest of the TBC era: the Twin Blades of Azzinoth (War Gleve of Azzinoth + War Gleve of Azzinoth).

Rogues and warriors carrying these Gleven catapult to the top of the DpS charts in terms of damage almost effortlessly in almost all boss fights, and the blades are simply powerful in PvP as well. The bad news is that the two legendary weapons are unfortunately also extremely rare. The author of these lines couldn’t even get a Gleve out of Illidan in the original TBC.

An editor of WoWHead calculated that the chance to get only one (!) Gleve after 14 Illidan kills should be 26.2 percent. After 24 kills it is “already” 50.1 percent and after 40 kills 75.9 percent. But in 40 weeks we will probably already fight against Kil’jaeden and look forward to WotLK Classic.

Is there a perfect loot prio?

Now, of course, the question is: Who do you give this extremely powerful and extremely rare weapon to first? The Gleven are “best in slot” for Furor Warriors and Battle Rogues alike. There is no better option in the entire TBC era. Battle Rogues get a little more damage out of the weapon in single-target situations, while Furor Warriors rock fights against multiple enemies.

Back in March 2021, Sno and Zirene addressed this topic in their podcast and defined several options for the Loot Prio for themselves: 1) If you only have one rogue in the raid who has been keeping Weaken Armor active since Phase 1, give him the weapons. 2) If you are in a speedrun guild and want the weapons to have the most effect possible, give the blades to the Furor Warrior who pumps the most DpS. 3) If you are in a normal guild, give the weapons to a player who has done a lot for the guild.

Alternatively, you can of course run the Gleven through your normal loot distribution system. However, if someone saves up DKP for the weapons, for example, he or she runs the risk of not getting any or very few loot from the Black Temple (simply because the Gleven won’t drop).
