WoW: TBC Classic – This is how clone service / switch to era servers work

With yesterday’s info bomb, Blizzard revealed exactly how it works with the progressive TBC Classic servers, the Classic Era servers and the paid clone service.

The pre-patch for WoW: Burning Crusade Classic is coming on May 19th, the final launch will take place on June 2nd . In the course of this info bomb, the developers also explained exactly how this will work on the pre-patch day.

Finally, an important decision awaits us: do we stay with our characters on the progressive Classic servers, which will be expanded to include the TBC content? Are we moving to the new era servers that will remain at the Classic Phase 6 state (plus any Classic Plus content)? Or do we use the paid clone service to do both? Here is the most important information from the Blizzard guide :

The first steps
The pre-patch will bring Burning Crusade Classic content to all current World of Classic servers. When you log in for the first time, you can choose, for each of your existing characters, whether that character should progress to Burning Crusade Classic or remain on a World of Warcraft Classic era realm that you can register as a new one via the Battle.net Desktop App game can download.
Each character can be unlocked once for free in either Burning Crusade Classic or World of Warcraft Classic. If you want to play a character in both Burning Crusade Classic and World of Warcraft Classic, you can use the paid “Character Clone” service.

Choose your game

When you log into the Battle.net app, you will now see the following options under “Live” in the “Game Version & Account” selector: Warcraft Classic, Burning Crusade Classic, or World of Warcraft (buy now) .
Everything on the era realm will be the same as it was on the last day before the patch. While new, World of Warcraft Classic era realms will retain their names and function exactly as they did prior to the pre-patch.
All characters you created and played prior to the patch will be available on the same realms. These realms are available in both Burning Crusade Classic and World of Warcraft Classic. This means that all of your characters will be shown to you in both versions of the game.
If you last logged into World of Warcraft Classic before the patch , your default option in the Battle.net Desktop App will be Burning Crusade Classic . Select this option if you wish to continue playing Burning Crusade Classic . Upon login and character selection, you will see the Burning Crusade Classic screen. Here you can select the realms you played on prior to the patch and your characters will also be listed there. You can tell by the “Select Expansion” text under your character name that you have to make a choice for each of your characters.

You make the decision via a selection menu: “I want to play with this character in Burning Crusade” or “I want to play my character in the Classic era”. After your selection you confirm this by entering your character name.
Once you click accept, your character is a part of Burning Crusade Classic . While Outland will not be playable in the pre-patch, you can still create and play blood elf and draenei characters, and learn the Jewelcrafting profession, through early access.
To join and play on WoW Classic era realms , you must select World of Warcraft Classic in the Battle.net desktop app and install it as a new game. If you already had characters prior to the patch date, they will appear to you on the same realms they were originally created on. The decision then runs exactly as described above.
Clone service details

For players who wish to play a character in both Burning Crusade Classic and World of Warcraft Classic , there is a new optional service called Character Clone. This optional service is only available for characters that you have already made a choice for in another game.

For example, if the author of these lines has already confirmed their villain Creep for Burning Crusade Classic, they can still install WoW Classic and find Creep in the character select. However, this one is greyed out because a decision has already been made for the character. However, a clone symbol can be seen next to the character, which can be used to activate the clone service.

After clicking the clone icon, a confirmation window will appear with more information. It will you the date the character was “cloned” with all progress so far. After another click on “Accept” the shop window will open where you can buy the “Character Clone” service. As soon as the payment process is complete, Creep is allowed to make both classic versions unsafe.

Guide to the Clone Service
With the prepatch for Burning Crusade Classic, all WoW Classic realms will switch to the level of The Burning Crusade expansion. At the same time, however, we will be making new Classic-era realms available, which will remain at the level of patch 1.13.6 (Shadow of the Necropolis). Please see our Realm Types page for more information .

The Character Clone option gives you the ability to continue playing an existing character on a realm type of your choice: Burning Crusade Classic progression server or a Classic-era realm .

What is a character clone
In short, a clone is a copy of your current WoW Classic character based on a snapshot taken just prior to the Burning Crusade Classic pre-patch. WoW Classic characters that existed prior to the pre-patch will be automatically cloned for the appropriate Classic-era realm.

The character cloning service gives you a choice: you can activate the progression server clone —for free— and begin your adventures in the Burning Crusade expansion, or you can —also for free— activate your Classic era character to continue playing WoW Classic. You can also activate both characters for a fee.

How a clone is activated
After the pre-patch, the Battle.net app will give the option to launch the Burning Crusade Classic or WoW Classic game clients.

The first time you try to log into either of these two game clients with a character, you will be asked if you want to activate either the Burning Crusade Classic progression clone or the Classic Era clone. This selection is free and must be made individually for each character that existed before the pre-patch.

If you activate your Burning Crusade Classic progression clone, the Classic Era clone will be disabled and become unplayable
On the other hand, activating the Classic Era clone will disable the Burning Crusade Classic progression clone and become unplayable
Do you want to make both clones playable? After your first free selection, you can purchase an additional paid character cloning service to activate the remaining locked character copy.

Attention: The Gamemaster cannot offer any help if you mistakenly activated the wrong clone.

cloned characters can also be deleted and restored like other characters
Activating a clone on a Classic Era realm does not grant choice of the specific realm
your character stays on the same realm they were on before the pre-patch. So you z. B. If you played WoW Classic on Ashbringer, you can activate your character on either Classic Era Ashbringer or Progressive Ashbringer, or both for a fee
