The Blood Elf is out of the bag: Blizzard has finally announced The Burning Crusade for the WoW Classic servers! Now it’s time to prepare for the upcoming adventure in Outland. This includes not only choosing the right class and play style, but also your profession duo is enormously important in TBC Classic.
As important as the professions are in WoW Classic, they will become even more important when Blizzard revives the era of The Burning Crusade this year. The reason: the crafting trades provide you with exclusive bonuses and goods that have a noticeable effect on your performance in dungeons, raids, as well as PvP.
On the one hand, there are professions that are equally interesting for all classes and play styles (jewelcrafting, for example, or enchanting), and on the other hand, you can learn crafts that offer items specifically for your specialization and role, which are the best you can create in the respective slot for a long time.
In this guide, we want to focus on the latter professions and tell you which professions are especially recommended for which classes.
Thanks to the beta and a post from Blizzard, we now know better what to expect from the professions in Phase 1 of WoW (buy now ): Burning Crusade Classic can expect. We have therefore updated the article once again.
TBC Classic: Is leatherworking mandatory for drumming?
Even back then, Progress guilds in Sunwell Plateau specifically took Leatherworkers to provide the tempo buff for spells, melee and ranged attacks of the Drums of Battle to the entire raid as consistently as possible.
What was only practiced by the very ambitious guilds back then, is now common practice on many TBC private servers. If you click through the squads of the successful raids there, you will find a lot of leather processors. On the one hand, this is certainly due to the fact that players nowadays know better how to get the maximum out of their character, and on the other hand, the difficulty level on many of the realms has been noticeably increased compared to the original.
In TBC Classic, it won’t be quite as crunchy, but at least the developers promised at the WoW panel at BlizzCon that many boss mitigations that came into the game during the course of TBC won’t be active at launch. At the same time, the designers are making adjustments to drums for TBC Classic that will prevent at least 20 out of 25 players from skilling Leatherworking just to be able to provide drums.
Adjustment number 1: At the beginning of TBC Classic, Leatherworking will only be able to create the following drums:
- Drums of Battle
- Drums of War
- Drums of tempo
- Drums of Restoration
- Drums of Panic
These have a range of only eight meters. The new “Great Drums” versions are not scheduled to come into play until Phase 4.
Adjustment number 2: All drums not only provide affected players with their respective buffs, but also with the Tinnitus effect, which prevents them from benefiting from a drum effect again for two minutes. In other words, if you take one leatherworker per group, that’s already enough to ensure the maximum effect of the drums (at least if he doesn’t die in battle).
TBC Classic: The best profession for warlocks
For all warlocks who focus on PvE, there is one craft they can’t avoid: Tailoring. This is because they can use the fabrics to craft several sets at once, which will carry them all the way into Tier 5 or even Tier 6 content.
Shadow Twine Tailoring (for more shadow damage)
- Ice Shadow Twine Robe
- Ice shadow twist shoulders
- Ice Shadow Twine Boots
Set Bonus (3): Your Frost and Shadow damage spells will heal you for 2% of the damage done.
Spell Fabric Tailoring (for more fire damage)
- Spell Fire Robe
- Spell Fire Gloves
- Spell Fire Belt
Set Bonus (3): Your spell damage is increased by 7% of your total Intelligence.
Can be made by all tailor experts
Hood of Spell Strike / Pants of Spell Strike (Bonus only active with 350+ Tailoring: Gives your damaging spells a chance to increase the damage of your spells and effects by 92 for 10 sec).
First, the sets are demon strong because they provide you with lots of spell damage, spell critical hit rating, spell hit rating, and numerous socket slots. Secondly, you want to benefit from the 2 bonus of the spell strike set in particular for a very, very long time.
To categorize: in Tier 4, you want to combine the Spell Strike Set with two parts of the Tier 4 Set to activate one of the following bonuses:
- 2 parts: Your Shadow spells have a chance to grant 135 additional Shadow damage for 15 sec.
- 2 parts: Your fire spells have a chance to increase the damage you do by 135 fire damage for 15 sec.
To do this, you then grab individual parts of the spell cloth or shadow twine sets where possible. You can’t take the 3 bonus this way, but the individual pieces are also stronger on their own than other options. So strong, in fact, that Destruction Warlocks can easily do without the Tier 5 set (if they aren’t tanking Leotheras with a Soul Link playstyle).
Only the Tier 6 set is then an upgrade again thanks to the 4 bonus. Then you also get access to new recipes like the Sunfire Robe.
TBC Classic: The best profession for mages
What is true for warlocks, we can write almost the same for all mages. Level up Tailoring and build depending on your skill
Shadow Twine Tailoring (for more Frost damage)
- Ice Shadow Twine Robe
- Ice shadow twine shoulders
- Ice shadow twine boots
Set Bonus (3): Your Frost and Shadow damage spells heal you for 2% of the damage you do.
Spell Fabric Tailoring (for more fire and arcane damage)
- Spell Fire Robe
- Spell Fire Gloves
- Spell Fire Belt
Set Bonus (3): Your spell damage is increased by 7% of your total Intelligence.
Can be made by all tailor experts
Hood of Spell Strike / Pants of Spell Strike (Bonus only active with 350+ Tailoring: Gives your damaging spells a chance to increase the damage of your spells and effects by 92 for 10 sec).
Since Frost is only competitive at the beginning of the TBC era and you should switch to Fire and Arcane, respectively, sooner or later, we recommend the spell fabric specialization. Also note that the 2 bonus from the Tier 4 set is not as strong as the Warlock counterpart. On the other hand, keep in mind the 2 bonus from the Tier 5 set, because that alone makes Arcane suddenly very sexy for all mages.
TBC-Classic: The best profession for warriors
As a protection warrior, we recommend engineering, as we did for Classic. The Panzatronic goggles from Phase 2 are really good, plus the explosive gimmicks help you build threat on multiple targets.
Meanwhile, if you have an offensive mindset, you should master Blacksmithing and focus on one of the weapon specializations:
Mace Specialization
Dragon Strike (for Furor)
Messenger of the Storm (for Weapons – PvP)
Sword specialization
- Lionheart’s Righteous Blade (for Weapons – PvE)
- Note: The weapons can be upgraded twice during the TBC era and remain enormously strong.
TBC-Classic: The best profession for druids
Equilibrium druids follow the example of warlocks and mages and get the following sets:
Spell Fabric Tailoring (for more fire and arcane damage)
- Spell fire robe
- Spell fire gloves
- Spell fire belt
Set Bonus (3): Your spell damage is increased by 7% of your total Intelligence.
Can be made by all tailor experts
Hood of Spell Strike / Pants of Spell Strike (Bonus only active with 350+ Tailoring: Grants your damaging spells a chance to increase the damage of your spells and effects by 92 for 10 sec).
Tailoring is also a strong choice for all Restoration Druids, as it gives them access to the following sets:
- Mooncloth Tailoring
- Primal Mooncloth Robe
- Urmond Fabric Shoulders
- Urmond Fabric Belt
Set Bonus (3): 5% of your mana regeneration remains while casting the spell.
Can be made by all tailor experts
White Healer’s Hood / White Healer’s Pants (Bonus only active with 350+ Tailoring: Increases healing by up to 10% of your total Intelligence)
Most feral druids, meanwhile, will go for leatherworking, because with this profession they can make themselves several good starter sets (like the “Power of Grudge Hooves” set for Bears), useful armor enhancements for pants, but also some great epics. Here are some examples:
- Flinching Shoulders
- Boots of total darkness
- Armor of sun and shadow
TBC Classic: The best profession for paladins
Protective paladins are very good at tanking groups of enemies by design, so they don’t get as much out of engineering as tanking warriors. Still, the grenades help build up a lot of initial aggro right off the pull, allowing warlocks and mages to start bombing almost immediately. The epic goggles from Phase 2 are a strong option for them as well, though, plus useful trinkets with lots of stamina.
Alternatively (or additionally), you should consider enchanting to give your rings Formula: Ring – Spell Power. This will increase your aggro build. Last but not least, blacksmithing is also exciting. Not because of the weapons (unless you want to play Retribution from time to time, see below), but because of the boot recipes that become available in Tier 5. The tank plate boots Boots of the Protector are really good.
Retribution Paladins, meanwhile, definitely want the best two-handed weapon possible, and they get that via blacksmithing:
- Mace Specialization
- Messenger of the Storm (for PvP)
- Sword specialization
Lionheart’s Blade (for PvE)
As for the Holy Paladin, you can also consider Tailoring to make the White Healer parts and the Mooncloth set. Keep in mind, however, that your Paladin will benefit less from the sets than the other healing specializations. It simply lacks critical spell hit chance, so you will replace the items comparatively quickly.
Alternatively, we can recommend enchanting for the ring enchantments. If you’re planning for the long term, you should also consider alchemy, because at some point you’ll be able to upgrade your alchemist stone to the strong alchemist stone of the Redeemer.
TBC Classic: The best profession for rogues
As a rogue, you have several options. You could, like most other melee fighters, go for blacksmithing to build the one-handed sword Blazing Fury (but there are good alternatives via reputation or loot). Or you can go for engineering, for the Deathmaker Goggles X11 from Phase 2, and you can also use the grenades and dynamite sticks to increase your area damage.
Of course, thanks to the equipment mentioned above (and the drums), leatherworking is also a solid choice. And in the long run, even Jewelcrafting can pay off if you’re allowed to craft items like Choker of Hardkhorium, Figurine – Shadow Sangpanther, or the Ribbon of Hardkhorium.
TBC Classic: The best profession for hunters
No class equips for raiding as easily as the hunter. Get four pieces of the blue “Wild Animal Lords” dungeon set, which grants you the following bonus when you get four pieces:
- Every time you use your ‘Barrel’ ability, your attacks ignore 600 armor of your victim for 15 sec.
This bonus is so strong that you will want to use the set for a very long time. Therefore, especially for the start of the TBC era, Leatherworking is not too interesting for you. Because of the drums and the later epics, you can still choose the profession, of course. On balance, however, we rate engineering even more highly – due to the bull’s-eye goggles v2.0 from phase 2, the manufacturable ammunition, and the ranged weapon scopes.
TBC Classic: The best profession for shamans
For Shaman, your choice once again depends on your specialization. Reinforcement Shamans definitely want to learn the Mace specialization, for Dragon Strike. By the way, in the beginning you can only carry the weapon once in TBC Classic, in your main hand. However, by the last stage at the latest, you should be able to use the upgraded mace twice, at least that was the case back in TBC.
Unlike the other offensive spellcasters, Elemental Shamans can’t do anything with the Tailoring sets. You’ll get the most out of the usual suspects of leatherworking (drums and single craftable epics), enchanting (ring enchantments), or jewelcrafting (better jewels).
Restoration shamans are a different story; they benefit tremendously from Tailoring healer sets in the beginning. Take another look:
- Mooncloth Tailoring
- Primal Mooncloth Robe
- Urmond Fabric Shoulders
- Urmond Fabric Belt
Set Bonus (3): 5% of your mana regeneration remains while casting the spell.
Can be made by all tailor experts
White Healer’s Hood / White Healer’s Pants (Bonus only active with 350+ Tailoring: Increases healing by up to 10% of your total Intelligence).
TBC Classic: The best profession for priests
When it comes to priests, we don’t have to think long: All specializations should bring Tailoring to the maximum.
Shadow Twine Tailoring (for Shadow Priests)
- Ice Shadow Twine Robe
- Ice Shadow Twine Shoulders
- Ice Shadow Twine Boots
Set Bonus (3): Your Frost and Shadow damage spells heal you for 2% of the damage dealt.
Craftable by all Tailor experts (for Shadow Priests)
Hood of Spell Strike / Pants of Spell Strike (Bonus only active with 350+ Tailoring: Grants your damaging spells a chance to increase the damage of your spells and effects by 92 for 10 sec.)
Mooncloth Tailoring (for healing priests)
- Primal Mooncloth Robe
- Primal Mooncloth Shoulders
- Urmond Fabric Belt
Set Bonus (3): 5% of your mana regeneration remains while casting the spell.
Can be made by all tailor experts (for healing priests)
White Healer’s Hood / White Healer’s Pants (Bonus only active with 350+ Tailoring: Increases healing by up to 10% of your total Intelligence).
TBC Classic: The best professions for PvP
If you’re primarily into PvP, many of the craftable pieces of equipment will quickly lose value. The reason: You want to accumulate as much hardening as possible with most specializations and therefore wear PvP armor.
However, there are two exceptions: a) if you can craft a very good weapon through a profession, stick with that profession, b) the epic engineering goggles from Phase 2 are really strong for PvP. The reason:
Create: slightly increases stealth detection.
Especially in the arena there will be so many rogues and druids around that this bonus is worth its weight in gold. By the way, you can’t use many other engineer items in the arena. However, you can still get the full potential out of the profession in Open PvP as well as in the Battlegrounds – similar to Classic.
Another useful profession for PvP is Enchanting. The exclusive ring enchantments will give you a nice stats boost in any situation.
What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access to WoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
