WoW: TBC Classic – Hunters rock phase 1, villains and druids with red DpS lantern

The first few weeks of WoW: Burning Crusade Classic are over and we want to take a look at how well or poorly the DpS specialists did in Karazhan, Gruul’s Lair, and Magtheridon’s Chamber. Spoilers: Hunters rock Phase 1, rogues don’t have it easy at the moment.

WoW: Burning Crusade Classic is now more than three weeks old and there are plenty of players who have jumped into the challenges of the first phase of the raid. But which DpS specialists have been particularly convincing in Karazhan, Gruul’s Hoard, and Magtheridon’s Chamber? Which classes disappoint when it comes to raw damage numbers? And to what extent do the current statistics differ from the observations we summarized a few months ago in the article WoW: TBC Classic – who rocks, who sucks?

WoW: TBC Classic – Alliance or Horde?
In WoW Classic, the Alliance clearly dominated the raid event in all phases. For example, of the 50 fastest guilds in Naxxramas from Phase 6, only 17 belong to the Horde. Only one Horde guild is represented in the top 10. The reason: Paladins. And also in general, the majority of the players who were hanging out in the belonged to the Alliance.

However, with TBC Classic, the Alliance has lost this crucial advantage: paladins and shamans are available for both factions. At the same time, some Horde races have extremely strong racial abilities. Just take the boiling blood of the orcs, which in TBC not only increases attack power, but also spell damage. Or the speed buff of the Trolls through Berserk. Or the Blood Elves’ Stream, which they can use to silence enemies and regenerate mana.

As a result, some ambitious progression guilds have switched sides, and overall Ironforge.pro records more raid logs from Horde players than Alliance players (54 percent versus 46 percent). And the Horde clearly dominates the speedruns as well – here are the stats for Gruul and Magtheridon: Gruul’s top 5 consists entirely of Horde raids, while Magtheridon has an Alliance guild in fourth place. The rest of the top 10, however, is colored red.

WoW: TBC Classic – The best and worst DpS specialists in Karazhan
Let’s now take a look at the DpS stats from Karazhan. The picture after three weeks largely corresponds to the observations from the private servers:

Beast Mastery Hunters are extremely strong when it comes to single target damage.
All three Warlock skills can be used to achieve high damage levels in Karazhan in Phase 1.
Mages continue to be among the best DpS specialists. Arcane, in particular, performs surprisingly well in Phase 1. The mana-intensive playstyle should benefit greatly from the sometimes very short battles.
Elemental Shamans are clearly the strongest DpS hybrid playstyle in Karazhan. As with Shadow Priests, reinforcements can be found in the midfield.
While Warriors and Rogues were classically a DpS power in WoW (buy now), they don’t really get going in Phase 1, as expected. Only Furor lands in the midfield (the Virtuous Maiden is good enough for 3rd place, the Curator and Aran even for 2nd place). For rogues and men-at-arms, the numbers don’t look so good on average.
Revenge Paladins and the two Druid DpS styles mix with the Rogues and Weapon Warriors in the bottom third.
WoW: TBC Classic – The best and worst DpS specialists in Gruul’s Lair
The picture shifts only slightly for the first boss in Gruul’s Lair, where hunters, wizards and mages dominate as well, with shadow priests now cheating their way into the top 5.

WoW TBC Classic – Hunters rock Phase 1, Rogues and Druids with red DpS lantern.

Destruction Warlocks have the highest average damage values on Raufgar.
Beast Lords and Survival Hunters are also on the podium.
Arcane remains the best mage specialization here as well.
Elemental (rank 6) is now well ahead of Reinforcement (rank 14).
Balance Druids storm into the midfield.
In general, melee fighters don’t have much to laugh about here.
If we look at the stats of final boss Gruul, we notice:

The two top hunter specs overtake the Destruction Warlocks.
Fire can keep up with Arcane for the first time thanks to the longer fight duration and forced breaks due to Concussion.
Reinforcement Shamans do surprisingly well in combat (7th place), even outperforming Shadow Priests and fellow Elementals.
Battle Rogues and Wrath Warriors perform mediocre. Frost Mages are just above the level of Revenge Paladins and Assassin Rogues.
WoW: TBC Classic – The Best and Worst DpS Specialists at Magtheridon
There are a few surprises in what is currently perhaps the most difficult raid challenge:

Beastmastery hunters are once again on top, and by a wide margin.
The fact that Demonology Warlocks and Survival Hunters follow in 2nd and 3rd place matches the previous statistics. On the other hand, Wrath Warriors are a rare sight in 4th place.
In general, Magtheridon seems to be a boss that suits melee fighters better. Amplifiers are a few spots ahead of their elemental counterparts, and Revenge Paladins and Battle Rogues also romp around the midfield.
In turn, Affliction Warlocks and Frost Mages are now in the bottom third of Weapon Warriors, Druids, and Assassins and Deception Rogues.
WoW: TBC Classic – How will the picture develop in the next phases?
Based on our own experience and observations on the private servers, we are sure that the DpS structure will change quite a bit over the course of the next phases.

Hunters and Warlocks will remain strong DpS powers overall, although there will still be some good opportunities for Warlocks to use their Corruption Seeds in Tier 5 and Tier 6 content. Destruction should significantly outperform Affliction and Demonology in all tiers.
The already very strong arcane mages can look forward to a massive set bonus in tier 5 content. It might even be enough for the top spot in some fights.
Warriors and rogues will still have a hard time in Tier 5 content, as there are some melee-unfriendly bosses waiting for them. In Tier 6 content, however, the picture will change. The two classes scale extremely well with equipment, the Illidan glaives provide a noticeable boost, and the important stats Speed, Weapon Expertise, and Armor Penetration can now be increased even more efficiently. The fight for the top positions will be extremely exciting in the final phase!
Hybrid playstyles like Shadow Priests, Elemental/Amp Shamans, and Vengeful Paladins don’t scale quite as well with improved gear and will lose spots as the levels progress.

World of Warcraft (WoW)

The online role-playing game World of Warcraft (WoW) was released in Europe in 2005 and is an MMO with a subscription payment model. In WoW, players can complete tasks with their characters to improve their hero and meet like-minded players. There are thirteen different races to choose from when selecting a character – six of which belong to only one faction each – as well as eleven classes. In World of Warcraft, players have the opportunity to join the Horde or the Alliance, complete missions and quests with their character in the rich world, and adventure with other heroes in instanced areas for five, ten, and even 25 players. In addition, characters can take up professions, collect pets and mounts, compete against opposing players in battlegrounds and arenas, or simply unwind in the main cities and chat with their guildmates.
