Phase 2 of WoW: Burning Crusade Classic gives us access to the bosses in the Serpentshrine Cave, and among them is one of the most difficult boss challenges in WoW history: Lady Vashj. Here are clear guides to the six bosses and the most dangerous trash opponents.
With phase 2 of WoW: Burning Crusade Classic the guilds of the
Outland are finally going full throttle into raid mode. While Karazhan, Gruul’s Lair, and Magtheridon’s Chamber were easily digestible warm-up snacks for many communities, the new challenges in the Caverns of the Serpentshrine and the Eye of the Fortress of Storms are much crisper.
In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the raid instance in the Zanga Marshes, including tips and tricks for the fights against Hydross, the Horror of the Deep, Leotheras, Morogrim, Karathress and the final boss Lady Vashj. If you are looking for guides to the Eye in the Fortress of Storms, you will find them here.
How to gain access to the Serpent Shrine
Once you have a respectable reputation with the Circle of Cenarius, you can initiate the attunement for the Serpentshrine Cave. Visit Nar’iss the Heretic in his prison in the Heroic Slave Lodgings and accept from him the quest The Cudgel of Kar’desh. And what should you do? Well…
- Get the Flame Seal from the Terror of the Night in Karazhan
- Get the Earth Seal from Gruul in Gruul’s Lair
Already by submitting the quest in the Heroic Slave Lodgings, you will gain access to the Serpentshrine Cave. The entrance to the raid instance is located between the Deep Swamp and the Steam Chamber. Once inside, a very deep shaft awaits you, which you’d better not fall down. An elevator will take you down safely. Run up the corridor and the ramp until you reach walkways where the first trash groups are waiting for you. The first boss, Hydross the Unsteady, is also already in sight. Are you ready to lead the raid through the Serpentshrine? Then let’s get going.
Raid composition and preparation
We already dealt with the optimal raid setup for phase 2 in a separate article, so here are just the most important key points:
You can expect large trash groups and bosses, some of which require you to control numerous adds. A protection paladin helps enormously in these situations.
- For Hydross, your raid will need a tank with as much Nature Resistance as possible and a tank with as much Frost Resistance as possible. Depending on your strategy, you will still need one or two add tanks, with some nature and frost resistance.
- With a more ranged-heavy setup, you’ll have an easier time fighting Hydross, the Horror from the Deep, and Leotheras.
- Pack several fighters, whose misdirection makes pulls and aggro-sensitive phase transitions easier.
- For Leotheras, you’ll need a player with as much fire resistance as possible. A warlock is a particularly good choice.
