The 4th – Season of WoW: Shadowlands held some nerfs for the previous meta classes of the Mythic-Plus dungeons at the start. However, the first figures of the new – Season show that the nerfs have had little effect. The same classes and play styles continue to dominate.
The 4th – Season of Shadowlands is no longer so much about competitive gameplay, but rather about making the waiting time until the release of WoW: Dragonflight as entertaining as possible with lots of fun. This might be one of the reasons why the Fateful Raids have been kept so simple in terms of difficulty. The Mythic-Plus dungeons, on the other hand, didn’t fare as well. The new, old dungeons are fun, but in places they are certainly harder than the developers intended.
Especially in terms of balancing, the Blizzard developers still have some work to do. And not only because some dungeons are significantly harder than others, but also because some classes are much stronger than others. The bitter part is that the same classes dominate again.
Nerfs fizzle out
With the start of – Season 4 of WoW : Shadowlands, the developers have given decent nerfs to both the Destruction Warlock and the Survival Hunter. If the plan was to bring them up to the level of the other classes and playstyles with this, it can only be called a failure. As before, the two specs dominate the Mythic-Plus dungeons almost at will.
At least, this is revealed by the new tier lists that are regularly compiled by subcreation.org. In them, the operators look at many thousands of Mythic-Plus runs and analyze which classes and playstyles are how successful on the high keystones (level 16 and up). The exact analysis is very extensive and complex.
In the end, the playstyles are then divided into six categories. These tiers give a rough impression of which class performs how well. Of course, personal skill plays the bigger role, but some specs are simply stronger than others.
- When it comes to tanks, it’s clear to see what most players probably feel the same way. Death knights are in a league of their own and clearly, clearly stronger than all other classes. Guardian Druids, on the other hand, fall off and can’t keep up with the rest.
- The picture is similar for healers. Here, too, most play styles are very close to each other, while the Holy Priests are the glaring outlier upwards and the Diszis the glaring outlier downwards.
- When it comes to the Melees, the Survival Hunters remain the measure of all things. Only the outlaw rogues can halfway keep up, but are still inferior to them. The rest of the specs are spread across the board in all tiers.
- And there’s no change at the top of the ranged fighters either. Destruction Witch Masters clearly dominate all other ranks. Fire Mage and Demonology Wizard follow with some respect distance behind. All others more or less look down the tube.
With the coming weeks and other affixes, one or the other could still change, but we will not see really big shifts without the intervention of the developers. The question remains: How important is the balancing within the classes in the 4th – Season of WoW: Shadowlands?
