Blizzcon 2017 is coming – and in all likelihood we will see the announcement of the next WoW addon there. Our author Jan Michelsen has had enough of the Legion and is ready to sail into new waters. In his column, he explains why the suitcase is already packed for departure.
Oh my World of Warcraft , which port are you heading to next? Yes, I’m in the mood! Embark on a new journey! Ready for new adventures, new heroes and adversaries . On hopefully new ideas from Blizzard and in general and in general. But why? Opinion on a new expansion is divided even in the editorial office, as Sara impressively demonstrated in her column last week . That’s not the case for me at all, although I’ve been really bored with World of Warcraft for a few weeks and I actually have every reason to freeze my subscription and wait and see. The anticipation is still great – and I’ll tell you why.
WoW: Legion Green? New color please!
Honestly? I can’t see the green of the legion anymore, I’m getting fed up with all the meanies and demons. How so? Because this topic has been with us for ages.
In Warlords of Draenor, the last raid in Hellfire Citadel was something of a pre-Legion raid. And since then everything has been green, green and green again. There is no area in the Broken Isles that is not affected by this intrusive color. The Legion annoys me. Although there was a nice counter-draft with the nightmare at the beginning, it was eaten up extremely quickly. No matter where the journey in the new addon goes – I’m rid of the color and everything associated with it for now. Hooray!
WoW: Old Gods? That must be awesome!
We still don’t know exactly what’s actually going on in the new addon, but many “experts” predict the appearance of at least one old god in connection with the void. Does that mean fun at the same time? For me yes, because whenever an old god made an appearance, my favorite MMO was really cool. C’Thun in vanilla was great, although Ahn’Qiraj is one of the – for me – most undemanding raids of all time. But it was just the beginning. In Wrath of the Lich King , on the other hand, we not only took on Arthas, but also Yogg-Saron in Ulduar. And the last big encounter we had in Mist of Pandariawith Y’Shaarj and the dopey Garrosh Hellscream. What can I say? MoP and WotLK are my absolute favorite expansions. A new contact with the ancient gods can only be great.
WoW: Hopefully the seriousness is over
Maybe I’m wrong, but I think things got pretty serious after Mist of Pandaria. If there was still a good deal of looseness and fun with the pandas, be it with the farmers and Chen Stormbräu, or the rather funny fight between Alliance and Horde, it got quite serious in Warlords of Draenor and also Legion. Is it over with the new addon? The chances are not bad, after all, the South Seas are under discussion and with it pirates. What speaks against a fun drink or similar crazy things? It doesn’t have to be just a fun event.
I also expect less weight from the bosses there. We’ve already dealt with the eternal villains like Gul’dan and Kil’jaeden. On the other hand, I found Xavius very refreshing – even if the theme was a bit neglected. However, Blizzard simply needs to take it down a notch, because by now we as players are so overpowered that we’re not only killing Legion leaders, but even going into battle against Titans. How can you top that? Empty Lords? “I don’t think so, Tim!” A little recollection and fewer overpowered opponents would be a balm – and the odds are probably not bad.
I could probably continue this list forever, but now it’s your turn! What are you looking forward to in the new expansion? Drop us a line in the comments and read more specials and news from Blizzard
