WoW Guide: Weekly Quests in Icecrown Citadel

Since patch 3.3.2, there is a new weekly quest in Icecrown Citadel that you can complete once a week. There are a total of five different quests to complete, one of which will be randomly selected for your party each week. Depending on which quest is available, the quest giver will appear at different points along your path through the citadel. We’ll explain what to look for in each of the “weeklys”:

Deprogramming :
The quest giver of the first possible quest waits to the left of the entrance to Lady Deathwhisper’s Oratory. In the course of this quest, during the fight with the first wave of enemies, the NPC Darnavan will appear and attack you. Put him in a separate tank to keep him busy outside the group. The goal is to kill the Death Whisperer and make sure Darnavan survives. Darnavan doesn’t hit particularly hard, but has disruptive warrior abilities like Counterstrike, Blade Storm, and Menacing Scream. Once you’ve defeated the boss and thus brought the NPC back to his senses, you return the completed quest to the quest giver. Alternatively, you can hire a druid to root the NPC on a regular basis.

Securing the Bulwark :
Once you have defeated Lady Deathwhisper, take the elevator to the top. There you will find a small group of Horde and Alliance NPCs fighting each other. Defeat the enemies of the enemy faction and wait for a moment. If you are lucky, a quest giver will come running and ask you to kill a Frost Giant. Kill the enemies on the northern part of the Citadel Wall Loop until you come across the Rotting Frost Giant. Before you attack him, make sure you have enough space.

Combat Procedure: The tank positions the giant so that it has its back to the raid and is facing the wall. This way, the tank will not be thrown away by the giant’s blows. The ranged fighters form camps of two players in a semicircle behind the giant. Each camp is a little more than eight meters apart. Close combatants should also always line up in pairs behind the boss. The reason for this positioning is the death plague that the giant keeps infecting individual players with. 15 seconds after the plague expires, it spreads to all nearby players and inflicts 8000 points of natural damage. If the plague fails to infect a player, the affected person dies immediately. Also, all players will be repeatedly hit by stomps during the battle. Once you have killed the Frost Giant, return to the quest giver who will have your reward ready for you.

Wandering Host :
The quest giver for this quest is waiting in the Upper Spire of the Citadel after you send the Deathbringer Saurfang to the Ancestors. For this quest, you must return to the quest giver with one debuff each of Redface and Redgut. The difficulty is that at least one raid member must be afflicted with both debuffs – the orange rot residue and the green rot residue. However, they disappear upon death or through effects such as Cloak of Shadows, Divine Protection, or Ice Block. If you’re not sure you can defeat both monstrosities on the first try, it’s best to start with the one that’s harder for your party to defeat. With Rot, you will automatically receive the debuff during the battle. To get the debuff from Modermiene, you must be hit by its ability Slime Spray. After defeating both constructs, a raid member with both debuffs will return to the quest giver and speak with him. After that, the entire raid can turn in the quest there as well.

Raised Blood :
If the quest giver for your week is waiting to the left of the entrance to the Blood Wing, the entire raid should gather outside the entrance. The objective of the quest is to defeat the Blood Queen Lana’thel within 30 minutes of attacking the wing’s first group of enemies. Before that, however, you’ll have to get past some trash groups and the Council of Blood. Therefore, make sure that the raid is optimally buffed to get past these enemies quickly and without dying if possible. If you die, don’t give up – there’s usually plenty of time, even if you wipe once or twice. Once you dethrone the queen, the spy Minchar is free and rewards you for saving him.

Peace for a Wounded Soul :
This quest is given to you by none other than Valithria Dreamwalker herself, after you rescue her from the clutches of the Scourge. She tasks you with retrieving the Crystalline Essence from Sindragosa. Of course, you’ll have to do something special in return: If Sindragosa drops below 20 percent of your health during the boss fight, you must take the Crystalline Essence that Valithria gave you along the way. When you channel the crystal’s spell, Sindragosa gains a stackable buff. When you die, there must be at least 30 (10-player version) or 75 (25-player version) stacks on the Dragon Queen. But you have to be careful, because you only have ten seconds per new charge to keep increasing the stacks on the boss. When you reach the required number of charges on the boss, she will receive a new buff. If she dies while wearing this buff, you can recover the crystalline essence from her remains and bring it to the Wyrmrest Temple.

The reward for your efforts:

Of course, there’s more than just a “thank you” when you turn in the quests. In addition to 29 gold pieces and 350 reputation points, you’ll also receive a bag of frosty treasures. In it you will always find some gold pieces as well as five frost tokens. You also have a small chance of finding an epic gem inside. If you are really lucky, you will even get one of the random epic items that you can capture from the trash enemies or bosses in the citadel. For example, these can be the following items:

  • Mark’gar’s Cold Eye
  • Armor of the Forgotten Kings
  • Vodin’s Lucky Necklace
  • Ikfirus’ Bag of Wonders
