WoW: Guide to Gundrak

The WoW instance Gundrak is located in the northeast of the Zul’Drak region in Northrend. The fastest way to reach the troll capital is from the neutral base Zim’Torga. The quest givers for Gundrak can be found just before Gundrak on the left side of the road.

Gundrak in Zul’drak in Northrend is one of the dungeons from Wrath of the Lich King that will become available in WoW Patch 6.2 via the Time Migration event. Since your characters will be scaled down to level 80 for the duration of the instance visit, Gundrak actually plays like it did back then. The only difference is that you’ll have more abilities at your disposal. We have only made rudimentary changes to our guide to the dungeon, as it has not lost its validity despite the time migration. We wish you a lot of fun!

The standard enemies and the way through the instance
Gundrak is symmetrically structured. At the ends of the horseshoe-shaped ring and in the center of the complex are the three bosses. Behind them you’ll find manipulable pedestals that open the way to the final boss, Gal’darah. On each side of the instance there is an entrance. Choose the path that is closer to the summoning stone. This way you’ll quickly meet the snake boss Slad’ran, who is located in the room right at the bottom of the stairs. Before that, however, you’ll need to take out the three groups of enemies in the reptile-infested room. The groups, each consisting of three snakes, should be easy to take out one after the other – using transformation or sleep magic if necessary.

After this little warm-up, turn your attention to Slad’ran. Don’t forget to use the Drakkari Pod after the boss fight. Then follow the path to the edge of a large pile of bones. Pull the first enemies into the room behind you to avoid being disturbed by the patrols. In addition to the familiar groups of snakes, the first challenge awaits you here. The Drakkari medicine men are healing, interrupt their spells and kill them first.

In the room in front of the second platform, you will face the living Drakkari mojo and golems. Carefully pull the enemies towards you, because the golems in particular hit hard and can take a lot of punishment. If you have a warlock in your party, you can also banish one of the mojo elementals. Then face the drakkari colossus. On the way to the next boss, you run the risk of being thrown into the abyss. Two new enemy types, the Drakkari Fireweavers and the giant Drakkari Earthshakers, like to push you around. Also, you’ll be fighting on a narrow path bordered by rocks on the left and only a chasm on the right. Always stand so that your back is to the wall.

Watch out for the patrols and, as before, take out the medicine men first. Right in front of Moorabi, you will encounter a group with two Earthshakers. Don’t let them throw you into the boss or he will attack you immediately. A low tunnel leads from Moorabi’s room to the wild corner water pool, which only appears in the heroic variant of the instance. However, the small fish people on the way to it have nothing to oppose you except for a light poison attack. After all the sockets have been activated, the way to Gal’darah is clear. Before that, however, some Drakkari warrior riders and their rhinos have to be defeated. It’s best to start with the riders. Make sure no party member loses too much health, as your enemies will cast Silence and your healer may not be able to absorb damage spikes.

Bosses in Gundrak
Slad’ran
The snake boss Slad’ran does not enter the battle alone. He summons Slad’ran Vipers and Slad’ran Stranglers to his aid, and they can be quite dangerous to you. So kill them with area damage while the tank keeps the boss busy off the path. If Slad’ran’s companions hit you too often, you’ll get the debuff “Slad’ran’s Grasp”. You will then be cocooned and will need to be freed from the cocoon by your teammates. Once the creeps are out of the way, you can get back to taking care of the boss. Keep your distance during Poison Nova to avoid taking unnecessary damage.

Drakkari Colossus

At the beginning of the battle, the Drakkari Colossus merges with the elementals at its side. The colossus itself has no special abilities. However, as soon as you reduce its health by half, the elementals reappear – but as a single, giant water monster. The tank immediately takes care of the elemental. You don’t need to worry about the Colossus at this stage, because it doesn’t move and can’t be attacked. In order for the elemental not to finish you off quickly, you should not stand in a line. That way, the “maelstrom” won’t hit you too hard, as the attack spreads in waves. Also, avoid the “mojo puddles” on the ground. Once the elemental unites with the colossus, the tank will taunt to attract attention.

Moorabi Before
Before the battle begins, agree on who will prevent the boss Moorabi from transforming into a mammoth during the fight through kicks or silence effects. This is because if the troll turns into a woolly quadruped, it will cause more damage to the group. Also, mind-altering poisons and a wizard’s “Curse of Tongues” will help you better anticipate the transformation. Note: The casting time of the transformation gets shorter and shorter the less health Moorabi has, so it’s very likely towards the end that you’ll suddenly be facing a mammoth. Also, because of the Stunning Scream and Earthquake abilities, your healer should make sure to heal all comrades-in-arms in time so you don’t lose any heroes.

Gal’darah
The final boss Gal’darah will make your life difficult with some nasty abilities. At the beginning of the fight, he hits you with a stampede that not only deals damage, but also knocks the target back. Just dodge the boss’s “swirling blows”. From time to time, Gal’darah turns into a rhino and then impales players on his horn. He also throws a tantrum, which is best dealt with immediately by rogues or hunters. Impaling itself does relatively little damage, but becomes dangerous if the healer is fidgeting on the horn – because it can’t heal for more than ten seconds. In this case, the tank must use like Shield Wall or Frozen Valor to survive Gal’darah’s damage.

Heroic Tactics
Slad’ran
The tactics to kill the snake on the Heroic difficulty don’t change much. Again, pay special attention to your healer and make sure he is not surrounded by snakes. Since the “Poison Nova” does a lot more damage, you can quickly lose your comrades-in-arms once the healer is incapacitated.

Colossus of the Drakkari
Even with the heroic version of the Colossus, you should be careful not to line up and avoid the puddles. An unfortunate combination of “suction” and “mojo puddle” will quickly cost you your life here.

Moorabi

In the heroic version of the fight against Moorabi, you should definitely prevent the boss from turning into a mammoth. This is because it not only gives you an achievement for doing so, but also prevents Moorabi from having a significantly higher damage output. Should the mammoth appear, Moorabi will gladly take two players by the horns. So have healing potions ready. If need be, a paladin tank or shadow priest will also need to unpack a healing spell if your main healer has been impaled.

Gal’darah
Gal’darah is a fearsome opponent. Avoid Whirling Blows at all costs, as the ability itself does a lot of damage, especially in the Heroic version of the fight – but the debuff that stacks up is even more annoying. Combined with “Pierce”, slashing can quickly become deadly. Also, spread something around the room to avoid “Stomping”.

The wild
Eck You’ll meet the wild Eck in his chamber behind Moorabi’s room – but only in the heroic version of the instance. Tank Eck with your back to the party so that damage classes and healers don’t get hit by Eck Spit. When the boss casts Corner Spit (one second cast time), the healer should make sure to target Eck, as he will take some damage. Just before he dies, the boss does more damage from Frenzy, so finish him off as quickly as possible.
