WoW Guide: The Cauldron of Blood

On the Hellfire Peninsula in Outland, WoW heroes will find the Cauldron of Blood, which is intended for players of levels 61 to 63. You can find and for the instance in our guide.

The Blood Furnace is the second five-player instance in Hellfire Citadel and is harder in difficulty than Hellfire Bulwark. It is best suited for experienced level 60 warriors; the two most important supports, the tank and the healer, should be well equipped to very good. There are only two quests in the Blood Furnace that can be quickly solved (see The Maker sidebar).

The opponents

First you’ll meet the Laughing Skull Enforcers, who don’t pose much of a challenge. Three groups follow, each consisting of two Shadowmoon Adepts and a Hellfire Idiot. You should take out the elves quickly, as they do the most damage with their fireballs (up to 1,100 fire damage). The Enforcers and Adepts, on the other hand, hit only half-heartedly and are tanked by a Warrior or taken out of combat with a Sheep and then finished off by default. The enforcers occasionally cast SHIELD BLOW on the targeted player, removing healing spells over time, for example. Impatient players need to beware: Sneaky and stealthy orc rogues appear out of nowhere in many parts of the instance, hitting their victim fast and hard. In addition, they also harm players with a poison effect (200 natural damage per tick). Therefore, always stay with your party when traversing the instance so that you can react quickly and unitedly to the insidious rogues. This is especially true after a wipe, as the orc rogues will reappear after a short time. As you progress through the instance, you will encounter groups of summoners, warlocks, and technicians. Summoners occasionally summon a companion (succubus or devil hunter), warlocks throw shadow lightning and technicians throw sticks of dynamite. Always kill the caster classes first. A warlock or summoner usually patrols between these groups. These can only be taken out individually with great skill. Mage counterspells or the hunter’s new shot, SUPPRESSIVE SHOT, are particularly good for this. In the room of the first boss, the Creator, there are three groups of two and two patrols. Pull off each group one at a time or it will be tricky. Once the room is clear of enemies, the fight against the Creator can begin (see the sidebar “The Creator”).

Continue to Broggok

After the fight against the Creator, be careful – don’t rush into the next room! A cloaked rogue lurks in the hallway to the left of the three-man orc group of enforcers and technicians, and a two-man patrol also marches by at short intervals. Watch out for the patrol, pull the three orcs to you in the creator’s room, and only now enchant an enemy into a sheep with the TRANSFORMATION! It is very common for the sheep enchantment to break just as the patrol passes, quickly ending with a wipe. Once you have mastered the task, you will encounter more groups of enforcers and technicians in the next passage. Beware of Fel Orcs: the elite variety deals high melee damage. Enforcers patrol between the next groups of warlocks and summoners. Be careful: enemy wizards will stop moving if you don’t silence them. If a patrol gets close, they will intervene in the fight!

Broggok’s room

Once you’ve cleared Broggok’s room of enemies, the boss fight doesn’t start until you flip the lever in front of the gate. Then the four cages on the sides will open in a certain order (see map), each releasing four orcs on you. As soon as the last enemy in a group dies, the next gate opens. The number of elite enemies and thus the difficulty level increases steadily.

Tips for fighting Broggok

Tip 1: Temporarily disable as many orcs as possible with FREEZE TRAP or TRANSFORMATION. Elite opponents should ALWAYS be turned into a sheep.

Tip 2: If you run into mana problems during the fight, the mage simply keeps turning the last orc in a group into a sheep. This will prevent the next group from attacking, and your group can regenerate mana, heal with bandages or potions, and use special abilities like EVOLUTION or mana totems if needed. When the last enemy falls, the gate opens and it’s Broggok’s turn (see the “Broggok” box).

The final boss – Keli’dan

After Broggok, you will encounter wizards accompanied by elves – use area magic. In the following section you will be attacked again by cloaked rogues. They are joined by warlocks with demons and thugs of the field guard. The latter are annoying, as they randomly attack party members, interrupt spells and shots, and stun players. Try to BANISH the demons or lure them into a FREEZE TRAP. In the last room there are five channelers and the final boss Keli’dan (see box). This one is unattackable until the last channeler is dead. To enter the final battle with full health and mana, you can take out the last channeler again with TRANSFORM until everyone is ready. The channelers take very little damage and deal mostly shadow damage; a priest shadow protection buff is mandatory here. Watch out for the MARK OF SHADOWS, though. It must be removed at all costs, as it drastically increases vulnerability to shadow damage. When the last channeler dies, Keli’dan attacks.

The Creator
The Creator is a relatively easy opponent to defeat. Only his EXPLODING BUMPER is a dangerous AE attack and hits the melee with nature damage – here the healer has to stay on the ball. The WILDERNESS ASPECT of the hunter is very helpful.

MIND CONTROL: From time to time, the creator takes control of a player for a short time.

EXPLODING BUMPER:

Deals 1000 to 1200 nature damage to all nearby players.

Broggok
He hits only half-heartedly, but his POISON CLOUD and POISON BOLT inflict great nature damage to players. At least the POISON BLITZ can be removed. With the POISON CLOUD, the tank must constantly change position during the fight to avoid standing in the nasty cloud. Again, the hunter’s ASPECT OF WILDERNESS should be activated.

Skills

POISON BOLT: Damage over time, dealing 350 to 650 nature damage every 3 seconds for 10 seconds. Can be removed.

POISON CLOUD: Ring-shaped poison cloud that deals more than 650 damage per second when caught in it.

Keli’dan
When Keli’dan attacks, the tank must be ready immediately. Keli’dan shoots shadow bolts at all players. When he crouches and utters the words “Come closer!”, you should quickly move away from him, because a few seconds later he summons a powerful area-of-effect damage that deals immense damage. During this short phase, Keli’dan is immune to any damage – use this time to heal or bandage up and don’t waste mana or arrows unnecessarily on attacks that won’t work anyway.

Skills

BAILING: 450 to 550 shadow damage every 3 seconds for 24 seconds.

SHADE MARK: Although cast by channelers and not Keli’dan, it can have a significant impact on Keli’dan combat. Stacks and increases vulnerability to shadow damage. Can and must (!) be removed.

SHADOWFLASH SALVATION: A volley that hits multiple players and deals 900 to 1200 Shadow damage.
