In the course of the world change caused by World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the Scourge in the Western and Eastern Plaguelands was greatly weakened. In Stratholme, however, the undead are more present than ever: even the Crusader Pass is now occupied by Risen Scarlet Crusaders. In our guide to Stratholme, we show you how to turn off the lights on zombies, ghouls and their leaders, and what loot you can get hold of.
Preparation
The Stratholme instance is located in the Eastern Plaguelands and can be roughly divided into two wings: the Crusader Pass and the Gauntlet. You can get to the Crusader Pass through the main entrance in the north-west of the Eastern Plaguelands. You can run the gauntlet through the servants’ entrance at Ostwalltor.
Skul (rar) (1) Make your way
through the skeleton groups and watch out for roaming patchwork horrors. These can knock the tank away, quickly throwing it into one or more additional enemy groups. If you fight such a monstrosity, the tank stands with its back against the wall. Keep left at Königsplatz and look down the dead end street on the left. With luck, Skul, a rare skeleton magician, will be waiting there. Its main abilities consist of Frost and Arcane attacks, which it throws at the tank. Melee fighters also watch out for Skul’s Frost Armor, which reduces their attack speed and movement speed when using a melee attack.
The Unforgiven (2)
Let’s continue north. There is a portcullis in front of you, which you should only enter in a group. Once you are between the two gates, they will lower and a bunch of small rats or insects will attack you. Fight them with splash damage. If you turn right, you will reach a dark passage where you will meet the Unforgiven. First eliminate his ghostly servants and then take care of him. Melee fighters are wary of his Frost Armor, which reduces their attack speed and movement speed. In addition, he repeatedly casts a frost nova that freezes all nearby enemies for a short time.
Timmy the Cruel (2)
Now walk back along Marktgasse until you reach a large archway. To the right of the archway is the ghoul Timmy. He strikes quickly and regularly steals life energy from the tank with his voracious claw. So you need a lot of damage to bring him to his knees. At 50 percent health, Timmy goes into a rage and increases his damage done and attack speed.
Commander Malor (3)
Enter Crusader Square through the archway. Eliminate the opponents on the way to the opposite house and step through the bastion door. Follow the corridors until you see Commander Malor in a small chamber on the left. His ground smasher damages and knocks down all party members. Healers need to be careful as this ability will also interrupt their healing spells. He also casts the Shadow Bolt Volley on the entire group. He occasionally reduces the tank’s stamina with a head cracker.
Willey Hopebreaker (4)
Now you walk straight ahead until you come to another door that you can open. The stairs lead down to the hoard, where Willey Hopebreaker, the master gunner, is next to some groups of opponents. On the left and right side of the combat area are Scarlet Cannons and appropriate ammunition for them. During the fight, snipers will keep appearing at the other end of the corridor, and they will damage the entire group with their shots. A group member grabs the cannonballs and uses the cannon – this is how you take out the snipers. Willey, meanwhile, hits the tank violently and often knocks him back, so the tank should keep him busy with his back to a wall. magic classes pay attention
Instructor Galford (5)
Run back and turn right after going up the stairs. Follow the passage until just before the Crimson Throne where Balnazzar is staying. In the small chamber opposite the entrance to the throne stands Instructor Galford. He deals high damage on the tank with his Pyroblast, so you should interrupt this spell. Its Fire Nova deals Fire damage to all nearby players. In addition, he repeatedly casts burning winds on a random target. The prisoner cannot move or attack for five seconds, but takes high Fire damage.
Balnazzar (6)
Directly opposite, Balnazzar awaits in the Crimson Throne. The huge demon wreaks havoc on the party with fear effects and shadow shocks. He works the tank with mental blows. Again and again he puts individual players into a sleep state or controls their thoughts for eight seconds. If you have opponent control skills available, use them against players you have taken over.
The gauntlet
Baroness Anastari (1)
Right by the Eastwall Gate in the Eastern Plaguelands you will find the servant entrance to Stratholme. There you get directly to the Ältestenplatz and can continue your way to the gauntlet. As soon as you open the gate to the elders’ place within the instance, Magistrate Barthilas reports your intrusion to the baron. Follow him through the portcullises to the north to run the gauntlet. Which direction you take first is up to you. However, we recommend killing Baroness Anastari first, who will be in sight once you open the last portcullis. Fight the undead enemies along the way and keep an eye out for Eyes of Naxxramas. If such a shadow ghost appears, kill it with top priority – otherwise you will have half the instance as an opponent shortly afterwards. The Baroness repeatedly deals shadow damage to the tank with her wail. She also applies a silence effect to all nearby players that lasts for 6 seconds. Her Banshee Curse reduces the hit chance of all nearby players for 12 seconds. Try to remove this curse if you can. After the Baroness’s death, the door opens into a small chamber. Kill the Thuzadinacolytes that linger there to destroy a Crystal of Ash’ari. After the Baroness’s death, the door opens into a small chamber. Kill the Thuzadinacolytes that linger there to destroy a Crystal of Ash’ari. After the Baroness’s death, the door opens into a small chamber. Kill the Thuzadinacolytes that linger there to destroy a Crystal of Ash’ari.
Maleki the Pale (2)
Continue northwest until you see the next ziggurat on the right. There is Maleki the Pale, guarded by three summoners and skeleton minions. Kill the summoners and then deal with Maleki. The Mage afflicts the tank with Frostbolts and occasionally freezes a randomly selected player in an Ice Tomb. He also has invisible frost armor that gives melee attacks a chance to slow the attacker’s movement and attack speed for 5 seconds. When his life points are near the end, he uses a leech to steal life from his target. If possible, interrupt this spell. Then destroy the Acolytes in the Ziggurat to destroy the second Crystal of Sh’ari as well.
Nerub’enkan (3)
Now you have to take a small detour. Continue south through the portcullis – be careful, this is a trap. Once the portcullises have lowered, small insects will appear en masse and attack you. Only enter the gate as a closed group and fight the small animals with area damage. Then you stand in front of the last ziggurat, in front of which the neruber Nerub’enkan has settled. The crypt beast will repeatedly send crypt scarabs at you and summon undead scarabs. You eliminate the undead scarabs by the way. Again and again the boss spins a randomly selected player into enclosing webs. The cocoon can still attack and cast spells, however, the time between his attacks is increased by 100 percent and he cannot move. In addition, the spider creature occasionally pierces the tank’s armor and reduces its armor value by half, causing it to take high damage. After killing Nerub’enkan, deal with the acolytes inside the ziggurate. Now that you have destroyed all three crystals, you can later enter the slaughterhouse.
Magistrate Barthilas (4)
Now head back north through the portcullis until you see Magistrate Barthilas in front of you. Your tank pulls the undead against a wall so he doesn’t get pushed into other groups of enemies by his Mighty Dash. During the encounter, the magistrate buffs with a rage effect that stacks up to 25 times. Over time, the damage on the tank and the speed of the Magistrate’s attacks will increase. In addition, Barthilas repeatedly drains life from the tank and transfers it to himself. All caster classes are wary of his Beating Pack ability, which interrupts cast spells for four seconds. This attack can be dangerous, especially for healers.
Ramstein the Devourer (5)
After you breathed the undead out of the magistrate, you enter the butcher’s place and kill one monstrosity after the other. Don’t attract too many enemies at once, because the Gall Spitters will summon several small slimes that will attack you. Once you have eliminated all the monstrosities, Ramstein will appear from the slaughterhouse and attack you. The beast repeatedly deals splash damage to the entire party. With his knockout, he knocks back the tank and stuns him for four seconds. Dealers of damage watch for these knockouts so they don’t exceed the tank’s threat while stunned.
Baron Aurius Rivendare(6)
After Ramstein’s death, masses of small skeletons rush towards your group, which you eliminate with area damage. Then you kill 5 skeleton sentries that appear from the slaughterhouse. Except for the tank, nobody should stand in front of the guards, because they have rift attacks. Then enter the slaughterhouse and attack the baron. As soon as you enter his room, you will notice his Unholy Aura, which periodically deals Shadow damage to all players within range. The ranged fighters and healers can stand on the piles of skeletons at the edge of the room to avoid the aura. He repeatedly throws shadow bolts at the tank and weakens it with a fatal blow. Melee fighters stay behind the Baron only to avoid getting caught by his split. Periodically, he summons six skeletons that attack you for 12 seconds. After 12 seconds, they die and heal Rivendare. Kill the skeletons with area spells so they can’t heal their master.
