World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the Silver Forest was heavily reworked. This also applies to the Shadowfang Castle instance, which is available in both normal and heroic mode. In our guide to Shadowfang Castle, we show you which bosses await you in the normal version for levels 18-22 and which fancy loot you can get hold of.
Preparation
The entrance to the castle is deep in the Silver Pine Forest, west of the Forsaken Front. Right in the entrance area of the instance, you will receive orders. Depending on how far you have progressed in the instance, you can be teleported to the back parts of the castle with the help of the ghostly groom after the unexpected death of the group. Tip: Here you can find the guide to Shadowfang Keep on heroic !
Baron Ashbury (1)
First make your way up through the groups of undead enemies until you discover a staircase down on the left. Follow the stairs and face Baron Ashbury. Ashbury periodically chokes the entire group, reducing your life energy to 1 point. Your healer doesn’t have to compensate for the damage alone, however, as the Baron’s “Stay of Execution” heals the entire party by 50% of their health.
Capability | Effect |
suffocate | Deals Shadow damage to the whole party every second. |
stay of execution | Heals the entire party for 50 percent of their health. |
Heal rotting flesh | Ashbury heals himself for 10 percent of his health. |
pain and suffering | Deals increasing Shadow damage every second. |
Baron Silberlein (2)
After killing Ashbury, Deathstalker Commander Belmont will appear and unlock the courtyard door at the top. There you will have to deal with some zombies, ghosts and monstrosities. Kill them and continue your way across the yard to the side entrance into the house. After more ghost groups you face the next boss. Baron Silberlein casts a magical debuff on the party that reduces healing received by those affected by 50 percent. Remove this effect as quickly as you can, because Silberlein gets powerful support. At 70 and 30 percent life energy, he summons a worgen spirit to beat you. Your tank must bind the additional enemies immediately. In addition, three werewolf spirits appear at 30 percent, nibbling on your tank.
Commander Greenvale (3)
Now follow the stairs to the upper part of the castle. On your way up, stay to the left until you reach the room where Commander Greental is with his soldiers. Eliminate the soldiers and then attack Green Valley. The Commander afflicts the tank with Malicious Strikes, which build a charge of Unholy Might on Vale with each strike. Upon reaching three charges, Gruntal unleashes that power with the Sneaky Shield. This spell deals damage in a cone-shaped area in front of the boss – the tank therefore turns him away from the group. Since the commander doesn’t move from the sneaky shield while casting the spell, the tank also runs out of the beam. In addition, the entire group has to adjust its position again and again, because the commander desecrate the ground beneath him from time to time.
Lord Walden (4)
You reach the next section of the instance via the outer walls. Caution is advised here: Gargoyles are on the walls, which you cannot attack at first. If you get too close to them, they will wake up and attack you. Then follow the stairs to a large circular room where Lord Walden is wandering and experimenting with his vials. Walden throws a Frost Mixture at a random player who you dodge. So that not all group members have to dodge at the same time, keep your distance from your fellow players at least four meters. In addition, the lord repeatedly conjures up shards of ice, which he lets fall to the ground. Move out of the shard rain to relieve the healer.
Lord Godfrey (5)
Follow the stairs to a room with a locked door. Approach the door until Deathstalker Commander Belmot appears to open it. Free the room behind from monstrosities and haunts. The tank will attack Lord Godfrey and lure him down the stairs to the middle of the room. Again and again, the lord summons three ghouls to eliminate your damage dealers. Godfrey blasts a random player with a cursed bullet that deals increasing Shadow damage over time. Escape affected players if possible. His most impressive ability is Pistol Barrage. He targets a player and fires a full magazine of bullets in their direction. All players immediately leave the danger zone – including the tank.
