WoW Guide Level guide overview for beginners

Are you new to World of Warcraft and don’t know where to start or how to proceed? No problem, we have the answers to the most important questions. Starting with the choice of character class, through the way from the starting area to Northrend, to the right armor for Lich King Slayer.

Step 1: Class selection

If you’re logging into WoW for the time, you’ll first have to dig deep and answer an important question of faith: Horde or Alliance?

The answer to this question decides the further life of your hero. After all, you can only travel the world together with players of your own faction, trade directly or talk via text chat. More importantly, the choice of playable races is determined by this decision.

The allied races are humans, night elves, draenei, gnomes and dwarves. For those who prefer to play on the side of the Horde, there are Blood Elves, Orcs, Trolls, Undead and Tauren. Up to this point, the choice is more a matter of personal taste or circle of friends. The question is much more exciting: “Which of the ten selectable classes suits me?”

Do you dislike playing all by yourself and want to have a constant companion by your side?

Then we can highly recommend the two classes hunter and warlock. While the hunter is accompanied by a wild animal of your choice, which you’ll first have to tame, the sorcerer will gradually learn from his teachers how to control various demons, which will then support you on your way.

Do you like sneaking through the world to achieve your objectives?

Both rogues and druids are perfect for that. Thanks to their abilities, both can not only cause a lot of damage, but also sneak invisibly through the world, thus avoiding dangers easily.

Step 2: The start

After you have chosen a class and a suitable race, given the new hero a suitable name and an appearance acceptable to you, you can enter the game with your hero. A video sequence will briefly introduce you to the background story of the chosen race, after which you’ll be at the start of a long adventure. The races usually have different starting areas, which prepare you – like in a tutorial – for what awaits you in the next zones during the first stages of the game.

You’ll find out what that is exactly in Step 5 of the “Getting to Level 70 Playing” guide. Exceptions: The Blood Elf and Draenei starting zones introduced with the first WoW expansion, The Burning Crusade. The guides for these two races can be found here:

Step 3: The right species on the way to level 80

Once you reach level ten, you can distribute your first talent point in your talent tree (keyboard shortcut “N”). Since each class has three talent trees that are more or less suitable for roaming the world of Azeroth on your own, we’ll give you a quick guide on what’s best for you when questing.

Hunter: Put your points into the Beast Mastery tree first. The easiest way to get ahead is to have your companion attack enemies first, and then calmly target them from a distance with your shotgun or bow. For this, it’s important that your helper can take a lot of punishment – bears, pigs or big cats are a good choice. Of course, the companion should also be able to hit well at the same time.

Warlock: Similar to the hunter, you’ll make leveling easier if you rely on your demons. Voidwalkers or Devil Guardians attract the attention of enemies, and you can comfortably deal damage from a distance.

Rogues: rogues best slash their way around with swords, fist weapons, or maces. Therefore, a combat specialization makes the most sense.

Druids: Druids fight their way through the world best with a savage combat skill. Being able to take on challenges as a bear or a cat, depending on your needs, is a great advantage. Unfortunately, these two animal forms are not available from the beginning. The first bear form is available in the course of a quest series, which you get from your teacher at level ten. The cat form is available from level 20, until then you will have to rely on your magical talents and the staff in your hand.

What is ?

is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
