In the basin in the highlands of Arathi, the Desecrators fight with the League of Arathor for the region’s resources. Starting at level 20, you can support your respective faction.
Overview
15 players per side fight for control of five strategic bases. The number of bases you control determines how quickly your score increases. As with Warsong Gulch, Zergen can be fun, but it’s unlikely to lead to victory. Coordination is key – plan a coordinated attack on enemy bases without neglecting your defense.
Requirements for victory
To achieve victory, your team first needs 1,600 points. The more territories you control, the faster your score grows. However, the allocation of points is not linear. That is, if you double the number of your bases, you will not get points twice as fast. If you own all five resource areas, you will earn 30 points per second. With four bases, the point gain is only about a tenth of that.
Battlefield setup and functions
The fighters of the League of Arathor start in the northwest, while the followers of the Defilers enter the battlefield in the southeast. There are five important strategic points in the Arathi Basin. The Stables and Yard are located directly in front of the two starting points and can be easily captured at the beginning. In the center is the Forge, arguably the most important point, since you can easily reach any of the other four resource points from here. Also to the south is the high altitude sawmill, while to the north is the mine at the bottom of the valley.
At each of the five points there is a flag that you can click on, just like the towers and graveyards in Alterac Valley. If you are undisturbed for eight seconds, you have attacked the point. After one minute, it then belongs to your faction. Defending a point works similarly. Flick the flag continuously for eight seconds, and the base is yours again.
At each of the five points, you can also get a buff that appears randomly. As already known from Warsong Gulch, these can be the speed boots, the recovery spell and the berserk spell. The former are rather worthless in Arathi Basin, while the other two can be quite helpful in certain situations.
