WoW: For some fans, Warcraft is more than a game – it’s pure passion!

Warcraft has millions of fans around the world. But for some of them, WoW is more than just a game. It is a passion for her – on and off the computer. This ranges from simple merchandise to entire shrines to tattoos that support your own faction. Or you spend thousands of euros to put original props in your living room.

The world of Azeroth is populated by countless NPCs and millions of players worldwide. They have made World of Warcraft one of the most successful games of all time over the past 15 years and continue to ensure that one cannot talk about great and influential computer games without mentioning World of Warcraft. Be it the famous South Park episode , one or the other song , many iconic commercials or Sheldor the Conqueror- WoW has a significant impact on society. But the most important thing about everyone’s favorite game is undoubtedly that it connects so many different people. And that across all borders. Nationalities, appearance, profession or social status play just as little a role as age or place of residence. We all share a love of WoW and that’s enough to create new friendships in virtual space. No wonder, since many players spend more time on Azeroth than with all other hobbies combined. For many, WoW is far more than just a game. It’s a hobby.

WoW as a way of life
As is usual with hobbies, some pursue it on the side, while others display a passion beyond the norm. Instead of playing when you feel like it and have the time, as is common with many games, appointments are made in WoW and the game is played in a structured way. In addition to raids where large groups gather, many have scheduled Mythic Plus nights or other activities with their guild and friends.
But even away from the computer, WoW has become much more than just a game for many players in recent years. A lot of people out there have developed a passion for Warcraft, similar to that found in film or series franchises. No wonder Blizzard’s Gear Storemust report permanently sold-out items.

Because WoW merchandise products are no longer reserved for absolute nerds. If you stroll carefully through the world, you will find the logos of the Alliance and Horde everywhere. Be it on cars, clothes or backpacks. We WoW fans are everywhere!
For some, a love of Warcraft gets under their skin, and more and more players are showing off their faction’s pride in various tattoos . Sometimes very obvious and sometimes more hidden. In any case, a commitment to our favorite virtual world that can hardly be denied. We don’t even want to start with more everyday objects such as mouse pads or other hardware in WoW design at this point.

We too are crazy about WoW
Of course, the whole thing also applies to us in the MMORE editorial team and at buffed.de. Our cupboards are full of figures of dwarves, elves or orcs. Banners of the Horde and Alliance hang on the walls and hardly a day goes by without the Lion of the Alliance or the Seal of the Horde shining on some of their clothes. Because for us, too, WoW is more than just a game. On the one hand, of course, because it’s our job alongside our hobby, but on the other hand, and above all, because we love the game. Because without the necessary passion for this game, we wouldn’t be able to do our job with the love we do it with. Even if it sounds like we complain a lot in one or the other buffedcast . But it is well known that people like to get upset about things that are close to their hearts.

Warcraft movie as a missed opportunity
Although WoW has millions of players around the world, it has never been able to compete with big franchises like Marvel, Game of Thrones or the like in terms of public attention. Of course, that was because the world of Azeroth was reserved for PC gamers only. Although we hate to admit it, films and series reach a much larger audience than pure games. So probably not a few fans were happy when Blizzard announced they were bringing Warcraft to the big screen. Finally, even the unworthy non-players should recognize how great the world of Azeroth is: diverse, rich in stories, in love with detail and populated with profound characters. The Lord of the Rings was the great role model for many fans, with the WoW world can easily keep up with the pure content.

However, as we all know by now, things turned out differently. The film didn’t flop directly, but it was only moderately successful outside of WoW fans and will not get a sequel as of today. This also prevented WoW from evoking the same feelings and passion in the masses out there that the game managed to bring to us.

Your passion for WoW
But how boring it would be if we only reported about our passion here. Or continue to rant about “the players” in general. Instead, we want to show you how passionate you are, our loyal readers at buffed.de. From various competitions, where you regularly amaze us with homemade cards , we know that there are a lot of people out there whose passion and love for WoW knows no bounds. We want to report on exactly such players. Be it the bank employee who is covered in WoW tattoos under his suit, the family who celebrates Winter Veil instead of Christmas, or the cosplayer who only goes out as Jaina or Sylvanas.

To start with, we would like to tell you about a couple who met in a rather unromantic way, but over the years have developed from the initial hobby of a single person into a passion that recently resulted in a not really everyday purchase. Because – as already mentioned – WoW merchandise is nothing special anymore and should be at home with most of them in one form or another. But if you just put a memento worth a Dacia Sandero in your apartment, you either have too much money, a waffle or a passion for WoW that goes beyond the usual level. In the following section you will learn more about the two.

Marco and Kia – gamer couple with a passion for WoW
Marco and Kia come from far away Switzerland, are in their mid-20s and have been traveling through Azeroth together for several years. It’s the classic story of how one brings the other to the game, turning one man’s hobby into a passion for both. In fact, it almost never happened. Because, as so often, Marco wanted to bring his girlfriend to WoW so that he could play with her. Anyone who has ever tried to bring WoW closer to someone knows how easily one overshoots the mark and causes displeasure rather than joy in the other person. So it was only then that Kia actually liked World of Warcraft (buy now) when she went off on her own and was able to focus on the story without feeling the pressure to finally hit the max level.

While the two remain very different types of players, they still play together regularly – be it or Battle for Azeroth. Marco is more of a gamer who spends his time mainly in the game, while Kia also likes to go to the couch, browse through the related books and then explain to her boyfriend why the boss has to knock XY down and what that means for the world of Azeroth and its inhabitants actually means.

But not only books keep Kia busy away from the game. She also lives out her fondness for all kinds of merchandise uninhibitedly. The wardrobe houses various WoW shirts and also the almost legendary Murloc onesie. Of course, there are also Collector’s Editions and the coveted WoW 15th Anniversary Edition in the cupboards. A WoW puzzle will soon be on the wall, showing the characters of the two in the Redridge Mountains. Kia is also primarily responsible for the recent acquisition of the two.

To arms, Stormwind soldiers!
After it became clear that the WoW film would not get a sequel, many of the props were known to have been auctioned off . As a huge fan of both the franchise and the film, Kia knew right away that they absolutely had to take one of the props home as a memento. However, she quickly realized that even small things add up to a few hundred dollars.

does, then do it right! So the savings stocking was plundered without further ado and the two bought one of the original film armor of a Stormwind soldier – including a sword and shield. Together with shipping and customs, this amounted to over 7,000 Swiss francs. A proud price for a priceless souvenir. The armor is currently still in the closet and was only taken out for a few photos. Kia’s friend Marco has to serve as a porter because it fits him almost perfectly – a born soldier of the Alliance.
By the way, the armor shouldn’t be the only thing. Frostmourne and a pair of Sentinel’s Glaives are to come for the future. They don’t match the armor, but maybe there will be suitable clothing for Kia at some point and we’ll see the two wander through the halls at conventions like BlizzCon or gamescom. Or maybe we’ll even see the two marry in matching Stormwind armor and garb? Wouldn’t be the first wedding in WoW style and the two are already engaged. You can find out more about Kia, Marco and their passion for WoW in the interview we did with them below.
