As part of World of Warcraft’s 14th anniversary celebrations from November 16-30, 2018, old world classic bosses like Lord Kazzak and Azuregos will once again roam the game world. We’ll show you what the original version of Azuregos and his Ahn’Qiraj quest offshoot, the Spirit of Azuregos, looked like in the following image gallery featuring a raid from 2005!
In World of Warcraft Classic, Azuregos was a world boss in Southeast Azshara. The blue dragon is a loyal servant of the Malygos aspect. As a blue dragon, he is very interested in magical artifacts and their protection, and for this reason he guarded the ancient night elf ruins of Eldarath in Azshara. Whenever Azuregos appeared in WoW Classic, he announced himself by shouting loudly in the zone chat. Then you had to be quick and gather people for a raid in the capital, because if the opposing faction “marked” the boss with attacks first, he was done for.
Also in Azshara, Gates of Ahn’Qiraj patch 1.09 introduced a spectral offshoot, the Spirit of Azuregos. In order to open the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj, players had to speak to Azuregos during the Scepter quest line. Since Azuregos would likely be killed within a few hours of spawning, this would have made completing the quest difficult, if not impossible. To avoid this, the spirit of Azuregos has been added to Southern Azshara. The spirit cannot be attacked or killed, does not drop loot, and is only for players who have completed the Scepter quest.
