WoW Classic: Unfairly banned – how broken is Blizzard’s system?

Again and again there are reports from players whose accounts were banned by the Blizzard developers out of nowhere. In many cases, support requests alone did not clarify the frustrating situation for those affected, but only posts in the WoW Reddit area, which caused bad public PR. A sad development…

We recently reported that a WoW Classic player was unfairly banned for buying a total of 76 Black Lotus for 12,000 gold. The story had a happy ending: after support requests didn’t resolve the issue, a public Reddit post raised enough dust to urge Blizzard officials to investigate again. This showed that the information provided by the player was correct and the ban was lifted.

The sad thing about the story: This is not an isolated case. A few hours ago, the player DoxyDoxxx published a Reddit post due to the case mentioned at the beginning , because he was also permanently banned after buying large amounts of Black Lotus. Since his ticket has not yet elicited the reaction he was hoping for, he is now also relying on the community platform.

Another Reddit user by the name of Captiain Obvious went even further yesterday and, as also affected, summarized various other cases in his post in which there were unjustified ban penalties from WoW Classic players, and if you all Skimming through these reports, two conclusions come to mind:

Finding No. 1: Blizzard’s (automated?!) ban system is obviously frustratingly unreliable.

Insight – No. 2: If you’ve been banned unfairly, the first step should always be to contact support and point out the error with as many helpful details as possible. However, that alone does not seem to lead to the goal all too often. It is more promising to also make the case public, for example in the WoW Reddit area. This causes bad PR, which Blizzard – in contrast to tickets, which unfortunately are often only answered with standard phrases – repeatedly causes Blizzard to investigate cases more closely.

The whole thing becomes even sadder when you consider that on many WoW Classic servers, numerous bot characters have been up to mischief for months without being banned, despite reports. Here I recommend the WillE channel,

Will those responsible at Blizzard bring the ban system into shape at some point, reduce the number of unjustified ban penalties to zero and throw the numerous bots from the open world and the dungeons? Unfortunately, I doubt it, but I’d be happy to be proven wrong. What do you all mean?

What is WoW Classic?

is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
