At level 60, Warlocks in Classic WoW can bind the powerful Doomguard and summon a Dreadsteed mount. Our short and crisp guide will take you by the hand and accompany you through the necessary quests.
In this part of our class quest series for max-level characters in WoW Classic, we’ll show you how to tame a Doomguard with your Warlock. You can also learn how to obtain the coveted Dreadsteed mount, which can only be summoned and ridden by Warlocks. We hope you enjoy completing the quests. May the power of demons be with you!
The Doomguard
The Doomguard is the last pet you can get for your Warlock. You must have reached level 60 for this. This powerful demon is made for high-level instances or for the occasional act of violence against your more annoying and weaker teammates. As with the other companions, there is a small questline that you must complete to make the wayward demon bend to your control. Once you have completed all the required quests, you will learn the Ritual of Doom spell , which will summon the Doomguard.
With the Blood of the Satyrs
In order to start this quest line, you must travel to the Blasted Lands. The NPC you’re supposed to meet there is called Daio the Battered . He’ll be waiting for you at the northern foothills in the lower part of the area. Look for him a little north above the Rotting Scar (coordinates: 34/50) – but be careful! This area is occasionally haunted by the demon Lord Kazzak and it’s really not good to eat cherries with him!
If you speak to Daio, you will receive the quest ” The Foundation of the Prison ” from him. You learn that you must first create a crystal prison in order to incarcerate your Doomguard. Daio thinks the blood of satyrs is perfect for this. You can get the required 15 blood flasks in the Dire Maul instance. There live the Wildhoof satyrs, whose lifeblood is perfect for imprisoning demons. So go to the Dire Maul instance with a group of 5 people. The satyrs you need can be found in the east wing. You can get your quest item in the instance from any Satyr belonging to the Wildhoof Kin.
Tears of Winterspring
After your successful hunt, you return to the Blasted Lands with 15 pieces of Satyr Blood in your luggage to tell Daio the Battered about your progress. He thinks the blood is great, but he’s still not satisfied. As a skilled demon expert, Daio knows that your Doomguard prison also requires an anti-magic crystal that can serve as a prison shell. This can be created from the venoms of the demons of Hederine, as the venom of this particular race of demons crystallizes by itself after some time. These crystals are also called the Tears of Hederine and Daio wants five of these.
So you have another little journey ahead of you so that you can complete the follow-up quest ” The Prison Shell” . This time it’s off to the icy area of Winterspring. At the very south of the zone is the Whispering Gorge, home to the demons of Hederine. You’ll find mana stalkers, slayers, and initiates there. Since the monsters are all elite creatures, you should proceed with caution and not just jump headlong into a pack of Hederine demons. While it’s possible to take down the creatures solo, it’s easier if you ask a friend for help.
Bringing the Demon Under Control
After collecting five Tears of Hederine, travel back to Daio the Battered in the Blasted Lands. Daio combines your satyr blood with the tears to create a glowing crystal prison, which you need for the quest ” Oppression “. Unfortunately, this prison has the same icon as your Soul Shards; so pay attention to which of your bags the item is in, so that you don’t have to panic search for it later in the heat of the moment. So now you are ready to enslave your very own Doomguard!
Search the area around the Rotting Scar for a Doomguard Commander. This is a level 61 elite creature. In order to suck him into your prepared demon prison, you must channel your glowing crystal prison onto him for a few seconds. It’s best to let your Voidwalker tank for you while channeling the prison spell with the crystal. After a few seconds, however, the Doomguard Commander will lose interest in your voidwalker and instead try to chew on you. Kill your voidwalker via sacrifice just before Doomguard reaches you, then you’ll be protected by the shield long enough to finish the sewers.
If you did everything right, you now own an incarcerated Doomguard. Now return to Daio one last time and tell him how successful you were. This will convince him that you are ready to learn true control of your newly acquired demon. The enthusiastic Daio therefore teaches you the ritual of damnation and rewards you with the fancy off-hand Tome of Sacrifice .
The Dreadsteed mount
As you may know, Warlocks are one of the only two classes available in WoW (buy now) Classic got their own class mounts (the other lucky one is the Paladin). Already at level 40 you could complete the unproblematic mini quest series around the sorcerer mount devil steed during your level phase. At level 60 you can now get another mount; we’re talking about the iconic Dread Steed, on which you gallop through the vastness of Azeroth at 100 percent riding speed.
Bottles full of blood
You will receive the starting quest for your diresteed from your trusted demon trainer. However, your teacher does not have the knowledge that you so desperately want, he only passes it on to Mor’zul Bloodbringer in the Burning Steppes. You can find him northwest in the area, to the left of the small lava lake (coordinates: 13/32). Mor’zul is happy to share his knowledge with you. The first quest you get from him is called ” Boiling Blood “.
As is often the case in your life as a sorcerer, you are required to draw the blood of creatures. In this case, you need 30 portions of the blood of raging beasts, which Mor’zul wants to use to write down the summoning glyphs required for the Dreadsteed. You can obtain the blood from the owl beasts that are native to Winterspring. The blood has a slightly higher chance of dropping from level 56-59 Owlbeasts than from the weaker level 53-56 creatures, so if you kill the stronger monsters you should be able to collect it faster. Once you have the blood together, return to Mor’zul Bloodbringer. He asks you to give the blood to his fellow alchemist Gorzeeki Wildeyesbrings so that he can make ink from the blood. You can find the goblin Gorzeeki in the same building where you spoke to Mor’zul.
A conversation with a demon lord
Gorzeeki tells you that you will need, among other things, xorothian stardust for your dark yet targeted summoning ritual – and that is difficult to find in Azeroth. Luckily, the goblin knows where to get some: from the demon Lord Banehollow who lurks around Jaedenar, seat of the Shadow Council. In order to sneak through the shadow fortress as unnoticed as possible, you buy shadowy potions from Gorzeeki. In theory, you only need one as the potion lasts 20 minutes, but it’s best to bring an extra or two just to be safe. Just in case you die an unforeseen death and lose the effect…
So after you’ve acquired your shadowy potions, you head into Felwood. Take into account that you need to have 150 gold coins with you, because Lord Banehollow will charge you for the stardust. Jaedenar is relatively centrally located in the long stretched area (a bit south of Bloodvenom Falls). The entrance to Shadow Hold is near the corrupted moonwell. Of course, Lord Banehollow is waiting for you at the very end of the mini-dungeon. Thanks to Gorzeeki’s shadowy potions, however, you should be protected from unwanted enemy contacts on the way.
The Traitor’s Heart
Of course, Lord Banehollow isn’t about to give up his Xorothian stardust just like that. Instead, he sends you off to do his dirty work for him. Ulathek , one of Banehollow’s servants, has aroused his master’s envy. Therefore you shall confront him and bring his heart to Lord Banehollow. You can find Ulathek in a small side room to the east of the Shadow Hold. Kill him, collect his heart and return to your client. He is now surprisingly reasonable and tells you that another of his servants is willing to sell you the stardust. The servant calls himself Ur’danand luckily it’s very close by. Talk to him and buy the Xorothian Stardust from him for 150 gold pieces.
bell, candle and wheel
After that, return to Gorzeeki in the Burning Steppe to report your success. Unfortunately, that’s not all, because Gorzeeki will give you more tasks to complete for him:
The Bell of Dethmoora: In order for Gorzeeki to craft a Bell of Dethmoora for you, he needs ten Elixirs of Shadow Power. You can buy them from skilled alchemists. Three spirit mushrooms and one crystal vial are needed to make each elixir. The best places for herbalists to gather ghost mushrooms are the Hinterlands, Desolace and Alterac Valley. The recipe for the potion is sold by two alchemy merchants, Algernon (Undercity) and Maria Lumere (Stormwind).
The Altar Candle of Judgment: This special candle should protect you during your ritual. Of course, no ordinary candle will do, you need the best of the best. Gorzeeki can make you this candle if you bring him 35 black dragon scales. You can get these scales by skinning various black dragons. If you are lucky, they will also occasionally be dropped by dragons from this swarm. For example, you can visit the Blackwing camps and defeat Shadowwing, Maw of Flames, or Nefarian. Or try to get the scales of Gyth, the mount of Rend Blackhand, in Blackrock Spire. In the same instance live the Rageclaws, who also have black scales. You can also find black dragons with matching scales in the Burning Steppes.
The Wheel of Black Marsh: The Wheel of Black Marsh is used to control the dangerous energies of the summoning circle. To build it, Gorzeeki needs 6 Great Brilliant Shards and 25 pieces of Dark Iron Ore. The Great Brilliant Shards can be obtained from enchanters when disenchanting rare blue items that are at least item level 57. This corresponds to a required player level of 55, but occasionally the shards can be obtained from level 50+ items. Dark iron ore can be mined by miners in dark iron deposits. These are located in the Burning Steppes, Searing Gorge, and Alterac Valley. You can also find the ore in the Blackrock Depths and Molten Core.
Arcanite: After you bring Gorzeeki the ingredients for the bell, wheel, and candle, he will give you another task. As if all that wasn’t enough, he also needs three arcanite ingots. These can be made by alchemists through transmutation. The alchemist Pestlezugg sells the necessary alchemy recipe in Gadgetzan in Tanaris. Each arcanite ingot requires a thorium ingot and an arcane crystal as reagents. Keep in mind that transmutation has a two-day cooldown – so a single alchemist won’t be able to make all three ingots at once if you bring him the reagents. Thorium ore, which you can mine and smelt into thorium ingots, can be found in many different areas. If you find a rich thorium deposit, you can also get an arcane crystal from it if you are lucky.
If you don’t want to go through the trouble of collecting the reagents yourself, you can instead acquire them from another character or buy them from the auction house.
Goblin in
the jar At the same time as the three collecting quests, Gorzeeki gives you the “Goblin Delivery” task. You can do it while collecting the reagents for the other three quests. Gorzeeki informs you that he cannot use the Xorothian stardust you so painstakingly collected to dust the Summoning Parchment with for you. He lacks the necessary equipment for an alchemy lab. Therefore, he sends you to Scholomance. You will find this dungeon in the Western Plaguelands on Caer Darrow Island. As a companion, Gorzeeki gives you his personal assistant, the goblin J’eevee, who is locked in a jar. The Scholomance’s alchemy lab is located almost at the very end of the instance. You’ll have to work your way up to the sixth boss, the Lich Ras Frost Whisperer, before you reach it. Whether you clear the lab of enemies before freeing J’eevee from his glass prison is up to you. Either way, once you free him in the lab, he will put the stardust on your summoning parchment and you can go back to Gorzeeki.
An expensive shopping list
Riding without an instructor
In order to ride your Devil’s Steed or Dread Steed, you don’t have to buy the appropriate riding speed from the riding instructor first. The corresponding horses are considered spells and can therefore be used by any wizard with the appropriate level. Now you are finally ready for the final preparations for your Dreadsteed summoning ritual. Purchase J’eevee’s jar, the Xorothian glyphs, and the Black Lodestone from Gorzeeki. For these three items, the goblin will ask you for a total of 250 gold coins – so make sure you have enough money on you before you return to him one last time. Also, make as many Soul Shards as you can, as you’ll need them during the ritual.
Is all that done? Then travel to Feralas and enter the western Dire Maul (The Capital Gardens). It’s best to take a few friends with you and work together as a team. Since you’ll be performing your ritual in Immol’thar Prison, you’ll first need to take out the five pylons in the instance. To do this, you’ll have to kill the monsters guarding the magic pylons. You’ll also have to defeat the dungeon’s first boss, Tendris Usury Bark. When you reach Immol’thar’s prison, make short work of this boss as well and mentally prepare for the ritual. Here we go!
The Summoning Ritual – Goblin
To start the summoning ritual, activate J’eevee’s vessel in the center of the circle (roughly where Immol’thar was waiting for you). J’eevee will then place the Wheel of the Black March, the Altar Candle of Judgment Day, and the Bell of Dethmoora for you. These three items, by the way, will assist you in the upcoming battle by absorbing damage, restoring life and damaging enemy creatures. Unfortunately, the ritual nodes required for the ritual may fail from time to time and you’ll have to restart them. To do this, you use your Black Lodestone, which consumes one of your previously made Soul Shards. If all three ritual nodes are inactive at the same time, the ritual fails and you have to start over.
While J’eevee is busy setting up the ritual objects, you are attacked by enemies. Xorothian goblins and an occasional elite dreadguard will make your life difficult. Just make sure to activate the ritual nodes as quickly as possible and take out the groups of imps so you can focus on the dreadguards. Your Demon Slave and Banish abilities can come in handy here. In total, this phase of the ritual lasts about six minutes.
