Gold plays an extremely important role in WoW Classic, especially in the first few weeks. You need it for the normal and the fast mount, to buy skills from the teacher, for repairs or to buy things in the auction house that you cannot or do not want to farm. But where do you prefer to farm your gold in Classic?
Such a hero career in WoW (buy now) Classic is pretty expensive. We constantly have to invest gold in buff materials, repair costs, unlocking new skills, the first mount, the epic mount, class-specific acquisitions such as arrows, poisons and arcane powder, or crafting materials.
Even before the launch of WoW Classic, I gave you a few general tips on how you can make the most important purchases without a loan. The most important piece of advice for all future Scrooge McDucks is this: Be online a lot and actually farm during this time. But what are you actually farming? And where do you farm? Do you have favorite places? Where do you retreat to if you just want to farm in front of you? Which dungeon do you prefer when you’re out with friends? And so that this isn’t a one-sided number, I’ll tell you about my favorite farm locations below.
Farmer? No! Rogue and skinner!
Two deciding factors for potential farm spots are a) class and b) professions. Since I play a rogue and have mastered skinning and leatherworking throughout the level phase, you will not read about farm routes for Arcanite Crystals or Black Lotus below. Nor can I write from a mage’s point of view how easy it is to rake in tons of gold from the tombs in Zul’Farrak.
Many of my favorite farm places are more characterized by the fact that I can generate a good amount of additional income there by pickpocketing. For others, my stealth is an advantage. But don’t worry: many of my current favorite spots could also please non-villains. Just don’t expect promises like “70 gold an hour – Guaranteed” as you can find in the headlines of numerous Youtube videos – the proceeds are heavily dependent on drops.
No. 1 Favorite Farm Location: Tyr’s Hand
In the south-east of the Eastern Plaguelands lies the fortress of Tyr’s Hand, where many Scarlet fighters roam. They may be elite, but as a rogue they are easy to kill – especially if you use Kidney Punch and Kick to stop their attack spells and healing. In addition: Many of the opponents can be pulled well individually and they do not run away when they are badly injured. Thanks to my cannibalism racial ability and bandages, the regeneration phases are sufficiently short.
Per Tyr’s hand
Pickpocketing possible.
A decent amount of silver per mob (sometimes up to 25 silver per opponent through loot + pickpocketing).
Lots of healing potions and runecloth.
Regularly gray and green items, now and then something blue.
Tyr’s hand is near the chapel (flight point). You’re there quickly and can combine the Tyrs-Hand round well with the hunt for carrion larvae and carrion devourer for larval acid.
Contra Tyr’s hand
If you play carelessly, the elite opponents can become dangerous.
Partly a lot of competition.
Favorite Farming Location – No. 2: Blackrock Fortress
In the Burning Steppes I farmed probably the largest amount of gold for my epic mount. More precisely: In the Blackrock fortress or in the area in front of the fortress. In contrast to the opponents in Tyr’s hand, the orcs there are not elite and can therefore be beaten out of life much more quickly. I hardly have any regeneration times there. On the contrary, the first respawn outside is already there again as soon as I’ve cleaned up everything in the castle. So you can farm here non-stop until your pockets are full. I only had competition for a short time because every now and then smaller groups escorted the captured orc out of the fortress. With the dwarven hand cannonIncidentally, my only world epic in Classic dropped here. You can also farm the recipe for rage potions here, which brings some gold pieces in the auction house.
Per Blackrock stronghold
Pickpocketing possible.
Lots of healing potions and runecloth. Also some mana potions.
Regularly gray and green items, now and then something blue.
Three locations in and near the Stronghold where a chest can spawn.
Simple opponents, hardly any regeneration phases.
The recipe for Rage Potions.
Contra Blackrock Fortress
Long journey.
From time to time the escort quest interferes with farming.
Favorite Farm Location – No. 3 : Lower Blackrock Spire (Archmage’s Robe)
Of course, as a villain, I could spend hours sneaking through the Blackrock Depths and pulling the gold out of the dwarves’ pockets. With a pure raid skill without the talents “master of deception” and “camouflage” this is only limited fun. I do stealth runs into Lower Blackrock Spire from time to time. My target: a very specific Firebrand Pyromancer that’s easy to solo knock down and that will drop the Archmage’s Robe design if you’re lucky. This video shows exactly how this works:
Per Archmage’s Robe
Potentially a lot of gold in a short time.
Easy to farm.
Zero competition since dungeon.
Contra Archmage’s Robe
Moderate drop chance of the recipe.
The dungeon lockout ensures forced breaks.
If you die, you can even make a minus here.
Favorite Farming Location – No. 4 : Deadwind Pass
In fact, I’ve actually left the options mentioned above for a while lately because I needed a change of scenery. The new wallpaper: Deadwind Pass. More precisely: the caves at the Grosh’gok camp. Because there are ogre warlocks hanging around who can drop an enchantment recipe (+9 strength on bracers) with a very small chance. The recipe brings a lot of gold in the auction house, and you also collect a lot of runecloth and other stuff that can be sold well.
Per Deadwind Pass
Pickpocketing possible.
Lots of healing potions and runecloth. Also some mana potions.
Regularly gray and green items, now and then something blue.
Simple opponents, hardly any regeneration phases.
The recipe for strength on bracers.
At the bottom of the world => hardly any competition.
Contra Blackrock Fortress
Long journey.
The recipe has a very low drop chance.
#5 Favorite Farm Location: Stratholme Living
When the guild calls, I’m actually up for any high-level dungeon. Whether UBRS, Scholomance or Dire Maul: A lot of gold falls along the way everywhere. If I have the choice, my favorite place to go is Stratholme Living. The reason: the righteous orbs that my rogue needs for the crusader enchantment. These balls are worth their weight in gold in the auction house, which is why farming the dungeon is doubly worthwhile. Mainly because several balls often drop and hardly anyone in the group goes away empty-handed.
Per Stratholme Living
Pickpocketing possible.
Lots of loot, especially Righteous Orbs!
No competition because dungeon.
Contra Stratholme Living
The orbs cannot be farmed solo.
