WoW Classic: Black Lotus – The black gold of classic WoW

It only grows in a few zones in World of Classic and is hopelessly overfarmed: the Black Lotus. Here we have some information for you on where you can find the extremely rare, very expensive herb and thus increase your chances of success.

In , the Black Lotus is an extremely important alchemy ingredient that can be found in all five vials, such as the Vial of Supreme Power. The Vials grant a powerful two-hour buff that lasts even in the event of death, making it a must-have for ambitious raiders. Depending on the server, a Black Lotus can be sold in the auction house for around 75 to 100 gold and up, so with just under 15 of them, you can easily gather the 1,000 gold for the epic mount. The catch is that the Black Lotus is not only very rare, but also hopelessly overfarmed for the reasons mentioned above. This was already the case in 2005/2006 and has not changed in today’s . Below we have some information that will help you with lotus farming.

WoW Classic: Black Lotus – Spawn Info
In World of Warcraft, besides rare mobs, herbs and ores also have a so-called spawn timer. After an herb is picked or an ore deposit is mined, it takes a certain amount of time for it to reappear in the same place. If there are multiple spawn points in the same area where the herb or ore can spawn, this time can be multiplied depending on the number of spawn points, with randomness playing a part.

For the Black Lotus, a spawn time of about 45 to 80 minutes has been determined. For example, if the zone has 10 spawn points for the Black Lotus, in the best case scenario, the Black Lotus can reappear in the same spot 45 minutes after picking. If it only appears at the other 9 spawn points in the zone, you will have to wait 450 to 800 minutes. And if you’re unlucky, he won’t up at all for over 24 hours because Murphy messes up your spawn order.

WoW Classic: Black Lotus – Spawn Locations
The Black Lotus can spawn in the four classic endgame zones: Burning Steppes, Silithus, Winter’s Spring, and Eastern Plaguelands. Each of the four zones has about 10 spawn points, and only one Black Lotus can be active in each zone at a time. Thanks to years of experience, the exact spawn points are now well known.

WoW Classic: Black Lotus – Farming
Farming Black Lotus requires a lot of time and patience. There are a number of players who do the same and constantly make their rounds or scout the area from afar (hunters, shamans). Therefore, camping at a certain point has proven to be the best solution in terms of effort – even if you sometimes have to wait a long time for the herb to reappear.

So if you’re on PC anyway, start WoW Classic, stand at one of the points mentioned above and just wait for the next spawn. But be careful. Farming and camping is not for low level “twinks”! You should be at least level 56 to avoid attracting the attention of the sometimes crunchy elite mobs near the spawn points. If you do attract aggro anyway, you must be able to defeat a level 60 mob on your own.

The spawn point near the quest giver Lorax has proven to be a particularly good spawn point. The satyr stands in the ruins near Frost Whisperer’s Gulch in southern Winter’s Leap (see attached image gallery), and the Black Lotus regularly spawns right next to him. The downside is that Lorax is a quest-giver, which means players often show up there; also, the relatively safe, mob-free spawn location is popular with herbalists. However, if you keep a constant eye on the WoW Classic window, you have a very good chance of getting the Lotus.
