WoW Classic: Beetle by the fish – how difficult is the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj?

We have defeated all bosses in Ahn’Qiraj from and draw a conclusion: How difficult are C’Thun, the Twin Emperors and the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj really? Do you need clothes with natural resistance? Do raids with world buffs simply roll over all bosses? We’ll tell you!

In June, I dealt with the question of how difficult the Ahn’Qiraj raid temple in WoW Classic will be for the time . It was no surprise that the private server hardened progress guilds , despite a few bugs, would slice their way through “AQ40” in record time . More exciting was the question of how raids will fight, which mainly consist of players who have never faced C’Thun and Co. or who have ventured into WoW with Classic.

My guild fits into this loot scheme, and we were able to send all nine bosses of the temple onto the boards in our first real ID (“first real ID” because the gates of Ahn’Qiraj on Razorfen already opened on Tuesday evening and we spontaneously and by no means in best cast took the chance for a first taster visit, although our raid dates are actually spread over different days).

My conclusion after the first complete cleaning of the temple: AQ40 is even lighter than expected. This becomes clear with the first boss Skeram. He has so few health points that the fight lasts less than 90 seconds despite the illusions appearing three times. The greatest danger is in the players that have been taken over, but if this is controlled quickly and the Explosion is kicked regularly, the healers have almost nothing left to heal.

The Beetle trio and Sartura are similarly easy. Sure, the fights are chaotic and overly careless players can quickly bless their time. However, a Firewing from Blackwing Lair has significantly more wipe potential. It will be even easier with Fankriss afterwards. Pull => drive maximum damage => loot.

WoW Classic: The more difficult bosses in the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj
It gets a little more interesting from Huhuran onwards. Many a guild that simply wanted to knock down the flying beetle without natural resistance paid a high price in the form of numerous spirit healer visits. But with enough raid damage and healing, it’s definitely doable. The fight becomes really relaxed when you actually equip 15 people with sufficient natural resistance and thus take the danger away from the poison bolts. The fight only lasts a few seconds longer, but everyone lives for it in the end.

After Huhuran, the first major challenge awaits all raids that have caused many a wipe: the trash groups in front of the twin emperors. My guild got through the groups well, but there were always casualties, and my rogue had to throw in a health stone and healing potion on almost every pull to survive the fights. There are just nasty combinations like Thunder Clap and Meteor. In addition, the plague nibbles properly on the life points of those affected.

The twin emperors should then be the biggest challenge in WoW to date (buy now) display Classic. Warlocks have to get used to their new task, the optimal positioning of the tanks, healers and co. is decisive for the war and the medics have to keep their fellow players alive for seven, eight, nine minutes for the first time. There are also some bugs, such as aggro, which can make life difficult for raids. It took us half a dozen attempts across IDs to send the two twins to the ground.

After that we went to the secret final boss of AQ40: Viscidus. The slime is the only boss in the temple that requires a sufficient amount of nature resistance. If you want to make the fight noticeably easier, pack 30+ engineers and simply bomb away the little blobs with Goblin Pioneer explosive charge in the first round. Without enough engineers, the fight tends to last two or three rounds, which is extremely demanding for the healers and has made countless nature protection potions and elixirs of poison resistance necessary in our experiments. After five tries, the boss was finally down, although we couldn’t knock down Viscidus on the fourth try, only thanks to a bug.

And what about C’Thun and the gross trash in front of the Old God? Well, the latter groups are numerous and actually quite annoying. They quickly claim deaths, can even quickly mean a wipe if the pull fails, but are easily feasible with a concentrated approach. C’Thun itself was right on our first try. The pull is crucial here: If all players safely reach their position and then keep the distance of ten meters, we are only dealing with a simple “add fight”. And like all previous “add phases” in classic boss fights, the minions in C’Thun fall so quickly that they hardly pose a threat.

WoW Classic: The conclusion on the difficulty level of AQ40
The level of difficulty in the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj varies greatly, but even the most difficult challenges can be mastered quickly and easily by average raiders. AQ40 is not a sure-fire success, especially in the second half. Without nature resistance (and frost weapons) it’s over with Viscidus at the latest. For the Twin Emperors you need suitably equipped warlocks. And you will have to pack more consumable items than in “MC” or “BWL”.

It is a pity, however, that the Old God C’Thun in Classic is now losing part of its legendary status. Back then in vanilla, bugs and were also to blame for the fact that it could only be placed over the twin emperors 86 days after the world first kill , but the fact that it is now in the first attempt is sobering.

How were your first steps in the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj? Have all nine bosses already died? Which bully did you have the most problems with? Tell us in the comments!
