The nights of the Goblins are coming to Azeroth once again. Whoever kills the Headless Horseman this year can earn the familiar items. But there is also a new toy for trick-or-treaters! We have updated our guide for you.
During the Goblin Nights in WoW, those with a sweet tooth will get their money’s worth. From October 18 to the morning of November 1, you can get your hands on a lot of useful items and a lot of sweets. Those with a sweet tooth will find the treats in candy buckets in all of Azeroth’s inns, in the innkeepers’ baggies, in crudely wrapped gifts, as a reward for your heroic rescue of the villages, and even as loot after the battle against the terrible Headless Horseman.
You can find out what else you can earn in our guide to the Gloomy Nights in World of Warcraft. By the way: If you want to collect reputation effectively, you should secure the bonfire buff before Stormwind or Undercity – for two hours you will receive 10 percent more reputation.
WoW-Guide: Goblin nights – this is new in 2021
This year you can trade in your trick-or-treaters for a new toy:
- Reststone of the Headless Horseman
You can find the merchants in Elwynn Forest (Dorothea) or Undercity (Chub), the toy costs 150 trick-or-treaters.
WoW-Guide: Gloomy nights – these are the novelties in 2020
If you were hoping that the WoW developers might add a few new features to the game with the pre-patch of WoW Shadowlands, we’re sorry to disappoint you. As in 2019, the creepy event does not have much new to offer this year. Only the level squeeze has an effect, so that you can face the Headless Horseman with characters of level 10 to 50 this time. If you kill the rider, you’ll receive a loot-filled pumpkin as a reward. The pumpkin contains the rider’s reins with a small probability from level 45. You can also bag the following equipment, which has an item level of 82 (at level 50):
- The sinister slasher of the rider
- The terrifying hood of the rider
- The Rider’s Ring
- Seal of the ghoulish cheerfulness
- Ribbon of the frightened gourd
- Seal of the wicked witch
Last but not least, there is the buff Facilitated and Sinister Face, respectively, which grants you ten percent more experience points from enemies (quests are excluded) and ten percent more reputation points for two hours. The buff can be stacked with other comparable buffs (for example, Diplomacy).
WoW guide: Gloomy nights – these are the novelties in 2019
There’s not a lot of news in 2019’s Goblin Nights, except that for 450 pieces of trick-or-treat, you can store for armor protection for combat-proven heirlooms, which can be used to upgrade heirloom armor, trinkets, or shield hand items so that they scale with your heroes up to level 120. In addition, the item level of the Headless Horseman’s rings and plate helmet has been increased to item level 395.
You can still tackle the Headless Horseman event boss at low levels. However, this will not increase your chance to get The Reins of the Horseman. Blizzard has confirmed that you can only obtain the mount through the epic crates. The loot from the boss scales up to the maximum level to an item level of 395.
You can get the following equipment from the Headless Horseman or for the daily reward Loot Filled Pumpkin:
- The Rider’s Ring
- Seal of Ghoulish Happiness
- Ribbon of the frightened pumpkin
- Seal of the wicked witch
- The sinister slasher of the rider
- The frightening hood of the rider
WoW Guide: Dailies – Items from the merchants
You will receive a currency called “trick-or-treat” for the dailies in the event. If you are still missing masks or transformations, or if you want to grab some extra pets, you should not devour the candy, but save it. Before Stormwind and in the ruins of Lordaeron, four merchants await you, where you can store for missing masks, sweets like G.N.E.R.D.s and wands. The Alliance merchants are Stymie (32.50), Dorothea (32.50), Pippi (32.50), and Spanky (32.50) in Elwynn Forest.
WoW Guide: Gloomy Nights – the Headless Horseman
The once honorable Knight of the Silver Hand, Thomas Thomson, has been roaming the Scarlet Monastery as the Headless Horseman for several years. You can find his grave in the complex’s graveyard and visit him here during the nights of the Goblins. You can easily get to the right instance via the dungeon finder if you join the queue for the event boss. Once a day, you’ll be rewarded with the Loot Filled Pumpkin, which can contain a few special items like The Horseman’s Reins, The Horseman’s Sinister Slasher, or his Terrifying Hood.
The fight against the rider goes as follows: first you can attack the rider directly until he loses his head. Then the rider becomes immune to damage until his skull is recaptured. Watch out for the rider’s whirlwind attack so you don’t take damage unnecessarily, and attack the skull. Once the Headless Horseman has a head again, it has regenerated health and is throwing fireballs.
After you have dealt enough damage, the rider loses its skull again and becomes immune to damage. As before, attack the head again until it returns to the rider. This time, the rider summons pumpkins at regular intervals, which might annoy the healer. Kill the pumpkins with area damage, and then give the rider hell until he loses his head again. If you kill the skull, the rider will fall out of the saddle.
WoW Guide: Sleaze Nights in the Garrison with Pets & Toys
In 2015, a holiday is finally taking place in the garrison in Draenor. This is expressed in the fact that there are four new daily quests for the nights of the goblins, which you can pick up right now in your garrison. If you complete the dailies “The Bursting Scary Pumpkins”, “Rotten Fertilizer”, “Mutiny on the Bone Ship” and “Relief”, you will receive gold as well as Scary Supplies. These are the currency for garrison decorations, five of them: Ghoul Robe, Gloom Glow, Invitation to the Seer, Brewing Witch Brew, and Creepy Creeper. For example, the Gloom Glow will decorate your garrison with pumpkins. By the way, in the inventory of the event coordinator you can already see the decorations that you can earn during the Winter Veil Festival.
You do the quests just west of Socrethar’s Cliff in Shadowmoon Valley on the Forgotten Beach. The currency and decorations are tied to the account, so you can also do the dailies with Twinks to help your main character get the decorations. Captain Boneslayer, by the way, is aboard the first ship you see from the shore. If you can’t fly, you’ll find a rope on the side of the ship that will help you climb aboard.
- The Coin of Many Faces toy can be captured from the enemies you knock down for the new daily quests.
You can get the spectral spider sack toy from the Arachnis extra enemy that appears in the garrison when you use Creepy Crawlers. However, the toy can only be looted once a day. If Arachnis doesn’t have the toy, don’t loot any of his other items and you can loot him at the next spawn – until you get the toy. Also, there is a bug with autoloot – turn it off before looting Arachnis to be on the safe side. In the Horde garrison Arachnis appears between the mine and the herb garden, in the Alliance garrison it appears to the left of the mine.
- Three new pets appear in your garrison when Scary Creeper is used. These are a Spectral Spider, a Ghost Maggot, and a Scary Rat.
- You can get the new costume for Pepe, A Tiny Scarecrow Costume, and the corresponding achievement, A Scary Friend, when you find Pepe in your garrison’s graveyard.
WoW Guide: Breathing Nights – Quests
Gloomy nights quest: Beware of the overgrown tree
In the Legion Dalaran, speak to the Orc Duroc Ironpine in the Tavern “To the Magic Box” to start the quest. He will send you to Aria Griefheart for the Gloom Nights quest. So let’s go to Bradenbach! Ride to the coast, because there you will find the Witch of the Overgrown Tree at coordinates 35,56. She in turn will give you the daily quest “Under the Overgrown Tree”. You will be ported to a parallel world where you have to kill the elite enemy Aria Kummerherz. Beware: the ghost lady regularly casts fear effects and imposes a damaging debuff on you. It makes sense to interrupt her as often as possible. Once you have completed the quest, you will receive the witch’s belongings from the witch. The bag contains trick-or-treat items and, with luck, cosmetic hats from the witch’s three sisters.
Sleeping Beauty Quest: Candy for the Children
The orphans Jesper and Spuks are sick and therefore can’t go on the annual candy hunt themselves. That’s why you should get the sweets for them. Alliance players can accept the quest “Snooze Candy for Jesper!” and travel to the inns in Stormwind, Ironforge, and Darnassus, and use the emote to convince the innkeepers of your eagerness to celebrate. You will receive nougat from Stormwind, gum ball from Gnomeregan, peppermint candy from Ironforge and marzipan from Darnassus, which you will bring back to Jesper. The coordinates for the NPCs are as follows:
City | NPC | Coordinates | Emote |
Darnassus | innkeeper Saelienne | 67,15 | /dance |

Sloth Nights Quest: A Time to Celebrate
You will receive your first mission in one of your faction capitals from a feast NPC. You will be sent to the gates of Stormwind as an Alliance player for Celestine Thanksgiving. Outside Stormwind, you’ll be greeted by an entire party of revelers who will hand you a handful of daily quests.
A Time to Win (Daily Quest)
For the quest you don’t have to do more than use the bonfire in front of the grazer across the street.
Stink bombs away! (daily quest)
Accept the quest and talk to Gertrude Fenlow, who is standing right next to quest giver. You will then automatically travel to Undercity on a witch’s broom, where you can safely drop the bombs.
A Time to Lose (daily)
Extinguish the Willow Man in the courtyard of the Ruins of Lordaeron. To complete the quest, you must travel to Undercity. The willow man is standing right in the courtyard of the ruins. If he is not on fire, it is not a problem, the quest can still be completed.
Cleanup in Stormwind (daily)
The Horde have left all sorts of stink bombs in Stormwind. You can recognize them by the orange smoke. Use the arcane cleaner and place the target circle directly above the smoke cloud to complete the quest. As a Horde, you must go to Caller of Darkness Yanka in the Ruins of Lordaeron in Undercity. You will get the quest for this from a Forsaken citizen in Undercity.
A Time of Reconstruction (daily quest)
For the quest you don’t have to do much more than use the bonfire next to the grazer. Then click on the pile of ashes next to it to make your character smear his face with ashes. The quest is done.
Stink bombs away! (daily quest)
Accept the quest and talk to Crina Fenlow, who is standing right next to the quest giver. You will then automatically travel to Stormwind on a witch’s broom, where you can safely drop the bombs.
A Time of Vandalism (daily quest)
Extinguish the willow man outside Stormwind. To complete the quest, you must travel to Stormwind. The Willow Man stands just outside the gates of the city. If he is not on fire, it is not a problem, the quest can still be completed.
Clean up in Undercity (daily)
The Alliance have left all sorts of stink bombs in Lower Town. You can recognize them by the orange smoke. Use the Arcane Cleaner and place the target circle directly above the smoke cloud to complete the quest.
Gloomy Nights Quest: A Friend in Need (Alliance)
Gretchen Fenlow gives Alliance players the quest “A Friend in Need,” which leads them to Anson Hastings at the Golden Rose in the Stormwind Trade District; the tavern by the well. If you don’t see Hastings right away, you’ll have to be patient as the NPC turns into a spider for another part of the quest series. He gives you the quest “Missing Heirlooms,” for which you are to search a courier ship in Stormwind Harbor for the lost items. The ship is on the third pier from the top, if you look at the map.
The courier lies stupidly dead in the cabin. From his remains you will receive the task “Stolen Goods”. Now purple spiders crawl through half the city to the auction house in the trade district, where you talk to auctioneer Fitch. He sends you to the Dwarf District to the store Shadow Games, which you find at the canals. Hudson Barnes is complaining loudly, you should talk to him. For the quest “Precautions” you need to get items.
- For example, you can get Crystal Vial from the Herbalist Supply Trader or the Merchant.
- Strange dust can be obtained from the reagent merchant
- You can pick Blood Nettle from the fields in the outskirts of Stormwind to the north.
Afterwards return to Hudson Barnes. For “The Collector’s Agent” go to the catacombs of the cathedral; the entrance is at the back right when you enter the cathedral through the main entrance. There you will find Sanath Lim-yo, the aide of Archmage Xylem. He’s just finished off the thief and sends an enemy after you while he’s making a run for it. When you have defeated the enemy, you will receive the quest “What now?” from the artifact box. Now you have to decide: Do you take the box to Hudson Barnes or to Anson Hastings?
A little spoiler: As a reward, there is Eerie Crate , an eerie crate that hops after you.
Sleaze Night Quest: A Friend in Need (Horde)
Horde players receive the quest “A Friend in Need” from Candace Fenlow. To do this, you must go to the Broken Tusk Tavern in the Valley of Strength in Orgrimmar and talk to Edgar Siegesfroh, who is standing right next to Gamon. You’ll also receive the follow-up quest “Missing Heirlooms,” only you’ll have to look for them at the docks of Orgrimmar in a goblin ship. In the upper right cabin you will find the slain courier.
From his remains you will get the mission “Stolen Goods”. To do this, follow the spiders that crawl away to the auction house in the Valley of Strength to Auctioneer Drezmit. From him you will receive the mission “Compare Prices”, for which you will go to “Droffers and Son Salvages” in the alley to Dran Droffers. A Delian Sunshade is acting suspiciously, talk to him. For the follow-up quest “Precautions” you need to get some items.
- For example, you can get Crystal Vial from the Herbalist Supply Trader or the Merchant.
- Strange dust can be obtained from the reagent merchant
- You can pick blood nettles in the Valley of Wisdom
Go back to Delian Sunshade. He sends you to a hidden corner in the courtyard of the Ruins of Lordaeron to track down the thief and Sanath Lim-yo in the southeast. But you have made the calculation without Xylem’s assistant, who has already murdered the thief. Before he vanishes into thin air, he summons an enemy that you must defeat. Once that’s done, click the crate and you’ll be given the order “Now what?” Decide who you want to bring the crate to.
A small spoiler: As a reward, there is Uncanny Crate , a creepy crate that will hop after you.
Sleaze Night Quest: Burning Huts
You will only be sent to the Orphan Matrons (Masked Orphan Matron (Horde)/Costumed Orphan Matron (Alliance)) automatically if you have never completed the quests from them. However, they are still located in the villages outside the metropolises for all WoW heroes. Once you have arrived in one of these villages, you will learn about the Headless Horseman, who regularly tries to set the place on fire. As a hero of Azeroth, you can’t let this happen, of course, and are promoted to honorary member of the local fire watch in no time. However, before the real thing happens, you’ll have to test your skills as a new temporary firefighter on burning straw dolls (Fire Drill (Horde)/ Fire Watch Drill (Alliance)).
Once you have extinguished five fires, take your next mission from the Orphan Matron: Protect the village from the attacks of the Headless Horseman (Let the Fires Come). During the attack, fill your bucket regularly at the large water barrels to nip the flames in the bud. But if there are not enough helping hands on the spot, the whole settlement will soon be in flames. Never mind, you can repeat the quest if more faction members want to help extinguish the flames.
WoW Guide: Breathing Nights – Achievements
During the entire Schlotternachts holiday spectacle, success hunters in particular have a busy schedule. Because in order to be able to adorn yourself with the title “Night Terrors”, several challenges for the meta achievement “Shiver Your Name” must be mastered. You can find out how to master the individual achievements in the following section.
Trick or Treat
There is a candy bucket in every inn in Azeroth. Click on it to receive a quest and a handful of candy.
Out with it
Eat five of the candies you receive at the monastery after the death of the Headless Horseman until your hero gets sick.
Bring me the head of… Oh, wait a minute
Defeat the Headless Horseman in the graveyard at the Scarlet Monastery. You can visit the Headless Horseman as many times a day as you like via the Dungeon Finder, by the way.
Hero of the Serpent’s Night
Alliance players go to Kharanos, Gold Grove, or Azureguard to protect the village from the Headless Horseman’s attacks. Horde players, on the other hand, head to Blade’s Hill, Brill, or Falcon’s Place to mess up the villain’s run.
The Bright Smile
You can find the necessary toothpick for this achievement in a bag of gobblers that you get every hour from an innkeeper. You can also buy them for “trick-or-treat” from the merchant.
Rotten Schlottern (Alliance)
You must complete the following quests to earn this achievement:
- A Time to Win (Daily Quest).
- Stink Bombs Away! (daily quest)
- A Time to Lose (daily quest)
- Clean Up Stormwind (daily quest)
- Rotten Sloppiness (Horde)
You must complete the following quests to earn this achievement:
- A Time to Build (Daily Quest)
- Stink Bombs Away! (daily quest)
- A Time of Vandalism (daily quest)
- Clean up Lower Town (daily quest)
- G.N.E.R.D. Wrath
You can only get the G.N.E.R.D.S. Schlottern treats by taking handfuls of candy from the crudely wrapped gift or from the candy buckets in the inns. You can also buy them for “trick-or-treaters” from the merchant. Stock up on the candy and enter a battlefield invigorated by the G.N.E.R.D. sugar boost to earn at least 10 honorable victories. Keep in mind, however, that the buff only lasts until you yourself are killed once.
Headdress
Loot a total of twelve weighty jack-o’-lanterns from the Headless Horseman, or capture them from gobble bags or wrapped gifts. Then place one of these gourds on the head of a player of each race of Azeroth. The gender and class of your opponent does not matter.
The Masquerade
You will have to wear a total of seven different costumes during the nights of the masks. It’s best to ask your guild or friends if they can enchant you with the staves of transformation, which you can find in Schlotter bags and wrapped gifts. You can also buy them for “trick-or-treaters” from the merchant.
Sinister Vocation
The Creepy Pumpkin Pet and Creepy Helmet can be obtained from the Headless Horseman if you’re lucky. You can even find them in the innkeeper’s bag if you’re lucky. You can also buy them for “trick-or-treat” from the merchant.
Masked
Masks can only be found in baggies and crudely wrapped gifts. For this achievement it is enough to capture only one of the numerous headgear. You can also buy them for “trick-or-treat” from the merchant.
A mask for every occasion (not required for the meta achievement)
You’ll need to pull 24 masks out of the gift or bag for this achievement. This is a real challenge for achievement hunters, as you can only ask your innkeeper for “Trick or Treat” every hour, and the gift only comes as a reward once a day. You can also buy it from the merchant in exchange for trick-or-treaters.
