The Garrison is the biggest new feature in World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor. It is not only your fortress in the fight against the Iron Horde, but also your own home in which you build buildings and give followers a place to stay. But for everything to go smoothly, you need garrison resources – and not too scarce. You can find out where and how to find them here:
In the World of Warcraft garrison you have the opportunity to construct a variety of buildings. However, for this to be possible in the first place, you need the garrison resources (hereafter: GR) as materials. Nothing works in the garrison without these little friends, as you need them for every building and its expansion. In order to upgrade all garrison buildings to level 3, you need a total of around 12,000 resources. You also need the GR for the following activities:
To send followers on missions.
To buy “Seal of Forged Fate”.
For work orders in the War Workshop.
As currency in the trading post to buy crafting materials.
Where can I get garrison resources?
Garrison camp: In your garrison itself you will find a “garrison camp” in front of the entrance to your main building. The Garrison Camp generates 1 GR every 10 minutes, up to a maximum of 500 GR. This means you can collect 144 GR via the Garrison Camp every day. Once you’ve looted the garrison camp, it will disappear for an hour depending on when you last opened it.
Once the garrison camp is ready to be pillaged again, a silver treasure chest will appear on your map.
Trading post: In the trading post – another medium-sized building – you can not only exchange GR for job materials, but also get 30 GR for a work order every day via the work orders. You pay for the latter with crafting materials that are given to you every day and change every day. There are no followers for the trading post.
Lumber Mill: The lumber mill is a medium-sized building and constantly supplies you with garrison resources. The Lumber Mill allows you to fell trees anywhere in Draenor. The felled wood serves as a resource for work orders in the sawmill. You need 10 units of wood per work order, and you receive 20 GR for a completed work order. If you have a trailer for the sawmill, the value increases to 30 GR per work order. You can get 120 or 180 GR with the sawmill per day, since a work order, like in any building, takes four hours. You can find a trailer with the property “Evergreen” for the sawmill via the building itself, but at the earliest after upgrading to level 3!
Stables: Through the large stables building, you unlock daily quests that send you hunting monsters in Draenor. You can do a total of six of these quests per day; jEach of these quests beckons with 20 GR as a reward. So you can also collect 120 GR per day via the stables. There are no trailers for the stables.
Rare Enemies: Warlords of Draenor unleashes an incredible number of rare enemies. As in Mists of Pandaria, these come with rare items. More interesting, however, is the fact that each rare opponent always drops 15-20 GR as well. Incidentally, to plunder rare enemies, you no longer necessarily have to be in a group with other players who are beating the enemy at the same time.
Treasures of Draenor: Treasures are another new feature in Warlords of Draenor. They are hidden throughout Draenor’s zones. Some are easy to spot, others require a bit of brain power or just good eyesight. A “purple glow” or glitter usually helps you to identify one of these treasures; depending on the treasure, different loot awaits you: gold, toys, pets, equipment or GR. Some of these treasures contain up to 100 units of garrison resources.
Follower Missions: You always get missions for your followers, which provide you with GR if successful. You can see how many GR you get as a reward in the mission menu. At level 100 there are missions that bring 100 GR if successful. If you have a follower with you on such missions that has the “Recycling” property, it increases your received GR by 200% – so if you are successful, you get 300 GR in some cases. Incidentally, missions that reward you with GR (unlike all others) do not cost any garrison resources. Be patient if you have a follower mission with GR on offer but don’t have the right followers (level too low, wrong counter skills, etc.) – missions only disappear from the menu after a few days.
Daily Heroic Instance: Completing the first Heroic Instance of the day via the Dungeon Finder tool awards you 50 GR. Very simple!
Barracks & Tavern:Although neither the barracks nor the tavern provide you with GR directly, they can be useful in obtaining them. Both buildings have an influence on your follower missions, which you can use (as just mentioned) to sometimes collect GR. The Barracks increases your maximum number of followers by 5 and unlocks patrol missions that give extra experience for followers. With the barracks you can not only level up your followers faster, but also improve several followers at the same time. This in turn increases the likelihood that you will successfully complete missions with GR as a reward. In a level 2 tavern you can search for followers once a week and determine their characteristics. If you don’t have a follower with the “Recycling” property yet,
Outpost: The Smuggler’s Cave in the Spiers of Arak: If you choose Outpost: the Smuggler’s Cave in the Spiers of Arak, you can summon a trader every ten minutes who, with a bit of luck, will have a pendant for 400 gold and a bag with has up to 100 GR ready for you. It costs 10,000 gold to change the outpost to level 100 and the bag of GRs is rather rare, so think carefully about your investment!
Things to know about Garrison Resources:
If you haven’t built the Lumber Mill, Trading Post, or Stable, you’re likely to stumble a bit when collecting GR. The most reliable source then remains only the garrison camp. So it makes sense to build at least one of these buildings initially to have more than one source of GR. If you have collected enough resources, you can replace it with your desired building.
As for rare enemies and treasure, these are one-time affairs. Rare mobs grant you loot that includes GR only the first time; Treasures also disappear after looting. A little tip: Once you have completed all quests in an area and can show that you have achieved the respective meta success, Srikka (Horde) and Grakis (Alliance) in Ashran will sell you a treasure map for the respective zone (one per area, five maps in total). One click and all treasures within an area are marked on your map; Collected treasures then disappear from the map.
Alternatively, the WoW addon “HandyNotes” and “HandyNotes _DraenorTreasures” will help you. In addition to all treasures from Draenor, this addon also shows you all rare mobs on the map. Just like the in-game map, the treasure and rare mob icons will disappear from the map once you’ve defeated or looted them. Particularly good: HandyNotes shows you what kind of reward you will receive from a treasure and rare mob and thus enables targeted collection of GR. It’s also very handy for all Hordlers looking for treasures in Shadowmoon Valley, as there are no quests for this area and therefore no maps. Conversely, of course, the same applies to all Alliance members and the Frostfire Ridge. You can find both addons in our buffed database.
Blizzard is still tinkering with the game content in the first few weeks after the release of Warlords of Draenor. It is therefore quite possible that something will change in relation to the procurement of GR.
