WoW’s biggest Twitch streamer Asmongold was recently banned for RMT (Real Money Trading) and had his PvP achievements and rewards revoked. However, this is obviously a mistake.
Asmongold is by far the biggest WoW streamer on Twitch. However, we will probably not see any Classic or Shadowlands content from him in the near future. Because his account was banned until September 13, 2022. In an email from Blizzard, it says that his account is said to have advertised or actively participated in offering achievements and/or rewards in exchange for real money.
So Asmongold’s account was banned for RMT (Real Money Trading). In his latest video on YouTube he explains how it happened to the unjustified ban came. In fact, there is a suspicion that he has taken help from others for PvP achievements. However, the helpers are his friends who like to do it for free. And besides, he could also just get gold in WoW (buy now ) legally buy for the real money tokens …
Arbitrary penalties for PvP players – Blizzard algorithm error?
For reaching Gladiator rating his PvP experienced friends helped him to push the rating. This is perfectly legal as long as there is no real money involved. However, even though the email states that they are “thoroughly investigating the case and have been able to accurately deduce the facts,” it is obviously a bug in the algorithm of Blizzard’s ban system. Recently, several PvP players were wrongly banned for the same reason and have since been unbanned.
The RMT ban wave, which certainly caught many real-money traders, has among other things PvP players Maldiva met. He was – quite legally – helping friends achieve a higher PvP rating. Other well-known PvP players like Jellybeans and Whaazz were also banned for RMT. However, just like Maldiva, these players have been unbanned.
Meanwhile, this bug in the ban algorithm occurs at least once a year, but at least the penalties are quickly reversed. For the PvP players, who partly earn their living with it via Twitch streams and tournaments, this news is of course a shock at first. If what Asmongold says in his video is true, he should also be banned again and get back his PvP rewards like the Gladiator mount.
