#WorldofWarcraft loses important story writer

Another key member of the team is taking his hat. One of the most popular writers is no longer working for Blizzard.

There is no end to the long series of departures of important people at Blizzard. Now another important writer for World of Warcraft is gone and announced on Twitter that he had his last day. He was responsible for some of the best stories around World of Warcraft.

Who left? We’re talking about Robert Brooks. He was a “story developer” at Blizzard and wrote for all the major franchises – including Diablo, Overwatch, StarCraft and Warcraft.

On Twitter, he explains that last Friday was his last day at Blizzard. After almost 10 years, this marks the end of his work for the Blizzard universes.

What all did he write? Although the name may not immediately ring a bell to many WoW players, Robert Brooks is responsible for some of the best and most emotional stories in and around World of Warcraft as a writer. Among the works that included his texts were such as:

He was also responsible for the two audio dramas (radio plays) that appeared before and during the Legion expansion. For many fans, “The Tomb of Sargeras” and “A Thousand Years of War” are among the best Warcraft stories created over the years.

Why is he gone? Brooks did not give exact reasons. On Twitter, he simply stated that he had spent 10 years working alongside some of the “best designers, artists, and technical wizards in the universe.” He said he would be “forever grateful, both to his co-workers and to the Blizzard community” who have given him countless fond memories.

Some fans speculate about why Brooks left. It has been suggested that he was simply unhappy that his “definitive” treatise on the story of World of Warcraft, in the form of the Chronicles, was subsequently devalued and made to look “just” like the Titans. Brooks, however, already responded to this assumption on Twitter, explaining that there was no dispute between the staff:

Is this related to the scandal? At Blizzard, the fallout from the major sexism and discrimination scandal has been raging for several weeks. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that Brooks’ departure is related to this issue.

However, Brooks doesn’t see everything negatively. For example, he has hope for the future of Blizzard and believes that actual change is underway there right now. He writes:

The good news? I’m hopeful about Blizzard’s future. The talented people I’ve had the opportunity to work with on all the teams are incredible. They could spend the next 10 years being some of the best [von Blizzard] the company has ever had.

To support them, you should contact the folks at AbetterABK [Eine Gruppe aus Mitarbeitern, die sich für Verbesserungen einsetzt] support.

They do a really good job of making the right people nervous.

Currently, the series of departures at Blizzard seems to have no end. A few days ago, the executive producer of Overwatch 2 left.

What did you think of Robert Brooks’ work? Did you like the stories he told? Or were you never that interested?
