World of Warcraft: WTF? What actually became of the cosmetic items?

Even the smallest changes create great freedom – Blizzard announced the cosmetic items as a future game feature before WoD. Clearly, the fancy items would be the next step in mogging evolution! But so far there is no trace of the coveted items. Why, actually?

Whether it’s a decorative quiver, a mysterious poison vial, or an imposing tome, these little treasures add the finishing touch to any class. Even before the launch of Warlords of Draenor, the Californians announced class-specific accessories as a future feature. According to Blizzard, the purely cosmetic items will only visually complement the hero’s equipment and will have no influence on the other items or character stats. The special thing about the cosmetic items, however, is that they level up with the hero and gradually turn into impressive accessories.

The majority of players were as happy as a snow king and immediately jumped on the hype train. Our editors, too, have already imagined the greatest things for the future: New totem designs, fancy spurs for the hero’s boots, and roomy saddlebags. For a short time, nothing was impossible! However, a few months later came the bitter disillusionment – suddenly there was no talk of cosmetic items in the game. Well, the developers were honest in advance and warned their fans that they didn’t know exactly when these accessories would be implemented into the game. But the concept drawings showe

d the different stages of development of the items from level 10 to 100. The images were very promising and raised our anticipation!

Oh, never mind. Was it just a small feature? Are you guys kidding me? Are you serious when you say that! Countless players were disappointed. Hunters in particular have long wished for their quiver of arrows back. Admittedly, the animation where the hunter reaches into the void behind his back and virtually conjures up an arrow looks strange. Also, all hunters usually carry knives and daggers to cut up their prey. The same goes for the everyday tools of all other classes. With the announcement, Blizzard has once again reminded us how much we miss small details in the game.

In WoW: Legion, artifact weapons are taking their place. But the first images only show the fancy weapons, no small additions like quivers, poison vials or tomes. So are the small cosmetic items off the table for good? No, not necessarily. Most artifacts come into play as a duo, for example. Each one-handed gets a corresponding addition for the other hand. But will these items be visible? So far, the secondary hand items are usually only visible in combat or on demand. However, in the next add-on, the developers want to put a lot of work into the designs of the announced artifact weapons and make them visible to everyone. For example, the legendary bow Thas’dorah could come with a quiver that visually matches the weapon, but otherwise has no effect on the stats of the bow.

What do you think? Were you looking forward to the cosmetic items as well, or are the artifact weapons sufficient as a replacement?

What is ?

is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
