Warzone recently hosted the world championship. But of all things, the final was ruined by a bug in the game.
Santa Monica, California – Call of Duty holds official tournaments with really high prize money. Warzone now hosted the finals of the World Series for North America that several professional teams lost – due to game bugs. Activision refused to restart matches despite error codes through no fault of their own. Star players are devastated and have a wish for Warzone 2.
Warzone players get kicked out in $300,000 tournament – pros are devastated
This is the Warzone World Championship: Activision hosted the Call of Duty “World Series of Warzone” (WSOW) on September 7, 2022. This is a huge event where the best CoD players compete online for the first time on the new Warzone map for a total of $600,000 in prize money (also equivalent to 600,000 euros). The Trios final of North America alone is endowed with 300,000 dollars / euros. Unfortunately, the event went quite unsportsmanlike, even downright embarrassing.
This is how embarrassing the $300,000 final went: Playing under tournament conditions is really hard. Thousands of people are watching you live, and only those with nerves of steel can collect the big prize money. But even if your skill is flawless, everything can go wrong: Game errors and error codes ruined the final of the Warzone World Championship.
2 top teams fight with dev-errors in the final:
- Pro Aydan followed out right at the start of the round due to a game error. It was not his fault. The star player immediately asked organizer Activision to restart the Warzone match.
- Activision took a few minutes to deliberate, but then came to a decision: the match was not restarted, the trio was in the final with one man less.
- Pro ZLaner from OpTic also flew out in his final match. Again an error message was to blame, kicking him right out of Warzone. ZLaner got it in the middle of the round, again the team was then a duo instead of three.
If you’ve played Warzone yourself, you’ve surely made acquaintance with the nasty dev errors and corresponding error messages that you’re simply powerless against. Even in the new – Season 5 of Warzone, years after release, many things still go wrong.
This is how the tournament ended: Due to the game errors, both teams were unable to prevail in the finals. Aydan’s team ended up in 4th place in terms of points (51 kills). The trio from OpTic Zlaner even ended up in 12th place (44 kills). Skullface, Mayapoo and Hisoka took first place and $300,000 with 80 kills in all 5 rounds of the tournament.
Warzone 2 needs an important feature – CoD pros speak out after finals
Here’s what the pros have to say after the outing: Aydan pleaded for the restart right after the match start and his immediate disconnect. When Activision refused, he expressed himself visibly broken live in the stream: “I’m really very depressed. The money is rather unimportant, I care about my colleagues. I know it means a lot to them, and it hurts that I can’t be there in the last game“.
OpTic Zlaner is far less emotional, but has an important wish for Warzone 2:
He would like the successor to Warzone to have a reconnect function. Unfortunately, anyone who currently flies out of a round – for whatever reason – can’t get back. Such a reconnect function, however, other shooters have had for years.
Warzone 2 will still be released in 2022, leaks have narrowed down the release date to a month after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. However, a former CoD developer isn’t giving Warzone 2 a chance, ranting that the game will be dead after months anyway.
