Shortly before the release of FIFA 22 , EA Sports releases four new icons . Four legends return to the football field in Wayne Rooney , Iker Casillas , Robin van Persie and Cafu . We take a look at the four new icons for FIFA 22 and show you their ratings .
Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo, Fabio Cannavaro – what reads like our dream line-up in FIFA 06 is today’s iconic reality. Over 100 icons are now available to us in Ultimate Team. The legends in white are sacred, everyone wants a demigod like that for their own FUT team. In FIFA 22, too, they will run into us… and with reinforcements. EA Sports has released four new icons – and they have it all!
Wayne Rooney, Iker Casillas, Robin van Persie and Cafu join the Icons roster with four more big names. We take a look at the four confirmed icons and their ratings. Here we go!
FIFA 22 Icons – Wayne Rooney
February 12, 2011, Manchester Derby. The 78th minute is running, the game is 1:1. Wayne Rooney uses an overhead kick – and makes himself immortal. Ok, immortal doesn’t get any more. What the Englishman has pulled off in his career can hardly be put into words. Premier League, FA Cup and above all – the Champions League 2008. Together with Cristiano Ronaldo he formed the dream duo of the Premier League, with 253 goals he is by far the record goalscorer for the Red Devils.
Pace, dribbling, shooting – Wayne Rooney’s three icons (86 OVR, 88 OVR, 91 OVR) sum up his career perfectly. With his strong physique (89 at the Prime Icon) he can assert himself against many a defender. We expect to see Rooney often. Especially with Premier League builds, the duo Rooney and Ronaldo would have a certain charm.
FIFA 22 Icons – Iker Casillas
San Iker has achieved everything that can be achieved in football. World champion, European champion, Champions League winner. The Spanish goalkeeper legend was at Real Madrid for 25 years and was responsible for La Decima, among other things. In 2015 he moved to FC Porto, with whom he once became Portuguese champion. Casillas suffered a heart attack in early May 2019, after which the Spaniard was no longer used and finally ended his career in summer 2020.
It doesn’t surprise us at all that it becomes an icon. Casillas is one of the best goalkeepers in history, his career eclipses everything else. Its base (87 OVR) and mid icons (89 OVR) are impressive. His prime, however, lets him pass the greatest in history with a 92 rating. Only Yashin and Schmeichel (Moments) have better ratings. So the new Spanish signing won’t be cheap, but a little sweating won’t hurt.
FIFA 22 Icons – Robin van Persie
The Flying Dutchman! His goal against Spain in the group stage of the 2010 World Cup will always be remembered. Time stood still for a brief moment. The Dutch super striker also provided historic moments for Arsenal and Manchester United. Unfortunately, he was not able to win an international title until the end of his career in 2019.
Unfortunately, with an 84 pace, Van Persie is anything but fast. But he makes up for his weak pace with a strong 94 shot. His Icon’s overall ratings (87, 89 and 91) aren’t that great either. So the Dutchman remains something for football romantics, but Van Persie will not make it into the meta.
FIFA 22 Icons – Cafu
Cafu also cleared everything there was to win in terms of titles. Twice World Champion with Brazil (1994 & 2002) and Champions League winner 2007 with AC Milan. One of the best wingers of his generation returns to the pitch as a legend!
The Prime Icon from Cafu is impressive. There are certainly faster players than the Brazilian (92), but with his physique (86) and defensive strength (91), Cafu is right at the front. We expect to see the right winger in some FUT teams.
FIFA 22 – FUTs
What could be cooler than just relaxed gaming and doing some sofa sports on the side? In FIFA 22, the player is on the move fast, but without getting sore muscles. With the Ultimate Team Event cards, the collecting instinct is now also satisfied. However, the FUT Heroes keep creeping into my mind, so here are the best Ultimate Team Event cards that are definitely worth adding to your collection.
Heroes cards selected by EA for top qualities
Admittedly, the FUT heroes will cost quite a bit of coin, but it turns out that EA has once again brought some top-class players into the game when it comes to selection. As a collector and hunter, it’s an added attraction for FIFA gamers to now include their own favorite heroes in the portfolio and benefit from their individual skills. Both in the game and in team building, the FUTs will revolutionize the game once again.
EA SPORTS FC: FIFA GAME SERIES TO BE CONTINUED UNDER NEW NAME
Of course, the soccer simulation game series will not be discontinued completely. After FIFA 23, EA will relaunch the game under the name EA Sports FC and market it independently. Old FIFA hares should now become quite an ear, after all, the EA Sports Football Club used to be a part of the actual game for years. A lot of playing was rewarded, points could be collected and items, boosts or balls for the individual game modes could be unlocked.
In this context, there could also be a complete revolution of the classic game. There is a heated discussion in the FIFA community about whether the game, which is expected to be released in the fall of 2023, will be free-to-play. This option is said to be on the table for the game makers from EA, because: It seems that EA earns most of its money with the purchases of FIFA Points in the game mode Ultimate Team and not with the sale of the game itself.
