I wonder if anyone is in real trouble? Could be already! Yesterday, Tuesday evening, the first images from the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight expansion surfaced on the Internet! But so far Blizzard hasn’t let a deadline expire that would allow such a release. Apparently, this is a breach of the so-called “NDA” (non-disclosure agreement).

Currently, all creators and fans are waiting for the official launch of the alpha for the next WoW retail add-on, which is still scheduled for release in 2022. The mood is nervous, because the remaining testing period is obviously getting shorter by the week, should Blizzard want to keep their promise to start Dragonflight this year.

At the moment, most scene experts and insiders suspect that we will get big news from Blizzard about the Dragonflight Alpha launch this week. Any day now could be the time. But what about the images now?

THIS is what the alpha leak tells us

As mentioned above, two images from the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Alpha have been circulating on the Internet since yesterday. You can view one of them here:

The most striking detail is one that can be seen in both images and is already causing a lot of discussion and speculation on the net. For example, in the lower right corner of the redesigned Dragonflight interface, there are no longer just four pocket slots, but five, in addition to the normal backpack. This indicates that, for the first time in the history of World of Warcraft, Blizzard might introduce an expansion of the total number of bag slots and thus provide us with quite a few more inventory slots.

It is not yet clear how the fifth slot will work or whether its use is linked to certain conditions. Although it seems to be “unlocked” normally on both screenshots, a bag is not yet found in the slot on either character shown. The reasons for this couldn’t be more numerous, which is why we’ll refrain from further conjecture here. Some speculations that the fifth bag slot might be tied to the new race-class combination of the Callers of Dracthyr were dispelled at the latest after the release of the second image, which shows a Night Elf Huntress.

Some fans now suspect that Blizzard might have some ulterior motive and let us lug many more items around the landscape in Dragonflight, so we actually desperately need the extra space. What are your thoughts on this? Would you be happy about a fifth bag slot?

Beyond the pocket square, what stands out is the location of the Dracthyr character ‘Ddincer’ seen in the screenshot. Above the minimap we can read the place name “Valdrakken”, on the minimap itself we see a flying point, a quest giver, numerous teachers, a stable master, innkeepers, merchants, letterboxes and otherwise everything that belongs to a town. So this could well be the home of the Dracthyr. We also hadn’t seen the image section in this form before.

In contrast to the new, revised interface, with which Blizzard wants to start in Dragonflight. The interface rework is supposed to bring much more modern shapes, more free space and thus more clarity. However, we have already seen this for the first time during the expansion reveal in April of this year:

In the official footage shown there, there is another overlap with the newly revealed image: many of the Dracthyr’s abilities are already in the bars, but without a description, could point to all sorts of uses. Particularly exciting, however, is the symbol on the far left of the upper bar, which could very well indicate a flight form of the Dracthyr.

More news and revelations

Details about the content of Dragonflight are shared by Blizzard in the past days and weeks but also again and again officially. For about a month now, we’ve been shown glimpses of the new talent trees for various classes, the most recent being five days ago when the Talents for hunters and rogues the turn.

In addition, there was recently a detailed preview of the completely revamped professions feature, which is expected to get a much bigger, more central and better role than they ever had before in WoW. How well this will work, however, only time will tell.
