Why are players looking forward to “Classic Fresh”?

On August 26, 2019, the time finally came: After a long struggle the vanilla fans were allowed to set foot on the WoW Classic servers for the first time, fulfilling a long-cherished wish. In the months that followed, they had plenty of time to explore the original Azeroth, master the old raid instances, or play their way up the PvP ladder.

In the meantime, we have reached the TBC Classic era, are already looking forward to the WotLK Classic servers, which will surely come soon, and enjoy the option to visit our beloved Classic characters on the Classic era servers at any time. However, it seems to us that there are a lot of Warcraft fans who are waiting for one thing: fresh Classic servers. But why is that?

Old strengths, new strengths?!

On Reddit, the player Chaddsters recently justified his great anticipation for “Classic Fresh”. TBC Classic in particular is said to have made it clear to him what’s so great about classic WoW. (buy now ) is:

The busier worldIn TBC Classic there’s the paid character boost and flight mounts. The old areas are dead and also on Outland you hardly meet other players apart from the popular farm locations with whom you could quest together. In WoW Classic, it was quite different. The world felt much busier, even though players could spread out over two large continents.
A different kind of endgame: The high-level content of TBC Classic is very linear. In WoW Classic, there are more opportunities to lose yourself in the MMORPG and set your own goals or focus on what you enjoy the most.
Less Minmaxing: Chaddsters are hoping that all the minmaxing fans who were only after great logs and speedrun times in WoW Classic will now flock to Outland, and that things will be much more sedate and vanilla-like in Classic Fresh thanks to the “real fans”.

Whether the original WoW Classic will exist again, however, is questionable. After all Blizzard with the last poll Blizzard announced several changes that could have a big impact on the gameplay: more difficult raid and dungeon challenges, a world buff ban in the raids, more experience points when leveling, and so on.

And this can also be a reason to return to WoW Classic: Many players certainly want to know how the familiar vanilla content feels with all the new features. Some Warcraft fans even hope for so many adjustments that WoW Classic almost becomes a new game – just take the Wish List for “Classic Fresh” by Asmongold. There you will also find items like new end-game dungeons, expansion of professions or worthwhile open-world events.

What has to happen for me to play Classic Fresh?

I can only answer this question for myself, of course, and honestly, WoW Classic has amply satisfied my vanilla nostalgia cravings for now. The era servers stuck in Classic phase 6 currently have zero appeal to me, and even fresh WoW Classic servers starting unchanged in phase 1 wouldn’t be able to lure me off the couch. Especially since I don’t think Chaddsters wish regarding the minmaxing meta will work out. The players of 2021 are to a large extent just polarized that way. I see boosting, I see minmaxing, and I see lots of bots.

For me to fight my way through the leveling phase of WoW Classic again, Blizzard would have to implement so many changes that the whole thing wouldn’t feel like WoW Classic anymore – including vastly improved class balancing and item design, new end-game content, and the PvP system from TBC Classic. And since I don’t think Blizzard will invest that much effort, Classic Fresh is a non-issue for me.
