You may be familiar with the situation on WhatsApp: A frollege writes to you just before closing time, but you’re not sure whether it’s about the after-work beer or a last task. You can only find out if you read the message. But what if he has another task for you and sees that you’ve read the message?

This is exactly where our solutions come in. There are several options to be able to read messages without triggering the read receipt.

Solution 1: Disable read receipt

The easiest way is to turn off the read receipt. To do this, select the menu item “Account” in the WhatsApp settings and then the item “Privacy”. If you uncheck the box, you can read messages secretly without any problems.

The disadvantage of this solution is that you will no longer get a read receipt.

Solution 2: Read messages as pop-up

This walkthrough is a bit more difficult, because it can quickly happen that you accidentally open the chat window and that would betray you. To do this, simply turn on the pop-up notifications in the smartphone settings.

You can then read messages via the lock screen or as a notification at the top of the display.

Solution 3: The chat overview

With this trick, you may not be able to read the full message. Especially long messages are not fully displayed on the chat overview of WhatsApp. To be able to read a little more letters, hold the phone crosswise.

Solution 4: Smartwatch and fitness tracker

If you pair your phone with a smartwatch or fitness tracker that has a display, WhatsApp messages are usually displayed on it. However, reading the messages on the watch does not trigger the read receipt. The disadvantage: The messages are not always completely legible on the watch, especially longer texts are cut off.

Solution 5: The flight mode

For this solution, turn on the flight mode before you open WhatsApp. This way, you can read all messages silently and secretly. The trick: Without Internet, no read receipt can be sent. However, it will of course be sent as soon as you exit flight mode again.
